  1. Sounds great, is there a disco like last time?
  2. Just wanted to add that this is a great cause, I donated after my first baby but too hectic/exhausted after my second. Hope it all worked out!
  3. Balfes bikes as mentioned above or possibly Tommy's on Rye Lane in Peckham
  4. SE22 Piano school highly recommended - http://www.se22piano.co.uk
  5. I'm considering setting up a baby and toddler group locally in East Dulwich but want some advice on what parents are looking for... So I'm thinking I'd make it suitable for young babies to 3 yr olds, with a range of books and toys for free play and music playing, perhaps some sing-a-long. I plan to do this to raise money for local charities, so was thinking of charging min. ?3 (less for unemployed/single parents). Any ideas or feedback welcome as this is purely at the thought stage! THANK YOU
  6. My 6 yr old son absolutely loves their holiday club and this does sound an odd story. As Lorraine says there is a different theme every day and they range from under the sea to having a falconry expert in(!). They do games, tons of activities, arts and crafts, everything under the sun basically. Nimble Arts is quite simply wonderful and all I can advise is book early if you want holiday care for 4+ yr olds!
  7. Try Dulwich /Peckham /Camberwell pools. Not sure what age they go in alone with a teacher, I've a feeling it is 4+ for little groups without parents but ring or pop in. They're affordable and all nice pools, with decent instruction.
  8. The Nines I think has space for hire or Dish and the Spoon mentioned above is nice. Albrighton Centre on Dog Kennel Hill has numerous different rooms for hire and is a short walk from East Dulwich station.
  9. The schools do deep cleans. Mine also now at Dulwich Hamlets which all in all is very good.
  10. My son goes to St Anthony's which is a very good Catholic school. I've got friends whose kids went to Cabrini and they were generally positive. I'd say go with your instincts. Don't base it on religion, base it on how you feel about the school when you look around - are the children happy? Good balance of learning/fun/being allowed to grow up at their own pace without too much pressure or stress. Good luck in whatever you decide!
  11. Street dance is great in between if you don't want to stick to traditional boys activities - Eos Dance has some weekend classes and weekday (see numerous recommendations on this site). Our eldest did football with Little Kickers from 3 yrs but took him a while to start to enjoy it. He now does indoor climbing at Crystal Palace sports centre (they also have sessions at JAGS). He loves that and it's good for discipline/learning to listen as well as concentrating/focus and of course tiring him out ;) He also does Spanish and football after school now, with boys I wouldn't be afraid of too many activities or being pushy. Activities are always stimulating and as long as it's positive exertion why not!?!
  12. I'm not surprised it closed down but it was a nice place, nice food and staff. Agree the refurb resulted in a badly planned shop / eating area which was a shame. Hopefully it will be taken over by a similarly nice bunch of people. Would be great to have a Spanish tapas place a la Miss Tapas or Angels & Gypsies (but better) :)
  13. VERY exciting :) Roullier White have offered the original sign back if they get their target (which looks likely as they've got 20% within the first couple of days)...
  14. Hi everyone, I am hoping to cut down my hours in my office job and do some work for myself on a self-employed basis. I am therefore wondering if there is a market for help doing admin/PR/marketing - i.e. help with social media and advertising - to local small businesses and if so what might be of interest and how much per month would you think is reasonable to pay? Appreciate your thoughts - please PM so I don't miss any responses! Thanks and best wishes, East Dulwich Mummy
  15. Hi everyone, I am hoping to cut down my hours in my office job and do some work for myself on a self-employed basis, thereby having more time with my lovely children. I am therefore wondering if there is a market for someone to do PR/marketing - i.e. help with social media and advertising - to local small businesses and if so what might be of interest and how much per month would you think is reasonable to pay? Appreciate your thoughts - please PM so I don't miss any responses! All ideas very much appreciated :) Thanks and best wishes, East Dulwich Mummy
  16. I've had a few friends and neighbour use that and heard all good things
  17. My 6 yr old does the maths and has done since he was 4. I had same doubts but it's been great for discipline and solo working. I found booklets were too long so they've halved them and it's far easier to fit in daily now. I considered cancelling but a colleague of mine told me she did Kumon and private tuition and found the Kumon had helped, particularly in maths, as it made her do the work, whereas the tutor was a bit of an easy ride. My son has def benefited albeit I find it a chore!!
  18. Second vote for mother goose on upland :)
  19. Mother Goose wildlife garden is having a family event with cakes, apple bobbing and stories 12-4pm today. Wanley Road (turn off Greendale, bottom of Champion Hill). Sounds like fun :)
  20. Hi - do any childminders locally do after school care for St Anthony's? Needed from September. If you or someone you know of do please get in touch via PM. Must be someone local to East Dulwich as I do not drive. Thanks very much.
  21. I agree, terribly sad. Always so difficult especially with new vaccines - as is pointed out above, do you take the risk of a potentially fatal illness or risk suffering side effects? Personally, I'd rather wait and see with a vaccine. I did not take the whooping cough vaccine when pregnant (brand new recommendation) as who knows what the risks are yet. The doctor's receptionist gave me a very hard time but it is down to personal choice at the end of the day and for me there was not enough info out to know what to do, so I did not have it.
  22. After not thinking much of this nursery when my eldest son went there (from age 2-3 yrs a few years back) my 1 yr old is now here and how it has changed! The place is spotless, the new-ish manager Fayola is great - not over the top friendly but very professional and obviously knows what she is doing. The assistant manager Kelsey is lovely and very friendly, always has time to discuss anything and everything nursery/children related. The cook (the definite best point of this place, along with the garden) is still there after decades!! Dulcenia's food is legendary, my first son had seconds of everything, I am waiting for my youngest to follow suit :) They now do reading every day, the children have some structure but not too much, there are lots of activities such as painting, water play etc. and the garden is great, they use it rain or shine. I have a very happy baby here and would highly recommend.
