  1. Looks very good so far
  2. Despite bad reviews, Tessa Jowell centre (formerly Melbourne Grove practice) is reliable and good, i.e. you can get an appointment on the day if you ring up, new receptionists (not always good or friendly but in my experience that is commonplace anyway). Quality of doctors is excellent in my experience.
  3. Just got a book posted to me (from West London) on 29 August. Shockingly bad at the moment.
  4. Bookworm12 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thank you Esme for raising awareness. I am happy > to report the child is back safely with his > family. Thanks! (belatedly)
  5. Oskar and team did our garden revamp and did an AMAZING job - part of a low wall cracked (paintwork but looked unsightly) and he came back straight away, replastered (not just repainted) and put it right. Could not recommend more highly, hard to find guys like this.
  6. Hi - does anyone know about the new Maths tuition place opening where the big DIY shop used to be opposite The Plough pub, close to Dulwich Library on Lordship Lane? My youngest does Kumon but I am always looking for alternatives as that gets a bit boring! Thanks
  7. Most finish because [they are mainly based in schools] the schools do a deep clean and some teachers set up their classrooms just before term restarts...
  8. My sons go to this fantastic holiday club and they still have spaces next week, so thought I'd share - 15% discount :)
  9. My sons (the eldest now 9 has been going since he was just 4) absolutely love this club, so I thought I would give it another mention - quite a few parents I know haven't seemed to know what's on over the summer childcare-wise. Link for more info and booking is www.nimblearts.co.uk It runs from 8am-6.30pm (movie club from 5pm is optional for small extra fee). They have a breakfast bar with snacks, fruit and drinks in case you've had a manic morning or the kids are still peckish when dropped off. There is a different theme daily (and a permanent bouncy castle in situ!). The kids are split by age and the supervision is excellent in my experience - with many having teaching or TA experience. So far in the club my boys have held exotic animals, learned some magic and circus skills, done lots of arts and crafts (from drawing to making clay crocodiles!) and loads of fun games. It's a little more expensive than some others but they use high quality materials and have a lot more supervision from what I have seen (when compared with other clubs, who tend to hire students or people without any close experience working with children and understanding their needs - whatever their age!!). Highly highly recommended, like stepping into a Blue Peter set when I pick them up (oh and they never want to come home - always a good sign :) ).
  10. Silly question perhaps but how much have people been charged for tiling a bathroom? We are being quoted on the basis of square footage of tiles but friends have been charged a daily rate. Advice gratefully appreciated. Thanks
  11. Hi lovely people of East Dulwich. I am posting this as a mum of two, I cannot imagine having to worry about a place to live, food and essentials for a baby - and although my husband lost his job when I was heavily pregnant, thankfully we never struggled for money. I am trying to raise some money for my friend's daughter who is really struggling financially - having always been independent since her late teens, she and her partner are living back at her mum's until they can save for a new place of their own with their baby once she is born (due October). If anyone would kindly make a donation, small or large, I would be eternally grateful smiling smiley I will be giving her some help but obviously I have limits (along with my own young children). EVERY LITTLE WILL HELP so thank you in advance. [www.crowdfunder.co.uk]

  14. I'll have a look for old shoes, might have some. Bumping post as sounds a good cause! Nice to help people directly where possible.
  15. Sounds amazing! Wish this had been around when mine were younger...
  16. Sounds great - good for you! I would happily pop a link on my website East Dulwich Mummy if you like? All the best, I will have a read...
  17. almost at ?2,200! amazing - thanks to all who have donated x
  18. One of my oldest friends lives in Blackheath and her sons go to the Steiner school and love it, it's far "free-er" than most state primaries and kids are encouraged to be confident and independent in a different way...
  19. I am watching this with interest as I think this is a neglected idea - it's an age when kids are still too young to care for themselves all day and yet the holiday clubs don't take children over around 11/12 years. Definitely a gap in the holiday club market!
  20. Hope it is okay to post this here but a lovely mum of a gorgeous 5 yr old little girl that I know is fundraising for Macmillan and I wanted to share the link. She is in recovery from bowel cancer and her main aim is to give something back to those who helped but also to raise awareness, as many think mistakenly that cancer only affects older people. [www.justgiving.com] Please consider giving a pound or two if you can - every penny is appreciated!

  22. Upland / Crystal Palace / Landells prime car break in territory - saw a sign a few months back where someone was asking whoever had stolen stuff to return that with sentimental value. Heartbreaking when you consider it is prob sold for a few quid!
  23. paper cups and plates can be recycled
