Online learning in primary schools
Jellybeanz replied to swagstar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Update: our primary now going to offer interactive lessons using Google classrooms twice a day from what I can gather. Live registration twice daily has worked well, very good for the kids to see each other albeit briefly. -
safest masks to protect ourselves against covid??
Jellybeanz replied to TwinkleToes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Trusted PPE have a range of disposable and washable face masks. They also now stock rapid tests for antibodies if anyone is interested in those. People also need to remember distancing is key as is hand hygiene (easy to forget just as necessary when working from home). -

Going well so far - 45 members and growing! :) -
This is a great idea BUT they have a fundraiser going that has raised over ?50k called 'Buy a coffee for Kings' so you might want to focus on other smaller local good causes doing great work? Albrighton Community Centre Kingswood Estate LinkAge (formerly Help the Aged) Dulwich Helpline Westminster House Youth Club (based in Nunhead) All in desperate need of funds right now... I totally agree the NHS are amazing and should be supported but just wanted to flag there are already fundraisers that have raised huge amounts already for Kings.

We used Julian for some built in cupboard and shelving units in the living room and would highly recommend. Not cheap but nearly a decade on they look good as new so worth the investment!

What are the contact details please? Thanks. Neighbour puts a mound of bird food on the ground in their garden daily, so don't think it'll be a lasting solution but would love a temp reprieve over Christmas and not to see mice running around the kitchen and scratching/chewing behind our wardrobe (EEK).

I am very supportive of the Albrighton community centre fundraising BUT I do think we run the risk of jumping on one cause (especially with endorsement from Olivia Coleman and visit from Harriet Harman recently), so let's not forget other local fundraisers for food and other essentials, where people are really struggling owing to redundancies, being unable to work owing to covid etc. If you can, please make a donation to the Kingswood Estate foodbank either with physical donations or a few pounds: https://www.kingswoodestatetra.org/causes/ Many thanks

How many can i bubble with over Christmas Dinner?
Jellybeanz replied to roxie99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We personally won't be visiting family and I think unless you're home alone I would really be very cautious and restrict who you see and try and see them outdoors if you can. Indoor settings have been found to be the highest risk, so I think we all need to exercise some common sense, especially now the end is hopefully in sight with the vaccines being gradually rolled out... -
Online learning in primary schools
Jellybeanz replied to swagstar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's true, the local authority advised primary schools against it. I felt and feel like you - i.e. that if private schools can offer zoom lessons and enable kids to keep up with schoolwork then why not state primaries? The whole thing is absurd. In France they had a central system whereby all children could log in and do their work. Why can't England be as organised?! Government shambles. -

Single Mum reaching out to others in a crisis........

Speaking as someone who was once a very difficult teenager to loving parents (who also split, causing lots of bitterness and hurt on my part as well as on theirs) please know that she loves you dearly.. She prob won't admit it or even know how much for years to come but bear with it. She's hormonal and every teenager rebels and wants independence, which unfortunately often means pushing parent(s) away. Hope you get some support, reach out to friends and family - they will hopefully be understanding too xxx -
I have seen a few posts from parents of young children wondering about local primary schools, especially in a time when in person tours are not possible. I therefore wanted to say my children have both been extremely happy at St Anthony's Primary. Not as many people seem to know about it, as it is tucked away at the top of Barry Road near the library. It is a very nurturing school, where compassion and kindness are the key words and you will have to look hard to find a child who is not smiling. The teachers are lovely, as are the support staff, Headteacher and deputies. If some are put off by the fact that it is a Catholic school, I can assure you that all faiths are taught and different festivals celebrated. Difference is a positive thing and that plays out in the school - it is probably the most multicultural in the area by far, with children of many nationalities and different races. The balance between strong levels of teaching and fun and play is done well, with rewards and recognition for good behaviour, showing care and consideration for others and nice pieces of work. Children are encouraged to speak in class, so even the shyest are gently coaxed out of their shells as the years go on, which for me was a real positive (as a shy child I really suffered). All in all, it really is a lovely school and I cannot recommend it more highly for your child.

I would recommend getting boiler insurance (usually can find cover that includes home emergencies: plumbing, electrics and boiler), especially worthwhile over colder months and includes a boiler service for around ?15 p/m

Albrighton always need volunteers. Also Grove Adventure Playground (Loughborough Junction) help families with food parcels etc and LinkAge Southwark need telephone befrienders.

Our house also has a sloping floor in the front room. We have minor cracks I believe due to slight subsidence/tree outside the front but nothing major. If you are buying it then basically I would say someone else would buy it in due course. We got over it - my last company (I worked for a solicitor based in a house in East Dulwich) had badly sloping floors and tried to screed to rectify. It didn't work, cracked under the flooring and was worse than the original slope so I would just say live with it essentially. Good luck whatever you decide!

Kingsdale doesn't have a catchment area, it's a lottery system. We are in catchment for ED charter so that is still a choice for us if no Kent offers forthcoming. Thanks for the advice
