Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
Hickory replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, this is true. I suppose we just don't want to keep moving every few years - the stamp duty, legals, moving fees every time - eye watering. Not to mention emotionally never feeling settled. But yes we could have a family in a 2 bed -
Another rec for Dr Cliffes. I feel like I'm always there with one ailment or another but never made to feel like a hypochondriac.

We don't know what to do. Our lovely 1 bed, second floor flat has gone up by ?100k too, but we'd still only be able to afford a purchase price of ?440k. What kind of house is that going to get us? We don't yet have dependants bit might do in a few years. A.Sell now and join the 3 bed race - compromising on location? B.Wait another year or 2 - we don't need the space right now - but might be priced out altogether? C. Or enjoy our gorgeous flat and neighbourhood and hope that the frenzy and lack of supply calms down a bit? A dilemma had by many I'm sure. Head vs heart -

I'm genuinely frightened. This must be close to hyper inflation?! I heard an agent friend bragging about 3 bed houses in Nunhead climbing from ?450k to ?700k in 18 months. What kind of future will there be for couples on the first rung who need a family property soon but cant afford even an ex council house in zone 3? Do the home counties become super-suburbs and we all pi** our salaries up the wall on train fares instead? At what point do policy makers have to step in and make a London-specific controls? -
I did wonder how long it would be before somebody clicked on 'read all other posts by..' I'm not sure why you did, but yes, it's been a strange 12 months!

Hi Ishmael, I work in post production. Whilst I'm not offering to do it (I'm not an editor), I wanted to hopefully give advice. How have you calculated that it's 6-9 hours? Editing a 2 minute film can take an editor 2 days to do. What's the duration of the film? Most freelancers would charge around ?400 per day. You may find a very willing graduate, although most will be more experienced in digital editing. Alternatievely, try a small post house outside of London, e.g http://www.videoimageprod.co.uk/video_editing.htm Good luck!

I know, seems daft doesn't it. A few weeks ago my other half was threatened on the 197 bus by a guy with a knife (he said he looked "too funny looking"). The 999 operator took it very seriously, and said the police would intercept the bus. They never did. OH waited 25 mins on Waterloo Bridge for a car to arrive - nada. He went into Peckham police station to report it and the poor chap was so over-worked and said they wished they could do more but budget cuts had happened.... and on it goes. Anyway. I'm not here to bash the police. At least we have lots of nice, selfless people in the area too!

As I said, I did report it to the police as soon as I was safely home. There was no way I was getting my phone out on a dark street in front of him. Here's what happened if you care to read on: The police operator 'promised' a team would be out within the hour. I waited until midnight. Nobody came. They then called me randomly at 11am the next morning saying "we're outside your front door" which really ticked me off as obviously I was at work by that point. They then failed to turn up for 2 further arranged appointments. When they finally came a few days later, they told me it was a public order offence. Had the suspect made physical contact, it would be something different. They said the Met have to be very selective about which crimes they follow up on due to diminishing budgets. I suggested that one of the shops may have CCTV, but the Met have passed a rule that CCTV will only be checked if there's a significant likelihood of credible evidence. A police sergeant has since left me a voicemail saying no other evidence has come to light (ie case closed). So yes, some guy threatened to rape me, whilst I hid in a stranger's garden and there is nobody who can investigate. That's why I'm hoping the tight ED community will keep an eye out for one another, and remain careful.

Hello Last week I walked up Forest Hill Road at around 9:45pm. A young guy on a bike trailed me all the way from the junction of Friern Road past Ryedale. First he was cat calling, then made more serious sexual threats which became more aggressive. Since there was not a soul around, and Ryedale was very dark, I was incredibly scared. Thank you to the couple who eventually took care of me..I was not convinced I'd make it home. I hate posting bad news on here, but just want to ensure that everyone stays safe! I did call 101 but the police have dropped the case as the crime is not deemed significant enough and they are suffering huge budget cuts. Usual common sense applies - take a torch, tell a family member where you're going if you're out at night..etc

Hi Renata What comfort are we meant to take from today for example, when those working in the City can't get there via Peckham Rye as trains are cancelled, and the 63 and 363 buses are taking 15-20 minutes to move between 2 stops. How are people meant to get to work? And why where this god awful roadworks approved for January when it's statistically most likely to snow None of it makes sense.
-
If we're having to suffer it for 8 weeks because you say it's to do with how reliant on the road we are, how does this make us feel better in any way?! The works are still there for all of us rush hour commuter, causing havoc. I write this from the 63 bus. I have a stopwatch on my phone and we have moved TWO stops in 19 minutes. I have missed any decent train from Peckham Rye. Really - 8 weeks of this?

*Be vigilant* Possible imposters in the area
Hickory replied to Hickory's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Wow I just returned to this post following Christmas week - oh my. I am not posting the photo. It is a matter for the police. It's not just about libel, but fair trial and preventing rebuttals on both sides. Remember when have-a-go- heros attacked a paediatrician in the late 1990s, after mistaking the term for 'paedophile'.. Nothing comes of trying to capture or accuse specific individuals. I was merely letting the forum know what happened to ensure members of our community keep an eye our for one another and ask for ID for workmen. -

I'm not going to post the photo. It might attract trouble, not the libellous kind. The message is simply, be wary and ask for ID of any maintenance folk. -

I live near Dunstans Rd in East Dulwich, but it goes for anyone living around here, no matter the street. Luckily we have good security measures and good neighbours AND I did take a photo of the bloke! But I echo the other recommendations of having anything valuable out of sight. -
Hi all Don't want to unnecessarily scare people, however I thought I should share my experiences this week. Whilst at home during the week (I'm usually at work) a man came up to my bay window and stared in. I confronted him in the street and he said he was from Virgin to 'check the cables', but was so incredibly rude to me and walked off. Yesterday evening the same thing happened. Different person, but faces up against the window, having walked all over the front garden. This bloke was incredibly rude and abusive so I called the non-emergency police as well as Virgin, who said no installation teams were expected in the area. There's a small chance it may well have truly been Virgin workmen (albeit who lack basic human skills). However please, please be vigilant. Real Virgin installation engineers should be wearing a full uniform, have a Virgin van nearby and carry ID, which you should always ask for. The police suspect these are have-a-go imposters, trying to see who is away for Christmas. Lucky that we are not. Similarly, if you see anyone hanging around your street that you don't recognise, might be worth mentioning to the neighbours or asking if they're having any work done. OK lecture over! :-)

Same here. Still waiting for numerous Christmas cards and parcels that were expected.
