Are you being charged to see your child's nativity play?
emc replied to emc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Does anyone know of any schools in the area that are charging to see the nativity play? thanks v much -
Hi there There's been a few things in the press over the last few days about parents being charged to see their childrens' nativity plays? Are you being charged and if so, how do you feel about it? A good thing as it raises money for the school or a bad thing as it's acting against the spirit of Christmas? Any responses greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi there a new report comes out on Monday from the charity Grandparent Plus that shows that nearly two thirds of grandparents with grandchildren under 16 are providing childcare, often to enable parents to work....to illustrate this I'm looking to film with a Grandparent carer on Sunday afternoon and am wondering if anyone out there has any non-camera shy Grandparents who might be willing to have a chat? It's not live (pre-recorded) and will take an hour, tops... I would use my own mum but she's been on screen talking about this twice! Pls PM me for more info thanks

Hello I expect some of you may have seen a story in today's papers about a restaurant in Croydon (Cosmos) that's charging parents ?3 a child to come into the restaurant even if they're just babies and not eating anything and not taking up a chair as sitting on mum or dad's knee etc. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2065284/Mother-charged-3-baby-Britains-largest-restaurant.html Just wondered if anyone out there knew of any other restaurants that employ a similar policy? Many thanks

How will you cope with the teachers' strike?
emc replied to emc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Coach Beth So does that mean that those classes whose teachers are on strike won't be allowed into school or will these children simply be put into classes where the teachers are working on that day? thanks -
Hello if anyone knows Tamla who posted on here about the Grandparents Club pls could you ask her if she could possibly PM me? thanks v much

Hello Sorry another TV request!...as I'm sure most of you know next Wednesday (30th Nov) is a day of national strikes, including teachers. I just wondered if there was anyone out there who has got an interesting story to tell in regard to how you are going to deal with your children not being in school on that day? Are any of you forming a 'Mum's army' (or Dad's Army!) and going into your child's school to help supervise the children so the school can remain open (this might not of course be possible as most Headteachers will be striking too) Or are the Grandparents helping out? If so, it would be great to get a group of these grandparents together to talk about how they are stepping in to help working mums and dads. Or perhaps some non-working mums are taking on working mums kids for the day? I'm interested in any great stories against the backdrop of the strike. Pls let me know if you have a great story to tell. Many thanks!

Hello I store all my photos on Picasa 3 (is that a web album, I don't know?!) but want to put them onto a USB stick in case my PC breaks down. How do I transfer the whole lot (around 2000 photos) in one go onto the stick rather than clicking and dragging each photo, one by one. I have tried to 'select all' in Picasa then pressed export but nothing seems to happen. Sorry, am so rubbish at this. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

Are rising petrol prices affecting you as a family?
emc posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello All Next Tues MPs will discuss Britain's rising fuel prices after 105,000 people signed an e-petition calling for a Westminster debate on it - over the next four years prices are set to top ?100 a tank. I work for a morning TV show and am looking to speak to a family who needs to use their car on a fairly regular basis (a school run that's far away, a long drive to work etc) for whom a rise in petrol prices could seriously affect their family finances. Pls PM for more info. thanks -
what's the best way via public transport? thanks

hello Right, this is going to sound a bit strange - I work on ITV Daybreak and next Wednesday we are featuring the biggest baby to be born in the UK in 20 years, weighing in at a whopping 13lb 11oz (with just a bit of gas and air!) So, to illustrate just how big baby Zachary is we wanted to compare him to a normal sized baby (around the 7.5 lb mark) born around the same time (7th Oct) So does anyone fancy coming onto the Daybreak sofa (on the Southbank) to show off their little cherub? There's nothing in it for you particularly apart from 15 mins of fame (well, a bit less) and getting to maybe see some famous faces milling around ITV. We will sort your transport for you...and if you know any friends or family from further afield than East D who might fancy it please let me know too. Thanks!

Hi, I found one of these around 6pm tonight in Nunhead....lots of dodgy looking teenagers around who I thought might grab it so took it home with me. PM me if it's yours, telling me where you left it. Hope the mum or dad reads this and this is the right place to post.

Went for my fourth time yesterday....fantastic Mortadella (sp?) and smelly Italian cheese type rustic toasted sandwich type thing and a lovely flat white - yum!
-
I do know the owner (Huey) and meant to post about this (saying that I did know the owner obviously) He's worked long and hard to get this open and it is fab (esp the wine deal), please go!

I went and had a very nice time - lovely bunch of people - no romance for me this time but I would definitely go again...would encourage others to aswell (especially any gorgeous men!)

Did some men actually go then?! I just imagined a room full or lovely women but no blokes as men are so rubbish at turning up at these things....

How did the lunch at The Mag go??? A success??

Yes, that's what I thought, it's just a bit confusing as he paid rent as well on that 35 per cent share I think and not sure if you get that taken off. Probably not. thanks

Thanks so much for all the replies. Have decided to scrap it as even in pristine condition it would only be worth around ?600 but have been offered around ?150 for scrap.

Can anyone help? My late father had a flat which was shared ownership. The Housing Association had a 35 per cent share of it and he owned 65 per cent of it. We are going to sell his flat and we obviously have to repay the 35 per cent which was not his, back to the housing association - my question is, is that 35 per cent based on what the flat was purchased for when he bought it, i.e. around 9 years ago or do we pay back 35 per cent of what it's worth now? Any info greatly appreciated. thanks

Bit boring I know but the advice on here about most things is invaluable. I have an x reg Citreon Xsara Picasso, with pretty beaten up bodywork (I'm not the world's best driver and have been too broke to get dents sorted) which has just failed its MOT - it needs around ?400 work on it (not major things, but quite a few of them, just wear and tear the garage says) My question is should I spend the money to get it through it's MOT then sell it (with dents and scrapes), get it through its MOT, get the dents sorted (have been quoted ?250 for this) then sell it, or just get rid of it for scrap? I am about to take possession of my late father's car so I will have a car I just suppose I'd like to know if a car of this age in this state would be worth more than around the ?650 I will need to spend on it or is it a pointless exercise and I should just get rid of it as it is (tax has just run out too) Any advice greatly appreciated.
