Hey all, thanks for the advice. I've now had my meeting and my company have actually been great in terms of taking into account my personal situation - my working hours have changed but not too much and they have accomodated me as much as possible so feeling very lucky to some of the others on my team...

Changing a single mums working hours - help!

thanks bibimax - now moved this to the lounge to encompass everyone but not sure how to get rid of this post in the family room???? -
Hi All My employers are currently attempting to change my working hours - I currently work 9.15-5.15 and they now want me to work various shifts of 9.30 to 6.30pm, 6.30am to 3.30pm or a 1-10pm shift over a revolving roster (I work in a TV newsroom hence it's 24 hours). As a single parent this makes an already difficult situation as regards childcare even more tricky - anyway, after having submitted two flexible working requests trying to accomodate their requests as best I can I have my meeting regarding it all today. Other working mums (married/with partner) have not had good results in their meetings which is not great for them but I feel, that as a single parent, my choices are even more limited than those who live with their partners - doing an early or late shift requires another adult in the house at either end of the day and on 9.30am to 6.30pm shift am stuffed too as who an earth will have my daughter till 7.3opm when I get home? Anyway, this is all very long and complicated but I wondered if anyone out there has experienced the same and what the outcome was or if there was anyone who works in employment law who can advise. I know there have been a few cases bought by single mothers who have had their working hours changed and have won tribunals on a discrimination (against single parent) basis. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi All My daughter fell in love with the very frou frou tutu style skirts in lovely pinks and blues that were being sold by 'The Good Fairy' at Goose Green Fair a couple of weeks ago - I promised her one for her birthday and took a card from the stall but there is no proper website as such and no info about how/where I can buy the skirts. I think whoever makes them is local - can anyone help? thanks

as rosieh said the age cut off is due to the readership age of the magazine in question and of course we want lovely pics of the men with their little ish children, not their adult children ...There must be some single dads in east d as i seem to know an increasing number of single mums but i guess not many want to shout about it a magazine...
-
meant to say should be looking to date and they don't have to live in east d - so if anyone has friends who live elsewhere..

Hello All I employed a nanny for a very short period Sept 09-July 10 and employed the services of a nanny payroll company to sort out my nanny's tax and NI. Towards the end of last year HMRC wrote to me to say that I owed a large amount in unpaid tax for my nanny. The confusion has arisen because my nanny payroll company had asked the revenue to split my nanny's tax code (I was in a nanny share) which they failed to do for the second tax year. Unfortunately, the revenue either ignored this or missed this and sent various tax codes to my nanny payroll company (who were acting as my agent) which my nanny payroll company ignored, assuming (they say) that they were mistakes. I now have a huge bill which I cannot pay and it's causing me sleepless nights. I have written to the revenue twice explaining what (I think) happened - that we asked for the tax codes to be split but they were only split for the first tax year, 9/10 but not 10/11 - all very long and complicated. Anyway, my question is do I have any redress with the payroll company? I employed them to provide a service for me - surely if they were receiving letters from the revenue with different codes they should have looked into it and told the Revenue of the mistake - isn't that what I was employing them to do? And do I have any redress with the revenue - I have the letters from the payroll compnay to the revenue requesting the split tax code etc, etc. I feel at a loss of what to do as I feel that revenue and payroll company are at fault but it will ultimately be me footing a bill for a mistake that's not my fault. Any advice, especially if you've been in this situation gratefully received. Thanks

Families for ITV for a ?300 per year retainer
emc replied to emc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No-one up for this?! thanks -
Hello All - I am looking for an 'ordinary' family to film with on a regular basis (well, around three times a year) By ordinary I mean mum, dad, two kids, on a normal income so probably struggling a little at the moment. This is for ITV Daybreak to come and film with whenever there's a budget, Government changes that could affect families etc...and we could pay you a ?300 per year retainer. We'd probably need about an hour of your time per visit. Please PM me for more info. Thanks

Oops - OK, so I just tried re-tuning with the help of manual and did all the going through the channels stuff, but no picture ever came up, just lines and fuzz then gets to the end but still saying 'no signal' - has it just given up the ghost or could a freeview box resurrect it? thanks v much
-
It was bought nearly five years ago, just a cheap portable for upstairs, says 'no signal' when i turn it on - am assuming this is due to switchover to HD. Is my TV now null and void or can I retune it/do something? thanks

Next week many families will find out if their children will get their first choice place at primary school. Are you worried that you might not get your first choice? Or are you a parent whose child didn't get their first choice last year and can talk about the impact (if any)? Daybreak would love to hear your stories please get in touch. Hello All I have to fill in a flexible working application thingie for work and HR are sending it via email as an attachment (word doc) which am downloading - thought i could then save it, rename it type straight into it then send back as an attachment. But once I open it there is no option to save (or that option is 'faded' if you know what I mean on the list of tasks on left handside of my screen) so I can't save it and when I try to type into it a message comes up 'This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked' - am tearing my hair out as this needs to be in by tomorrow. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks
