    Black flies - help!

i do, but its not a working one....could that be it? not sure if chimney is blocked up or not
  4. hi - since Tuesday this week I've had a lot of fat black flies buzzing around my house (some have a little bit of shiny green on their backs) It is absolutely disgusting. Am killing around 15 per evening (they are mostly around in the evenings when I turn my lights on?) Have invested in fly spray and fly paper and it's working fine in that it's killing them but I want to know where the source - I know everyone is going to say there's something rotting, a dead carcass somewhere but there's no smell in my house/have looked everywhere for rotting mouse/rat, whatever. Could there be something rotting outside, the flies are hatching there then entering my house? How do they get in? No windows are open. I have to say the numbers are decreasing but they are still THERE. Any help/advice v much appreciated. Actually I think they're coming in near my front window actually and I noticed that when I turned my heating off they seemed to decrease. thanks
  5. Just on Thursdays for an eight year old girl. You need to live local to the school otherwise I won't be able to get to you in time for 6.30pm! If anyone can help pls PM me. thanks
  6. I've been using Advocate on my cat for the last four months and have used the expensive vet prescribed spray all around the house that's supposed to last for 12 months. We're not getting bitten anymore and cat seems fine....but I can still see what I think is flea 'dirt' dropping off my cat (those black specks). Does this mean she still has fleas (although there's no evidence of them anywhere else)??? Driving me crazy!
  7. Sorry Pokertime - it's not just about youtube it's a tutorial on how to set up the controls - thankyou, thankyou!
  8. Thanks poker time will do that for YouTube - anyone any advice on getting filters set on searches made on google chrome?
  9. Hello I thought I'd sorted this but my daughter has been accessing inappropriate content on her Nexus tablet - she has google chrome on it and has been accessing inappropriate websites on searches through this as well as inappropriate stuff on you tube. I know there is stuff I can put in her google chrome to filter stuff/you tube stuff but I've sat here for an hour and cannot work out how to do it. If anyone can help and give me a step by step idiots guide on how to do this I'd be so grateful. I feel physically sick at some of the things she's seen. She's been looking at stuff secretly after I've put her to bed. Needless to say her tablet is confiscated until this is sorted. Thanks so much
  10. Hello All I'm on the lookout for a family to film with this afternoon - can anyone help? New research suggests that the average UK child has ten times as many toys as they need and that they only actually play with 10% of them. Good Morning Britain is looking to film with mums and dads who admit that their child/children have too many toys - but that they still feel under pressure to spend when it comes to birthdays. We'd need to do about an hours filming with you this afternoon or evening (at a time convenient to you) and then do a live interview with you tomorrow morning from your home(about two minutes) There would be fee of ?200 for this. Pls PM for more details.

    Mortgage question

Thanks all for the answers so far - I guess my biggest fear is not that they won't give me the extra ?10k - it's that they might take my existing mortgage off me when they know about my reduced income. Even though am paying regularly with no problems at all and have a low loan to value. Guess i should just ask a mortgage adviser. Cheers all
  12. Hi all just wondering if anyone can answer my query? I have been with the same mortgage provider for about five years now and I want to take some extra money out for home improvements (I have a lot of equity so a low LTV, which is great, know I'm lucky!) The only problem is that when I initially took out the mortgage my income was higher than it is now and allowed me to get the level of mortgage I needed. However now my income is lower so that if I applied for a new mortgage now I probably wouldn't get it (I've just moved products over the years and they've never asked me any questions about my income) Anyway, my question is that, in order to borrow the extra on my mortgage (about ?10k) I'm assuming that they will have to do all the income checks on me - now I know this might mean they refuse to give me a further advance but could it also mean, now that my circumstances have changed, that they can take my mortgage off me? Or once you're in a product and paying it with no problems (I've had a mortgage for 16 years and have never even made a late payment)they wouldn't do that? Not knowing the answer to this (if indeed there is a uniform answer) means I'm too scared to call them about a possible advance. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks

    I wish I......

The same thing has happened to me over the last few years - I.e someone giving me a lovely smile or tried to make small talk, but I've just clammed up or looked away. So stupid and I berate myself afterwards, but it's embarrassment I guess....
  14. Hi all I'm looking to do some pre-filming with a child that starts school on Thursday, 4th Sept for Good Morning Britain on ITV. We want to do a 'from a child's viewpoint' piece so we would need to put a little 'go pro' camera on the child so we can see them go through the school gates for the first time, see their classroom for the first time etc, etc. There would be a fee for this and probably quite fun for the child - pls PM me for more info. The piece would then be aired on Fri morning. Many thanks
  15. I know I've probably been really dumb but I parked in the loading bay just down the side of cafe Nero on Friday for 13 mins. The notice says it's a loading bay, 30 mins (or 40?) no return within two hours. I was going to get a piece of heavy furniture from Oliver bonas but ended up not getting it. I genuinely thought it was ok to park in those bays for the allotted time period - I'm guessing an appeal would be pointless? Any advice much appreciated.
  16. Sorry kate08 my previous post was directed at Woman of Dulwich not you! Apologies. And Thankyou Sillywoman - v well articulated and interesting to hear from the perspective of a mum of a teen girl. I just think there are much more important things to get concerned about when raising daughters. And happy to admit I do LOVE a spa day....
  17. Yes, kate08 - can you please enlighten me as to where you think this is 'going' as I'd be terribly interested? As many other sensible posters have mentioned playing dress up may (or may not) be a part of lots of childrens' development. For your information my daughter is incredibly, bright, motivated and driven, she has lots of friends of both sexes (wouldn't ever be described as girly, but if she was, so what?) and sees her hard working single mum (yes, me!) go to work, in a fairly high powered job and believes she can do and be anything she wants . That, to me, is one of the most important lessons I can teach her and I lead by example....if she wants to mix up a fruity face pack and paint her nails with her friends for her 8th birthday because she has a passing whim to do it who cares?? If you really think that this is some kind of statement or setting a precedent about how women should 'be' then I pity you. Teach girls (and boys!) to be self sufficient and that they can achieve anything they want is what it's all about - to me anyway. Like I said, didn't mean to start a debate, but hey, it's an interesting one!
  18. Didn't really mean to start a debate on the rights and wrongs of pamper parties for eight year old girls. It's a bit of fun and playing at 'dress up' as lots of boys qnd girls do. It's not as if I allow my daughter to clatter around in heels, false eyelashes and a push up bra on Lordship Lane. If anything she's more of a tomboy, and as someone else said its a passing whim. It's a two hour party for Gods sake, nothing more.
  19. Hi there I don't really love the idea but my daughter wants a pamper party for her eighth birthday in July - I've contacted a couple of companies in the area who do these - one does it 'in house' and the other comes to your home to do the party. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of local companies doing this sort of thing - good or bad? There will probably be about eight little girls in total. Many thanks

    Homebuyer Hell

Hello All I'm a TV Producer and am looking to talk to people who have bought property this year that needs a great deal of repair. This is on the back of a report that says that a buoyant property market is putting buyers under pressure to buy a home without checking it properly for damage, leaving many with hefty repair bills after moving in . Apparently new home owners spend ?4205 on average fixing 'hidden' problems with their property and almost a third of those who bought property this year believe their seller deliberately concealed problems during the sale - tactics sellers used include painting over mould, moving furniture to cover problems during viewing, hiding damage behind pictures etc. If this is something you've experienced I'd love to hear from you with a view to doing an interview for a morning TV show. Fee available.
  21. Hello - On Monday it's one week until GCSE exams start. Good Morning Britain (ITV's new breakfast show) are looking to speak to a family with twins (or triplets even better!) who are both taking their GCSEs next week. We want to talk (live on Mon morning from your home) to them about how they're feeling about the impending exams, and their mums and dads about how they're coping too!Fee involved. Please PM for more info.

  23. Hello All I'm a local mum and TV Producer and am putting together an item on next week's school strikes for ITV Daybreak - I'm looking to speak to some parents regarding their views on it - whether they support the teachers actions or are against them. I'm looking for a range of views. Please PM me for more information if you're interested. thanks
