  1. I was there yesterday and only didn't park where everyone else did (i.e. on Strakers Road, where I have often parked) as a woman who had just been given a ticket warned us and we eventually managed to get a place in the car park. As we drove home practically everyone on Strakers Road had a ticket but people normally park there all the time, there are no signs on restrictions and I think everyone who parked there did it genuinely thinking they could. There were many groups of angry people and should think Southwark will be getting lots of appeals.
  2. Batgirl - I'm no longer married either but my daughter has got a place at St Anthony's - we are in Nunhead too and did not expect to get in and I think the only reason she has ha is because they made an extra fifteen places available this year. Father John was supportive of my single parent status so I don't think that's a problem - I think you were incredibly unlucky that they did not make those extra places available last year.
  3. I work Mondays and in my two recent posts have had to inc bank holidays as part of my holiday entitlement so that;s something to consider - i.e. if I had 15 days holiday, four of those were bank holidays - so only 11 of my 'own' if that makes sense.
  4. I share a nanny with one other family and it works out that she gets ?11.50 net, ?14 per hour gross. So, splitting between two families we pay ?7.25 an hour each gross. It is very expensive and I had no choice as I wanted my daughter to go to pre-school five mornings a week but could not find anyone who could be this flexible with their timings - I am a single parent so that by the time I have paid my nanny I walk away with about ?30 a day.....but I accepted it would be for a short time and again 'have taken the hit' but will be glad when I no longer need this type of childcare.
  5. am pretty sure it's as the crow flies
  6. Thks for replies - Dorothy - do I just phone a main head office number to do this?
  7. Sorry, slightly crazy request and am not sure anyone on here would have such a thing (or if they do am sure they will need it) but I have broken my ankle and for next few days cannot bear weight on it - my crutches are hurting my hands (blisters forming already!) so finding it hard to get around....would just love to get out and about for the weekend so friends can wheel me about...King's are treating me - do they lend out wheelchairs? - was in such a state yesterday, never asked.. thanks v much
  8. I know a Darcy at my daughter's nursery, not sure of her mum's name...her Darcy would be 4 or nearly 4 though so might not be her....
  9. I know how your friend feels! My best friend and I went to Greenwoods Hotel and Spa in Stock, Essex, (takes us just over an hour from ED) which is a hotel with a spa attached who do some fab deals on a Sat night (dinner, bed and breakfast, with a treatment thrown in, under ?100 each)It's a nice hotel (not super posh but does the job) and we get there, have nice lunch in lounge on big sofas, read papers, swim, have treatments, chat and have a nice dinner. It always makes me feel better but know it gets booked up quick (as cheap for a spa weekend) so check it out as soon as you can.
  10. Exactly as Minder says - most childminders (I think) are Ofsted registered so operate under a very stringent code (all childminders I know do anyway) and I probably should't say this but think 'good' childminders don't often go on the list as they don't need to - their spaces are filled months in advance due to word of mouth. I looked through the council list and was very uninspired then found simply childcare.
  11. Go to www.simplychildcare.co.uk - you can place an ad and see ads placed by childminders for your area - many of them are not on council lists, it's where I found my lovely childminder and many friends have too.
  12. Does Sid live in SE5 - I love him.
  13. I started the 'man' post, am still here, still single, still hot....

  17. Hi All Am trying to organise a long weekend with 8 girlfriends in June and we want to stay somewhere (not hotel, self catering) in Brighton that is fairly swanky as it's a celebration....I know lots of lovely hotels there but nothing self catering.....any suggestions? Many thanks
  18. Agree with Louisiana re match.com - inundated with winks/emails from tattooed, beer gutted, shaven headed men who all seem to come from Kent....with not a qualification between them and barely able to string a sentence together - Yuk! Guardian Soulmates OK but My Single Friend has some gorgeous men on it, but as there are similarly gorgeous women on it too the competition is fierce!
  19. Hi All I work in TV and just wanted to say that I'm not interested in the story from the point of view of focusing on this individual in particular or the shop - in fact prob wouldn't even mention him or the MIND store - I am just interested in using it as a starting point for the debate. And the lady on the bus story last week, according to the latest press reports after CCTV footage was looked at by the bus company, doesn't stack up...though the woman in question is stickign by her story. Thanks
