  1. Hi there am going on a fire station visit this afternoon (a school thing!) and want to get a bus from Nunhead/Peckham Rye but not sure if they go to Forest Hill from here - any info greatly appreciated. Ta
  2. just bought the ones recommended by very serious girl (which were recommended by someone on the forum!) and they do work, only ones that seriously block out all light
  3. Myself and a friend want to go for 5-7 days to Spain, first week in August....don't mind where we fly to (will prob buy flights/hotel separately but Malaga seems cheapest?) so has anyone got any recommendations for any great hotels? (never been to Spain, don't know it at all) Not too pricey! Or recommendations of cheaper places to fly to in Spain - thanks
  4. Agree with Gwod - I'm a journo too and think she has created a magnificent bit of PR for the mag...have got journo friends who have written similar inflammatory articles which are based largely on truth but beefed up hugely to make a good read...so what? And a little part of me gets so very sick and tired of the 'breast is best brigade' that I'm glad something like this has come out. I hated breastfeeding, tried it for eight weeks - it didn't hurt, I just couldn't do it,nothing came...but the guilt I was made to feel was ridiculous. And as for health benefits I reckon my daughter was the least sickly out of all her contemporaries, is in rude health now, incredibly intelligent and we have a great bond.
  5. It must be really annoying to post on here about something that is quite important to you and then just get lots of people trying to outdo each other in the humour stakes...Clarey28 am in a bit of a different position to yourself and cannot really think of any better suggestions than the (sensible) ones already posted...but I do know one thing, The Bishop is def not the place to find a decent bloke....unfortunately there's lots of already taken/married men around here so not sure a great stamping ground for single and childless (well I'm presuming you don't have children)- Camberwell or Brixton better maybe? My mum suggested book clubs to find a decent man but just don't think many (straight) single men hang out there....
  6. thank you everyone - am about to order one of the two suggested above...tonight I have used drawing pins, blue tack and towels to block out light...my daughter even said to me to tonight as I put her to bed, 'Mummy I wasn't being naughty getting up it was just too light to sleep but it's dark now so it's much better' - Feel awful as have been screaming at her like a banshee through sheer exhaustion. Am praying for a good night and feel things will improve with new blinds.
  7. Am at my wit's end - my (nearly 4) year old only started sleeping through two months ago (am not joking!) and I was beginning to feel human again but for the last week she has been getting up at 4am, fresh as a daisy. She won't cuddle up with me even and carry on sleeping she just wants to start her day because it's light. In her room she has a black out blind but it sits outside the window frame so light still comes from sides/bottom and black out curtains but her room is still pretty light....does anyone think a blind sat inside the window frame would help with light? And if so, is there anywhere nearby to buy today? Or are there any other suggestions? She does have a bunny clock (closes eyes until time to wake up) but she simply pulls up the button to open his eyes whenever she fancies getting up. She is a very determined little girl so reasoning with her sometimes is a nightmare. Thanks
  8. Does anyone know of any specific ones? I only really know the primary schools around here (am hoping this is not a problem they face) but am not as knowledgeable on Secondary schools - any help gratefully received?
  9. Hi I would be up for this - my daughter is with her Dad tomorrow so I won't make that one but will keep my eyes open for other meetings. I set up a single parents meet up last summer but never got round to doing it again - it's a great idea!
