Arriving home today I found a council notice stuck to the lamp post outside my house. The extent basically is that there are a number of changes coming to the area in repsect to parking. Some are simply an extra disabled bay on a particular road - other are extensions of current CPZ's. Here is a link so you can check if you may be affected. http://southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/2558/traffic_orders

How to Normalise Cycling in East Dulwich
polla2256 replied to Jakido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It really is difficult to take this thread seriously when the word "normalise" is used. To what standard of conformity are you referning, from which standard has it deviated and how ? Is the bigger issue not national and related to attitue ? -
In all likely hood there may have been a number of failures. If an 8 car unit (comprised of 2 4 cars) experiences a failure you can send out a 4 car (by splitting the unit) and repair the faulty 4 car left behind (at some point). The time you have specified is peak time and unlikely to have planned and intentional reduced capicity. Also if a different diagram of the route has a failure (this time only a 4 car), it is logical to split a unit and re-diagram that half leaving the (now) smaller unit on its original diagram to increase capaicty on the other part of the network. In short at least the train turned up and I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

I can recommend the new astra - used prices have dropped significantly and GM/opel have really upped their game. I'm unsure what the automatic version is like though. Stay awayt from any small engined diesel if you are a city dweller - The EGR valves can't cope with it. If warranty is a concern Kia is a good option. If its access and space maybe a skoda yeti is a good alternative.

Incident at Sainsburys cash machines
polla2256 replied to Jimmyv's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree, each time I go there (which is rare) there are dodgy characters all over the place. The trolly collector man, The bag helper in the car park, the guy who just wanders round asking for money (near the far left of the car park as viewed from the super market. Last week I saw a new one - The guy in a hivi takinging down reg No's as I drove in the car park - He didn't fit. -

LOL 21st century ? What has this got to do with a local shop ? Also drawing a refence to religion highlights your short comings. Yes it was a means of control and is why we do have some laws on sundays etc but I prefer we control our own detiny, our own social culture, own minds and own freedom. To me this is the 21st century. -

Yes there are workers rights and employment laws but a wider impact on our society at large must be taken into account. It's becoming common place for such shops to open these kind of hours. Many parts of central europe still have no opening on Sundays, 9-5 normal hours and are all the better for it - There aappears to be far less social disruption. I'm no expect on this matter nor an ecomnomist but we must take stock of our community and how we want it. It's not just this co-op but all co-ops, tescos, sainsburys, house of fraisers, debenhams, spar .... the list is endless. The end game for us is a 24/7 society with no ownership of our social environment. The affect on staff is just my argument - there are many others. -

Will the current staff be offered the option of working the different hours or just have to cope with a re-roster ? On one hand yes it can be good for the consumer, however the impact on the workers and their families should be taken into account to enable such changes before rushing them through. Okay now the argument of at least they have a job bla bla, well if their job changes to such an extent they should have their rights protected. Any opinions on this ? I would also like to extent this idea into the thought that extended Sunday hours should be rolled out accross the high street - There is a social impact that should not be disregared. -

Just say no, screw the government.

Can't see it as a problem with the current climate. Relaxed planning laws, basement coversion, build in green belts etc

It's a total crock of shit. Don't get me wrong I love my wife - As I tell her every day. The point is what a miserable society we must live in to only celebrate love on 1 day of the year. Just another sales forecast I'm afraid and nothing more.

I propose action. What can we do beyond that which is already done ??? Citizen Patrols ? Raising Awareness ? Pressure groups ? Poseter campaign ? I would very much like to start a "group" to combat these kind of crimes. PM me for interest !
