Because it's not just the buses on this diversion - the whole road is closed so all traffic normally using Clapham Park Rd as well as the traffic the diversion route normally carries is trying to use the same road, thus ++ congestion & everything going slower...Clearer now?
  2. Made bbc news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-30315650

Having previously worked in A&E, can I reasdure you that no one is ever "made" to wait 3-4hrs, yes there's can sometimes be a wait, but due to the amount of patients - the staff's aim is always to get everyone seen & dealt with asap. I understand your reluctance to travel far with poorly child, maybe if they'd offered appropriate advice on pain relief, a short drive to the Lister wouldn't have seemed as bad. Would suggest contacting the practice manager and checking if they have a patient advocacy and liaison service to access and share your grievance with.
  4. Am sure the staff at nursery would be happy to discuss this & am sure they'd offer you some reassurance. As Belle said, he's still v v young & remember, if there was anything especially worrying they'd be approaching you. Between 2.5yrs & 3yrs there's huge leaps in the way kids process things & boundaries do get tested as their realising that they don't automatically have to do everything their asked when their asked to do it. Communication & consistency with nursery (as well as lots of praise when he is good) is the key xx
  5. Worth asking as know of people whose kids have gone into school nurseries mid way through the year - guessing it depends on others leaving/moving.
  6. Tippee toes sessions are fab & have lots of sibling pairs of similar age. If you google Tippee Toes East Dulwich their website comes up with details of all their classes 😊
  7. Must've been pretty uncomfortable for the person asked by the artist to do this (as they advertised for people to do this the artist who came up with the idea obv didn't want to put themselves out there doing this). Seems magnificently shortsighted of them not to consider the upsetting affect on kids & families. As others have said, it's all well & good doing "performance pieces" that leave adults challenged, but there is something ethically wrong with them doing it in a way that has almost specifically targeted young children.
  8. I got it at Camberwell on a pre-booked Saturday appt - definitely not appropriate to take kids along though. If you call up, they'll be able to advise you on availability/when to call to snag a good appt slot.
  9. Would suggest a medical kit/Drs bag would give more flexible play/get more use than a hospital playset. The Doc McStuffins medical kit is good (especially if your child likes the programme) my daughter got the kit for her 4th birthday & plays with it frequently in many different ways (toys being the patient/me being the patient/if anyone feels ill at home she give them a once over!). Course, (all my fault) but she is a bit nursing/medicine obsessed! Another enduring favourite is an ELC ambulance that my daughter got for her first birthday (annoyingly it's no longer available: http://reviews.elc.co.uk/3744/123362/reviews.htm?sort=reviewTextLength ). The wow one might be similar :-)

Rather than moaning about the police response to the incident, think it should be the perpetrator(s) you blame for your inconvenience.
  11. We've been to the whippersnappers one in Dulwich Park twice & really enjoyed it - much more than just seeing Santa, the whole team are in character and give it a really magical feel. Get to see a reindeer, decorate a gingerbread man & get face painted as well as gift from Santa included in the price.
  12. Aww, glad all ok & that she's getting use to having freedom again!! Kids xr's can be v difficult to read & no one would want to misdiagnose a fracture, thus the cautious approach. SLad - you can write on new style ones with sharpies/perm markers, but the trade off is it's a lot lighter & stronger.
  13. To be fair to childminders - many can't sit with children getting them to sleep as they have several children in their care at the same time. Finding a CM who fits your ideas on discipline should be possible (I found mine via the forum & was lucky enough that we clicked immediately and share ideals), but I had to accept that she would be unlikely to sit with my 11mth old until he's asleep as she has another couple of children to care for as well. I'm comfortable that while not physically beside him, he is literally in the room next door, and if he doesn't settle (unusual as she follows his cues regarding naps) she's back in & helping him asap and have found that (possibly due to him rapidly becoming more active) he's much quicker at settling for naps at home now.
  14. Haven't got brio, but have got bigjigs & the track looks identical to Brio
  15. Sorry to hear your little girls injured. The cast you describe isn't strong enough to support even a toddlers weight so please don't encourage her to walk on it - it's understandable that it's difficult, and youngsters bones do mend quickly compared to adults, but they need to be rested to allow that. I would suggest phoning the fracture clinic you've been referred to & ask about bringing the appointment forward. There seems to be great disparity between local hospitals as to when they do follow ups - I'm more familiar with follow up in fracture clinic being the next day. (am guessing you're at Lewisham rather than KCH). Unfortunately there isn't anything extra a GP would be able to do regarding this. Sorry it's not the advice you were hoping and with kids a similar age to yours can understand why you'd want her mobile again quickly, but it isn't an oversight of the team caring for your daughter to save her non-wt bearing. If they'd wNted her to be walking, they'd have given her something she could walk in/not used a cast at all.
  16. Another mirena coil fan here! Also had heavy periods which are now non-existent!
  17. Whites on Brockley Rise will copy any colour you have a tester pot/strip of. Liked a Fired Earth colour for our lounge & managed to get enough to do the whole room for a lot less than the proper Fired Earth pots would've been (originally saw them rec on here - thanks Bluesuperted!).
  18. My husband used these guys having had a rubbish experience with an ED instructor leading to 3 failed tests. They allocated him to a local instructor who got him through (as well as teaching him far more than a year of lessons with the other instructor). I wish I could remember her name, (?Heather or Elaine) I never met her myself, but wanted to hug her for getting my husband so much more confident (& would love to send him back to her for a refresher/advanced driving course).
  19. Pretty sure they don't have private maternity facilities at Kings - Guthrie is the name of the private patients ward & they don't have maternity facilities there.
  20. IIRC, the original idea for this land after Newlands Ac was built was for it to be sold for housing development, which I doubt would've used the existing buildings (which are in what kind of condition?). The catchment for Ivydale is around 350m (for non-sibling place), think Cheltenham Rd/Benchley Gdns are the southern border, even with the cemetery, don't think Linden Grove is in catchment to the north. The school is in s position where it could've bulged this year but for no room being available. With the baby boom/increased number of families staying local in the last few years, this leaves much of Nunhead in a black hole places wise.
  21. I do recall there being some talk of a Harris primary school for Nunhead during the original collection of names to show interest for Harris primaries as I signed thinking that any potential 2nd school would be sited at Homestall Rd/south end of Dulwich where black holes were evident from previous research. Being in catchment of Ivydale, it seemed logical at the time that this could help improve the situation at Ivydale regarding it's shrinking catchment & increasingly high numbers of places going to siblings. However, since then (despite James' disquiet) Ivydale has started formalising plans to expand (thus helping the shortfall), and then suddenly the plans appeared for the hospital site in Nunhead's name - not what was originally thought & a wholly unsuitable site given the poor public transport links between Nunhead & ED, the 484 isn't fit for purpose at the moment, let alone if it was being used to ship kids around for the school run. Am very disappointed to see the tone of James' posts & the lack of appreciation of what the communities concerns are. I don't understand how such high figures can be put on land for sale from those providing public service to those providing public service - is someone trying to catch up after the Heygate scandal?!
  22. Sooo, it's that time of year & this time it's our turn (eek!). I remember last year there was a really good thread listing all the open mornings for local schools. Does anyone know any dates for local schools (in my case this means Nunhead/Brockley/telegraph hill as well as ED). Any ideas on potential/actual bulges yet too? Was sure there'd be information out by now, but even with Bugglet ensconced in our local schools nursery class I haven't had any info about their open mornings yet :(
  23. Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson is a good book with regard to explaining how things live on in the memory... not related to pets, but can lead to discussion of things they remember.
  24. Might be worth checking with the school nurses who cover your son's school as BCG is organised via public health rather than GP (thus the vauge/confusing msg from the GP).
