Hi, Just thought I'd ask for some advice here. I agree with breastfeeding in public as a concept, but now that I have come to the stage of actually DOING it I am a little bit more hesitant! What is your experience? Have you had any bad experiences breastfeeding in public? Are there any cafes/restaurants etc I need to avoid (because they don't welcome breastfeeding)? Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for all your input. I used to do the same route to Tower Bridge like AE, when I was still working in the City, which was fine (apart from being attacked once in Burgess Park!). The ferry is nice, but would like to avoid paying TfL fees when I am cycling! Agree on time with mikeb. I find it pretty hard to get speed up in London since I stop at the lights and although not unfit am not an aggressive cyclist (would like to return in one piece at end of the day). Maccers - I can't access your link.

Morning, I commute (on the bike) to Waterloo at the moment and I have found a route that I am comfortable with. Next year however it is likely that I will have to start commuting to Canary Wharf. The cycling route to CW seems to be a lot more busy/not as straight forward, either cycling thru the Rotherhithe Tunnel (fun!), taking the Greenwhich foot tunnel or taking the detour to Tower Bridge and then to CW. I am sure there must be people in ED that cycle to CW. Does anyone have any experiences to share on routes/dangers etc? Ta!

:-0 some of these bags are ?200! Surely it shouldn't be necessary to spend that kind of money for something that is going to hold lots of messy stuff! If you see a frazzled lady in a couple of months time, strolling around Peckham Rye, with a bin bag gaffer taped to her double buggy. That may well be me! ;-)

Thanks for posting this Cbcx! I was pondering the same thing. I have twins on the way (our first children) and have no concept of how much I need to take! I would prefer to buy a 'normal' bag, that looks remotely stylish, but obviously it needs to be big enough. I will check out the links the other people have posted.

I tried it before my wedding, can't see I saw much difference, but I did have it done at a cheapie place (the little spa under the railway arches in Herne Hill). And it didn't help of course that my skin was already flawless to begin with ;-).

On another, related, note. The houses at the end of the street along the train line have been beautifully renovated. I enjoy looking at them every time I walk past. Hopefully the squats will be done up the same way!

I am totally not helpful, since my experience with children is limited, but I thought I'd just pitch in! I took my cousins to the park once for a play and the youngest, who knows how to throw a tantrum alright, didn't want to leave. I tried reasoning and distraction but that didn't really help. The seven year old then came up to me and whispered in my ear 'mummy always just walks away when he's like this'. So we did that, we both started walking away. Half way through I asked the 7 yo 'are you sure this will work?'. 'yes, don't worry, he'll come' he nodded. And indeed tantrum-man came running after us! Still cracks me up that I took tantrum advice from a seven year old!

Is anyone having food at the Clockhouse ore is everyone eating at home first and then heading down? -
All the roads down the hill from Denmark Hill station are absolutely lovely, so I guess it depends a little which road you are referring to? The roads up the hill from the station are nice too, by the way. I'd be more worried if you said Loughborough Junction station, rather than Denmark Hill station! There's a couple of nice pubs (Crooked Well, The Phoenix, The Grand Union), nice restaurants on Camberwell Church Street (Caravaggio's, Mangal, Angels & Gypsies), a lovely coffee shop with good food on the corner of Denmark Hill and Love Walk. Tennis courts on Camberwell Grove. Ruskin Park closeby and Herne Hill for an additional selection of pubs, restaurants (or Bellenden Road if you fancy a change of scenery).

New 'banksy' style mural, Blackwater street

Not as impressive as Hithcock but I noticed this little rose had appeared on Lyndhurst Grove (SE15) next to the Irish pub that closed down. -

OK - Clockhouse 6th of June @ 7pm if I follow the thread back correctly? I will be there! (Twins, EDD 14th of Oct) -
I want to buy 2 memory books for my (upcoming) twins. As a kid (and adult) I loved leafing through my first words, birth weight and the colour of my first poo :-). Anyone any recommendations on which one to buy? It's hard to get a feel for what they are like on Amazon! Thanks! Chantal

11th of May 3pm at the Clockhouse Pub - Will try to make it! Expecting twins beginning of October, first children. -
Thanks all. I am in the lucky position to be able to take a year off, will see how I feel after that. I may be screaming to get back to work after nine months, or will have turned in to an organic carrot alpaca knit earth mother with a twin on each boob age five. Who knows?! ;-)

We had a marquee in the garden. The company we used had different options, which included heating and decorating options. I didn't want anyone (incl myself) to freeze! We also hired 'posh toilets', which were very good, it even had music! So yes I would recommend it, we were looking for a place with no closing time, and that would be fun and relaxed, and that is what it delivered!

Thanks for all your replies, it has been really helpful. @Dodie - how would a nanny be cheaper with ?10 an hour (assuming this would be net of tax), that would add up to ?500 a week net, which would be about ?735 gross, whereas nurseries charge about ?6 an hour. Are you doing a nanny share? FYI - I have already been to one of the Dulwich Twins 'expecting twins' nights, I felt like a bit of an imposter because I was the only one without a massive bump! ;-)

Hi, I am pregnant with twins and, although it is early days, I am trying to get my head around the potential outlay for childcare costs. I looked at the nursery fees for the nursery that is closest to us (The Villa) which would end up being ?2,400 per month! This would be 2 fulltime places, 8-6 including breakfast and tea. The Villa looks like quite a posh nursery, but if this is representative for nursery fees in the area, it would seem I am better off employing someone. Do you pay similar amounts at other nurseries? Would a childminder be cheaper? How much would a nanny be roughly? Is there a website that lists all nurseries/childminders? I have found a few website but none seem to give a comprehensive overview. Thanks in advance for your help!

Autumn babies club (due Sept/Oct/Nov 2013)
dildals replied to woman_of_vigour's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all, My babies (note the plural there) are due Oct 12 if all goes well. I am still to have my 12 week scan so I am still cautious as to the good news. First timer. No morning sickness, tiredness, or anything nasty. They're behaving rather well. A bump and a pair of massive knockers are well in development though. x -
Twins - Do I still have a choice of midwife?
dildals replied to dildals's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for all your replies. I don't live in the catchment area for Lanes or Oakwood. I can't seem to find any midwives in my area at all, they seem scarce! I can always give my GP or NHS direct a call. The services that Lanes and Oakwood offer, is this not also supplied by Midwives House? MH definitely won't attend the birth so that is one difference. It also seems that Oakwood / Lanes do a lot more aftercare. Is this specific to Oakwood/Lanes or can I find this service also with other midwives / MH? I am also booked in with Leonie Penna - she is responsible for the twinnies at King's. Any tips to keep control over your care at midwives/King's? @Rob Miller - Days within finding out I had read the TAMBA website front to cover and found out about the existence ofthe Dulwich & District Twins Club. It made me feel SO much better! :-) -
12 wk scan @ King's - nuchal test results?
dildals replied to dildals's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ah, brilliant, thanks! (And congrats with the proposal! ;-)) -
Hi I am having twins (which is automatically classed as a high risk pregnancy) and my GP said that as a result all my care will be hospital based, including midwives. I didn't question it at the time and went to my booking appt at Midwives House. But does anyone know whether this is actually true? Midwives House may be liaised to King's but they are not necessarily more specialised or experienced in high risk pregnancies, are they? I have been reading on this forum about Oakwood and Lanes midwives and although I won't be in their catchment area anyway I quite like the idea of seeing one midwife thru your entire pregnancy and having her/him at the birth (which will not be the case with the midwives at Midwives House, she told me they don't do labours). Anyone any ideas on this? Thanks

Hi I am having my 12 week scan soon at King's soon at which they will also do the bloods and nuchal fold testing. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the results? Is it a case of waiting for it, or is it a case of 'you will receive a letter in 2 weeks time'? Thanks! Chantal

St Thomas EPU is wonderful, I have used it several times recently. At King's it is walk-in but you end up waiting a long time. At St Thomas you walk in as well, the only condition is that you are actually pregnant. You are then seen by a triage nurse within about 15 mins, she then books you in for a scan. Last time the scan time was an hr away, I work closeby so I just had some lunch and came back. Staff is lovely (as is King's staff btw). Good luck.

There is a house on Lyndhurst Grove with a blue painted wall and a big orange sun on it. I am just curious, does anyone know who painted it and why?
