untilTickets here: https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout Stick in the Wheel are a band with its origins in working-class East London, UK. It consists of vocalist and artist Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter, their producer, arranger and Dobro player. They bring a contemporary approach to folk music with raw minimalism, setting vocals to simple accompaniments and handclaps, along with progressive synths and beats informed by the street music of their heritage. This will be a duo gig. “Powerful - and deeply relatable” Pitchfork “Maximum innovation” The Observer Bird Radio is Mikey Kirkpatrick, a dazzling multi-instrumentalist and singer. '…folk-horror of the darkest hue…his voice soaring like Scott Walker…Bird Radio fulfils his early promise as a musical storyteller of rare power.' Steve Hunt, fRoots Mataio Austin Dean is an artist, poet, musician, and activist from Portsmouth, Hampshire. untilThe Goose Is Out! John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett, Dove's Vagaries at The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road SE15 3BE. Doors 7pm Tickets: https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout John and Willy’s roots were originally in acoustic, roots and folk. Otway was hugely influenced by early Bob Dylan, Otway’s early gigs were on the folk circuit. In the early 70’s Willy Barrett enjoyed an enviable reputation on the folk scene. Willy features on The Contemporary Folk Guitar album with Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Gordon Giltrap and Ralph McTell. He performed numerous times at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Willy also spent time as guitarist with George Hamilton IV. Otway & Barrett’s grungy fast and furious fiddle, banjo and guitar with sweet and sour harmonies became pigeon-holed by the punk rock/new wave genre. “One of the most hilarious acts ever to grace a UK stage” The Guardian Dove's Vagaries are Sarah Pavey & Chris Evans who sing and play melodeon, flute, Anglo concertinas, guitar, pipes, drum and the exotic Hulusi (Chinese gourd flute). They perform an entertaining mixture of Playford-era and music hall songs and tunes, with some traditional English dance tunes as well. Chris & Sarah are also half of Morrigan, the vocal harmony group from Kent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeV5ZedLwIo

The Goose Is Out! Martin Carthy, Creeping Jane, Mark Whittaker, The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, SE15. Friday 28 April. Doors open 7pm https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout A ballad singer, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. He always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivaled position. Perhaps, most significant of all, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic. "Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all" - Q Magazine Creeping Jane are Sue and Nygel who have been running the Goose for the last fifteen years and Mark Whittaker is a regular at the monthly Goose singarounds.
