  1. Hi we have a Miele T2345C. It is 9 years old, reliable and still going strong. I LOVE it! It is a 6kg drum which is more than big enough for bedding etc. Not noisy either. No more drying clothes hanging over ever surface, things dry quickly, school uniform shirts never need to be ironed (as long as they are put on a hanger right away), feather pillows can be washed and dried on a regular basis, it makes life soo much easier and more pleasant. Have had it in 2 homes and neither had an extractor fan but both have had a window. Also in our previous house we had it hooked up to drain away down the drain but when we moved I decided to use the built in tank which I now empty for watering indoor plants as well as for filling up the floor steam cleaner. Was told that Miele last 20 yrs on average so only disadvantage is that by the time it needs to be replaced technology will have moved on hugely. Our previous dryer was a Bosch dryer and that was also excellent. If I was replacing my Miele I'd probably look at both Bosch (because they are considerably less expensive) and Miele.
  2. We have quartz and love it. Had granite for the past 17 years (2 previous kitchens)and found that great too. Wanted a change this time, looked into wood (not for us) and stainless steel which found expensive, hard to find fitters, don't mind the patina it gets over time but thought it would be too echo-y and cold in our kitchen so went with quartz. Bought it from Bells on Lordship Lane and they have a fab supplier with very good prices. After 2 years it is still immaculate and takes a beating : )
  3. Somerset House is the best outdoor for atmosphere. And Fortnum & Mason has a great pop-up shop there. Also lovely cafes with Fernandez & Wells, Rinkside & F&M cafes. Canary Wharf is usually good and less crowded but haven't been this year yet. Streatham is best indoor rink. Friendly crowd though it does get crowded this time of year. Prefer it from Feb/Mar to Nov : )
  4. I've given things before to Bede House which is a woman's refuge working with women and children in Southwark. They took bedding, clothes & toys. Their number is 020 7237 3881 and the address is 351 Southwark Park Road, London, SE16 2JW. It's the triangular corner bldg, big red door; between Frankland Close and Layard Road.
  5. Blackbird Bakery have the best mince pies!!!!
  6. So sorry to hear that, a horrible situation made so much worse. If you can't be there could you and your brothers help your sister out by helping look after her family while she's with your mum? Hold on to the good memories and try not to let him make you bitter. Really sorry.
  7. I echo Nappy Lady. We had it installed in our previous house (Edwardian) and it was taken for granted that we would do it when we moved in this house. Love it and cheaper and better then radiators. Like Bumpkin said it takes longer to get started but also lasts longer once turned off. You just need to take that into account and set the timer accordingly. Haven't had heating on in the rest of the house yet this autumn. Underfloor only comes on for 2 hours in the morning and house is cosy. Upstairs is cooler (but not cold)but not there during the day as live & work on ground floor during the day. But we also had the entire ground floor insulated before they lay the wet underfloor heating system and put in new back doors (take up all 5 metres of back of house)which are super insulated and new roof on house with lots of insulation so all combined made a huge difference. Well worth the building works!
  8. I too am thinking of doing this, so very interested to hear if anyone has put it up on their walls. Did you oil it or stain it or leave it natural? Did you screw, nail or glue it to the wall? Hope there are some responses!
  9. Yes, 3 13 yr old boys I know love shopping in Niketown for special trainers. Or ask parents if there is a brand they love and buy vouchers for that. Or tickets for amusement park like Thorpe Park to use within a year.
  10. We used one of these and it was perfect: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toddler-Potty-Training-Toilet-Ladder/dp/B006DLFHZS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448965313&sr=8-1&keywords=toilet+step+and+seat Ours had a removeable potty so my child got used to the potty and then it unfolds and converted to become the step and toilet seat that sits on your loo. I think there is something about the step and frame makes them feel more secure when using the loo. Just remember that come what may, he will use the loo eventually, so take a deep breath and exhale softly. : )
  11. The Dog's Trust also rehomes dogs so give them a call too. Dogs should not be left alone for more then 4 hours at a time so ensure your lifestyle can accomodate this. Obviously there are times when this can't happen but don't let it be the norm as dogs are social animals and it is cruel to leave them on their own all day. Be prepared to spend time training training training. Realistically you need to do x3-5 10 min training sessions every day initially. If you do it you will end up with a well trained happy dog. Watch the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, on TV. Get a good training book. Make sure all the family understand the rules and what is allowed and not allowed.
  12. I'm not crafty but we successfully made salt dough ornaments for Christmas (great for any occasion). Easy to do using cookie cutters and can be painted or covered in glue & glitter if you can bear the mess ; ) Here's a link for how to make... http://rainydaymum.co.uk/the-quickest-ever-salt-dough-recipe
  13. OK, this thread made me laugh so I'll add my 2 pence worth. I've told my family that I want my body to do to a medical school so future doctors can practice whatever they need to practice to become doctors. I will be long gone (hopefully) at that stage so my mortal remains might as well be useful! I believe they then cremate the remains when they are done and give them back to the family. I said that they can then scatter my ashes under a lovely tree that they'd like to visit. Bottom line is that I will be well & truely gone so I'd like my remains to be as useful as possible. It is more emotive for those left behind so the more they know about what you'd like the easier it will be for them. Write a will! Make everything clear. It will make a difficult time easier.
  14. I did a wine tasting at ToastED with my sister and it was great. We tried 6 wines from Spain and the guy (sorry forgot his name) giving the tasting was very good. The group was small, 6 ppl, and interesting. A great stocking stuffer voucher!
  15. Has anyone tried the latest pop-up at Platform 1 on Lordship Lane? Wanted to know if it was worth trying. Thanks
  16. hi, before I came across this thread, I posted an updated request for feedback that I received today (http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1590212)
  17. Hi, got an email from Southwark which you might be interested in. Dear Resident/Customer, The planning division is taking part in a Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) pilot aimed at making public notices, including public consultation on planning, more accessible and attuned to the new ways people consume information in the 21st century. 18. thanks for that & thanks to OP for posting here as wouldn't have seen it on dedicated DH thread
  19. Sounds good, what time is the game and do you just show up or should tickets be bought in advance (online I'm guessing?)? Thanks
  20. Ate at Pedlers last night and we had a great meal. The team there are so friendly & enthusiastic. $ of the 6 dishes were great, 1 was very good and 1 was disappointing (but to be fair we decided afterwards that none of us was a big celeriac fan to start with so maybe not the best choice to have made!). The various gin drinks we tried were lovely. All in all a lovely time, well worth going to. Loved the cosy "snug" which is tucked in an alcove and all wallpapered/painted a dark green colour. Lovely place to sit if you are a party of 6.
  21. Could we please have better lighting along Champion Hill and the Champion Hill estate walking down towards Sainsburys? Lots of us walk from Denmark Hill Station down towards ED, cutting through the estate and the lighting is really poor when it is dark!
  22. Ended up going to Rosie's (near Peddlers) and had a very good coffee there. Will try FIF soon though!
  23. Hi, does anyone know if Fabulous Ice Fires serves good coffee? Need to meet someone near there this afternoon and wondered where to suggest. Thanks!
  24. Hi, we used the HSBC bank on Lordship Lane but when I went in recently they had closed the business banking section. However they have one in the HSBC in Camberwell so easy to get to. I believe the 1st year was free banking. V straight forward and I mostly use online banking services. Hope that helps!
  25. Sorry Cedges but it isn't really user error when the link to online appts isn't on the appointments page. If you've been with the practice for a while then you don't usually read all the home page you just look for the heading appropriate for your needs, in my case it was appointments. No I don't want them spending excessive money on peripheral things but skimping on major items also isn't good. It doesn't take much to have the information on the right page. Anyway by 10am all on-line appts had been taken.
