This is what the riders themselves are suggesting. From yesterday's Evening Standard: "Last night the organisers claimed the ride was arranged to show stunt riders have nowhere to pursue their hobby legally. They said 'We still have nowhere to ride. What else can you expect. There is not one place we can ride or stunt legally. It will only get worse. The time has come to start a petition and we will take it as far as possible to get it approved.'" http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/hundreds-of-masked-bikers-rampage-through-south-london-on-dangerous-halloween-rideout-a3104341.html

Dairy Free chocolate cake recipe urgently needed
Inkmaiden replied to Fidgetsmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
300g self raising flour 300g caster sugar 4 eggs 250ml vegetable/sunflower oil 50g Cocoa 250ml whole milk or milk substitute- I use Koko milk if I'm making it dairy free 1 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1tsp vanilla Pinch of salt Oil and line two 9 inch round cake tins. Oven 175 Celsius. Beat sugar and oil together for a minute or so. Sieve flour, cocoa and bicarb together in separate bowl. Add eggs to oil and sugar mixture, beat in, add vanilla. Mix in milk. Fold in flour mixture in three lots. Pour (it's very runny) into tins, bake 30 mins, sometimes it's a bit unpredictable- or that might be my oven- so skewer test after about 25 min. Cool in tins at least ten minutes before turning out. -
First visit to Fabulous Ice Fires today- Oddono's is ok but this is in a different league altogether, as good as the best gelato I've had in Italy.

Veg Box-Any recommendations?
Inkmaiden replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've also used Riverford for years- always good quality and very fresh. The variety of boxes on offer is great- I tend to chop and change quite a bit depending on the contents, which you can see on their website a few days before delivery. I also order their milk and eggs regularly, which are excellent. -
I think I might be in love with your new plates.

Attention car drivers in SE22 - Red means, er, stop.
Inkmaiden replied to Hawaii86's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know they don't have lights (and are therefore zebra crossings rather than pelican?) but the crossings by the Goose Green roundabout and at the entrance to Peckham Rye Park by Barry Road are the absolute worst. I have almost weekly issues there, but my most memorable encounters are the driver who sped up and gave me the finger as he drove over the crossing just as I put my foot on it and the moped rider who decided that the rules of the road didn't apply to him and shot over the crossing from the far side of the car that had stopped for me- I couldn't see him behind the car, he missed my buggy by centimetres. Then there was the lady who drove over the crossing without stopping to look up from her texting and the man who clocked me halfway across but didn't let that deter him from driving over it in front of me anyway so I had to stop for him. I like to shout at them. It doesn't achieve anything but it makes me feel better. -

The only practical thing I can think of at this point is to donate to help the fight to stop it at its source. And to support the already over stretched medical, social, sanitation etc services in the affected countries, as this current crisis sidelines all the other prevalent diseases. http://www.msf.org.uk. http://www.oxfam.org.uk. http://www.savethechildren.org.uk

Found in Goose Green playground but my daughter insisted on bringing him home because he was "lonely". Hoping to reunite him with his owner. http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Inkmaiden/64dac287-346c-45a6-a943-2b0fdc253ee1_zps3003acca.jpg

Where can you buy fresh curry leaves locally?
Inkmaiden replied to Fragolina's topic in The Family Room Discussion
They sometimes have them at SMBS. -
We're going here this soon http://swallowtailhill.com. Lots of outdoor space, not beach side but fairly close to Rye and Camber Sands I think?

Haberdashers' East Dulwich - 751 families supporting
Inkmaiden replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hardly getting carried away with conspiracies, more idle speculation based on Harris's ever-continuing expansion in SE London. However, thank you for clarifying Harris's position on the secondary. -

Inkmaiden replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I assumed this was what Harris was trying to do by acquiring the hospital site for a primary- they would then be in a good position to say they are the logical choice for a secondary on the same site. Sneaky! -
Thanks so much, all really helpful!

Inkman, Inkspawn and I will be making our way to Elba via Pisa this summer and we wanted to spend a couple of days in Lucca. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay, eat and play? Or any thoughts on other areas nearby that are worth a visit?

what's the most outrageous kid's name you've ever heard
Inkmaiden replied to Ladysaw's topic in The Lounge
Bree is not an unusual name in Australia (or the bit I come from anyway) - shortened from Gabrielle. I know three Brees. I knew an Ix once, pronounced "Ish". I suspect he may have made it up himself though. Animal names seem popular at the moment- I've encountered a Tiger, a Bear and a Fox recently. -

Term Time holidays for reception child
Inkmaiden replied to Kes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pickle, that's terrible. A friend of mine recently applied for term time absence was told by the headmistress of her school that the rules don't apply to children under five for Kes's reason that children are not legally required to be there. Also, if you look at the info for Southwark school holiday dates, it says at the bottom that children must attend for 190 days out of the 195 days, so does that not leave some leeway for absences? Very confusing. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/download/8698/school_term_and_holiday_dates_201415 -

snowboarder, do you think your boys would enjoy a puppet theatre? Might encourage some self-directed play together- younger could make up stories, the older could direct? Then performed for you? http://www.gltc.co.uk/doorway-puppet-theatre//gltc/fcp-product/10000001260?kpid=10000001260&gclid=CPmbmYrs4roCFRMctAodwnoAcA

We have this one, although an older version- http://www.elc.co.uk/Marble-Madness-Game/125723,default,pd.html. A few pieces can be a bit stiff to put together and you definitely need to use some proper marbles rather than the light plastic ones that come with it, but it is the no.1 toy of choice when friends come to play.
-
What about a marble run? Or geomag? Both provide endless combinations and permutations, but obviously not ideal if there are any smaller siblings who like to put small objects in their mouths.

I'm definitely in the temporary co-sleeping camp on this one. We have had occasional night-time separation anxiety issues with our daughter(3.8 yrs)and putting her mattress on the floor in our room for a few nights always does the trick- no frequent night time wakings or having to stay in the room with her while she goes to sleep. She is then happy to go back to sleeping in her own bed. When you are chronically sleep-deprived it can feel like you are stuck in a never-ending nightmare. You may be clinging to the only control you feel you have, which is to prevent bad habits forming by not sleeping with him. From your description of your nights, it sounds like your son has already formed some habits which are making life very hard for you all and pushing you to breaking point. It sounds like you have done so much to try and tackle this, but if all your son really wants is to be close to you, maybe co-sleeping would mean you could all just get some more sleep? He is only little and, as others have said, it really won't last forever.

There's a diddi dance class 2-2:45pm on Tuesdays in Constitutional Hall. http://www.diddidance.com/index.php The SureStart playroom in Peckham Rye park (I'm still trying to stop calling it the one o clock club!) also runs a free stay and play session from 1:30-3:30pm on Thursdays.
