It's getting worse. I was hit by a car on Monday, on Consort Road Peckham, heading to Nunhead. And last night I had a white van overtake me as I was signalling to turn right (top of Peckham Rye) before, five minutes later, someone pulled out across me as I headed up Scutari Road. Feckwittery rather than malign behaviour I suppose.

The problems occur when the leaves are allowed to settle and rot. Pretty lethal if you cycle around here too. So the Surrey Canal Path last night was pretty hair-raising, as was Burgess Park and that bit of cycle path at the side of New Kent Road near the Elephant. Time was leaves were cleared quickly. But this has changed, the result of budget cuts I suppose.

The Late Knights bars (Beer Rebellion > etc) are still trading as before. I spoke to man who knows a man in the Brick Brewery recently and he suggested that LK's head-brewer was going to be part of some "backed" enterprise. But not sure whether the LK brand will survive. He thought not. Good news if it's being rescued.

Late Knights have stopped trading I believe.

Old photos of front of Dulwich DIY wanted
taper replied to Minitoots's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dulwich DIY is an ace shop. I got butcher's hooks and wasp nest destroyer from there only last week; all for less than a tenner That side of the road isn't particularly narrow. So Save the East Dulwich Al Fresco Mop Display I say -
Dog Owners - Peckham Rye Common & Park
taper replied to Peckham green's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I heard the most likely cause was anti-freeze the dog drank down near the car park and cafe. So that would not link it with where my dog might (might) have been poisoned. -

Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months

yes, apologies for using the "toast rack" shorthand! It was dreadful on Lyndhurst Grove last time the road was shut. It's a pretty bad rat run at the best of times. -
Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months

I remember that meeting well. The Camberwell Grove residents played a dirty but skilful game then and they'll do so again no doubt. They are a powerful, well organised and resourceful bunch. But were defeated ultimately by residents of Lyndhurst Grove and the toast rack roads. -
Or something been dumped there carelessly or on purpose. Or perhaps flowed down the stream from upstream. Do you remember the start to this very odd thread? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1546811,1709334#msg-1709334 I'd like to know whether it was a wind up or based on something. Where's the mulberry bush?

We used four different practices. Emergency vet in Beckenham (Foxgrove), then our vet (Neighbourhood), then Elizabeth Street in Victoria (they have overnight vet care) and then to a specialist unit in Hitchen!
-
Thanks. The two incidents could be linked. Worth checking out. My vet wasn't able to say what the toxin was unfortunately.

Thanks. She was very ill. And it cost me (or rather Petplan) ?5k to get here right. The water she drank from was the fast flowing stream under the bridge and not still water. Wouldn't necessarily have been that that poisoned her.

I posted something on here back in August about my dog in relation to Peckham Rye park. She collapsed, had a very bad seizure and very nearly died. Thankfully various brilliant vets got her back on her feet. Their view was she had ingested some sort of toxin, Although they were unable to say what. I've thought long and hard about where she might have been poisoned. About one hour prior to her collapse she had been drinking the water from the stream under the small bridge in Peckham Rye, near where this incident took place. she was sniffing around the fallen tree too, looking for dropped food. I can't be certain that's where she ingested whatever it was that poisoned her. But this incident has made me think again. Fungi and mold can certainly poison dogs. It's called Mycotoxicosis. I think the parks people should have a look at this.

My god, it is magnificent. There's food in there you would not believe. Manchego wrapped in fancy foreign ham and stuff. unbelievable. The best thing that's happened around here for a long time.

Raiders in Lewisham is good. Crystal Palace good, but competitive. Beacons is probably the most local. http://www.beaconsnetballclub.com/ if she's relatively new to the game though, I reckon Waterloo Netball is a good shout. All abilities, sizes and ages. Set up by local parents. And really good fun. Saturday morning at the courts near the Imperial War Museum http://waterloonetball.com/

Can't be any worse. I'll miss all the signs telling you what's forbidden and permissible though. -
Thanks all. Dog is stable, but still very ill. We've now got her in with a specialist neurologist. Not sure she has been poisoned anyway. Just trying to illuminate possible causes. Vets had thought it was slug pellets. Now less sure. She had drunk from the fast flowing stream at the nunhead end of the park. But I don't think that will have been the cause.

My dog was seriously ill last night having walked her on Peckham Rye (convulsions, very high temperature). I was forced to take her to her to an emergency vet's surgery last night for treatment and she's still under medical care. She is on the the mend very gradually. But I'm keen to try to trace what might have happened to assist her treatment. Best guess from the vet is she ingested something. Slug pellets look like the favourite. But neither I nor the pub garden we were in afterwards use them. Has anyone experienced anything similar after walking their dog on the Rye? Not saying she did pick up something there, but it is a possibility.

If it's heated, it will be a big success; like London Fields. It's in a brilliant position for custom. I can imagine a lot of people would use it during the week.
