It happened late 1980s. Kevern Weston was the Vicar of St Clements and his shenanigans involved cling film and a banana. Up until a few years ago my mother still had the newspaper clipping.....

Anyone else remember Mr Weston 'The Clingfilm Kid'? I was a pupil at St Johns when it all kicked off. We still talk about it today in my family!

Beautiful little tabby cat on Matham Grove
funkymadam replied to Annasfield's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Keep an eye on it then if it still looks lost why not see if a local charity can scan for a microchip? I did the same years ago, there was a lost looking cat, i was so convinced it was lost and so i took it home and rung around, a local cat charity came and scanned the chip and we found out the cat actually belonged to someone and it had been lost for a few weeks and lived miles away. It was reunited with a very relieved family. -
Heber primary school memories
funkymadam replied to jim_the_chin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went to Heber for a short time in the early 1990s (when i was around 9 years old) having been moved from St Johns and St Clements because some nasty little child was doing obscene things to me and another girl in the playground and the school refused to do anything saying boys will be boys - that was when Mr Marks was head of ST Johns. I remember there being 3 halls at Heber and walking down to Dulwich Baths for swimming lessons. Mr Dacey was head and i remember him having a bad foot! I remember Mr Shields who was lovely and Mrs Kapil who was awful - a really vile Classist lady who once told my mother that all the children in the school were of low class and at the lowest depths of social deprivation. Oh and i cried a lot because i didn't want to go to school and my poor mother had to walk up goodness knows how many flights of stairs right to the top where Mr Shields room was to drop me off then all the way back down again. I also remember getting lost a lot at Heber especially at home time and ending up in the playground with the large mural in the corner and not being able to get out! -
Mural at bottom of Spurling Road

Brilliant! And if my memory serves me well the elderly lady in the middle photograph was called Betty. On another note, myself and a few chums were responsible for painting the lamp post at the top of Spurling Road a lovely Magnolia around 1990, we were only stopped by a ranting little man! My mother was non too pleased as i got paint all over my school dress, and when i came back to ED around 2002 it was still there! Not as good as the sterling effort made by fellow East Dulwich Forum posters.... -
Used them once. I wanted quotes to put an electric shower in. One bloke replied came to the house stinking of alcohol and cigarettes then said he could do the work, when i asked him if he was a qualified electrician he said yes, then when i asked him for proof as my landlord consented to the work being carried out by a qualified person and i needed to provide proof, he went quiet then left. I rang him a few days later and he didn't pick up the phone. Emailed him - no reply. When i had a look on his feedback in the last few days it was all negative and he was more of a handyman and had admitted to one person he did not have qualifications. I didn't bother using Rated People again.

I usually tell them I'm a white witch then give them my own blessing which includes a bit of made up chanting, singing and dancing. They either still persevere to try and convert me or walk away fast! I did have a wonderful one sided conversation with one in our local high street a few weeks back. I asked him if he was happy living in fear created by Religion which was created by man based on a book mostly anecdotal in content. I asked him that if a single god existed would they not be happier with a person who was happy, kind and generous rather than a person who asked for forgiveness for no reason and lived in fear of this god's wrath? He didn't answer but was still screaming "REPENT! REPENT NOW!" as i was half a mile down the road. I've no problem with people believing in what they want, but i don't want them to tell me about it, especially at my front door or in my personal space. Even the sign i have on the door that says 'No Cold Callers' doesn't deter them!

There is a extension for Real Player that lets you download them and even save them as an MP3. It's easily get-able on the Real website.

Didnt there used to be a shop somewhere ED/Peckham boarder called Henry (or Harry) B*stard in the 80s? I think it was a junk shop.

Hi all, Would anyone happen to have any photos of the mural which was on the wall at the bottom of Spurling Road which was painted in the 1980s? I was born and raised in Spurling Road and the mural sparked my curiosity. I discovered upon visiting East Dulwich a few years back that someone had painted over it! Thanks

I stood behind the lady who played the teacher on Johnny Briggs at the checkout in Sainsburys DKH in 2001. good times.
