  1. A number of local restaurants are offering an extended version of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. I found two on here and another walking down Lordship Lane yesterday. I?m sure there are more so thought a thread might be useful. Anyone know any others / have feedback? We had pizza at 500 Degrees yesterday. The offer didn?t apply but they have extended Eat Out to Help Out Until 30 September at some branches including East Dulwich. You get 50% off food ordered from their a la carte menu. They now have a garden - sides mainly covered, roof of bamboo sheeting covered with plastic, lights and speakers. I didn?t see heaters but they weren?t needed as we visited at lunchtime. No issues with social distancing on our visit - we sat outside and only one other table came in. Inside looked like all tables could be used which would be too many for my comfort if full if all used. Pizzas and service unchanged. In the business section on the forum these are mentioned. @ 29 August Tandoori nights were keeping the 50% off Monday to Wednesday for a trial period book now to save disappointment. They've removed the tables from the middle and the small table in front by the door is for sanitiser. Terroirs is to continue 50% off Monday to Wednesday on food and soft drinks with a limit of ?10 per person
  2. Peckham Rye Park Consultation - Redevelopment of Bowling Green On my walk round Peckham Rye Park today I saw signs up about a consultation on plans to redevelop the bowling green. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/peckham-rye-park-bowling-green-and-pavilion/ The consultation closes on 11 October. The online survey suggests mini-golf or a pop up licensed bar in the summer and asks for suggestions of other uses. I?ve made a suggestion of an area managed for wildlife with viewing areas. I think this would be good and one thing to come out of the pandemic is a recognition of the importance of nature to wellbeing. If you support this or not you might want to fill in the survey

  4. Traffic in the area seems worse but schools have just returned and traffic and public transport is always quieter during school holidays so yes the permeable barriers have probably had some impact but won?t be responsible for everything we are seeing. Also it?s only day two - I saw three cars indicate to turn into the roads and then change their minds. I saw another three try to cut through Melbourne Grove / Elsie Road from EDG only to turn around and come back out further back in the queue of traffic than they were. How many of those cars didn?t need to be used on that journey? Yes there are some who need to travel by car or times a car is needed but there are also journeys that could be walked / cycled. Maybe those people will leave their cars at home so those that need to drive can complete their journey in a more reasonable time. It?s going to take time for people to change the habits of a lifetime of taking the car to Lordship Lane to walking for 15 minutes. We like Venice and travel often but it took us by surprise to not call a taxi or going shopping without the car, now we plan where we stay so the route has the least bridges to carry our suitcases over. We understand why the flats we rent have shopping trolleys and the supermarkets have places for you to leave them. It won?t happen overnight but people might cut back the amount of driving they do.
  5. Just to add to what Growlybear said I wouldn?t choose to wear a mask and had to try a few before finding ones that work. We bought masks locally - at Really Maria. Shaped and elastic goes round the back of the head. We bought masks off the internet - recommended in a newspaper article. Ear loops. I?ve used two types of disposable masks. We?ve bought stick on metal nose shapers. Conclusion: * Masks with ear loops don?t work for us - we both wear spectacles * Shaped masks work best for us - the masks we bought off the internet were donated to the Albrighton centre * Elastic behind the head offers easier adjustment * Generally we?re not going out and only come into contact with other people and use masks when shopping * I need to wear a mask for 4-5 hours when I?m with people and it might not be possible to social distance all the time. I tried out my cloth mask and disposable ones and have decided disposable ones are more comfortable for the longer period. When I?ll just need the mask for short periods my mask of choice is a cloth one * Stick on metal nose shapers help stop our glasses steaming up. Not 100% but I doubt there is anyone who wears glasses who hasn?t gone inside on a winter?s evening and their glasses steamed up. You just get on with it. It?s not comfortable wearing a mask but you adjust. I?ve had nowhere near as much pain from wearing a mask as I have from new shoes over the years. If the fact its law isn?t enough for you to wear one how about to protect others, if you are infected and don?t know it and therefore avoid a local Lockdown or imposition of tighter restrictions on ALL in the area? We all know that could happen at very short notice - restrictions in the North West, Spain on then off the quarantine list. An MP, before the law came in said wearing a mask should be left to people?s common sense. That would have worked Not. Think on - don?t wear a mask a future law could be wear them whenever you leave the house and the police will enforce. It was mandatory for a time in Italy but isn?t now. The Italians don?t get queuing and la bella figura (how you look) is a bigger thing for them than in our culture. They managed. Various places are making masks mandatory outside. Who says a future announcement won?t make that the case here? Re Sainsburys most people are wearing them. Yes not all staff do but just because someone else does / doesn?t do something should you?
  6. A question for anyone who thinks wearing masks or any other measures we?re asked to take are not for them. Do you want to go into a local lockdown? Everyone in the North West, Luton and Leicester is affected by the restrictions that came in at very short notice. Not wearing a mask, not following social distancing, meeting with more people than guidance says has consequences for more than just you. I?ve seen all of the above locally and it won?t matter if someone hasn?t left their house, has used Click and Collect for their shopping if a local lockdown is put in place it will affect them as well as those who met in bigger groups or played football. The saying ?No man is an island? comes to mind - no one can stop this virus on their own but together we can. Next time you go to do something and ignore the law / guidance think ?What if I can?t do this tomorrow??
  7. Don?tbesilly must be a troll but unfortunately there are others that share the views expressed. On the basis someone may read and reflect. Face coverings / masks that most of us wear offer protection to OTHERS. Would you want to have the virus but feel fine and pass it on unknowingly? That aside its now law that they should be worn in shops - not everyone agrees with every law but they are there for a reason. An MP said its common sense / courtesy to wear a mask and then it became law and not everyone does - what does that say? Wearing a face covering shows you are willing to do your bit - I doubt there is anyone who finds masks comfortable to wear or who would choose to but is it that much trouble? Staff wearing them - each shop will have its own approach and staff may not get a free choice. If staff are behind screens masks won?t be needed. ?let the younger generation- myself included, carry on living their life as normal.? Now there are reports that its believed the younger generation may be transmitting / catching Covid19 more. We?d all like to live life as normal but to do that we need to follow some restrictions or we risk going back to lockdown restrictions for all. Is that worth not wearing a mask for a short while? Good to hear of people helping others. That?s been a plus of this situation.
  8. The ebook service (BorrowBox) works well. It?s not the same as browsing through the library but it works well (iPhone app) and means not having to carry the book
  9. Another vote for face masks from Really Maria on Lordship Lane 1. Local - you can buy in the shop or click and collect - no delivery delays 2. Good for large masks - my husband always has trouble buying hats and spectacles as his head is larger than average. Really Maria?s large was a better fit than the extra large he ordered online. The elastic can be adjusted to give the fit you want - masks with straps round the head not ears are better for spectacle users 3. Only washed once but no issues
  10. Good point seenbeen. Given there is a good chance they will be made mandatory in shops when Boris clarifies if enforcement will take place maybe if you give to a food bank donation they might have community links they could distribute masks via
  11. Singalto I agree If you can carry the full bottle of drink / food in the package why can?t you carry the empties home. The empties are more likely to be recyclable if you take them home and clean them - doesn?t food waste contaminate recycling? I saw groups with tables and chairs yesterday, even someone who?d put tables on a trolley and was setting up in Peckham Rye Park. How many take those kind of things home and leave empties? Don?tbesilly The odd can, not a problem, though illegal and the person dropping it could get a Penalty. The problem comes when multiple people / groups think like that. Yes its not difficult to pick up what?s left but someone has to pay - the person collecting what?s left behind in a park is employed by the Council so if you pay tax you are paying for that. Whatever that costs it stops that person doing something else or the money being spent elsewhere. I?m sure everyone reading this could think of somewhere else the Council could spend that money. The larger bins at Clapham Common were overflowing and had rubbish left next to them according to media reports, with pictures, in mid-June. A bit like Michael Gove saying the wearing of masks in shops shouldn?t be mandatory but should be left to people?s common sense and its courtesy to wear them in shops. Not everyone will see that as common sense or a way of showing courtesy. I remember my dad saying once that before drink driving laws came in people didn?t think twice about taking the car out and having a few drinks, now its pretty standard that there?s a designated driver. Unfortunately I don?t think more / larger bins will solve the problem. Improve it yes. Seems to me we need extra bins alongside more enforcement to make people think until it becomes second nature to most people just as not drinking and driving or putting your seatbelt on when you get in a car.
  12. I thought there?d be some kind of negative reply but some of those reading might see the sense in what was said so I could take that. Don?tbesilly The intention wasn?t to tell people what to do , though I?m not convinced the government guidance is always right - as you say everyone makes their own choice. I do think the points made are worth sharing. The view on the wearing of masks has changed over the months but it?s now widely accepted they reduce the transmission of the virus and you could have it and feel fine so you are not wearing it for you. I wouldn?t want to pass it on unknowingly. That?s why I put it on here. Thanks for your response, probably got this a few more views. I hope not to hear of anyone else who had it but just because you don?t and don?t expect to be badly affected should you get it doesn?t mean it?s wrong to wear a mask to protect others. Your initial response says to me you are looking at this from your point of view not how what you do could impact others but in another response you did ask that your points be addressed not just written off as they didn?t agree. ? I never wear a mask, as i cant really be bothered to have this thing on my face. ? Totally agree masks aren?t comfortable and my glasses steaming up is only going to be more of a problem as the weather gets colder. Everyone can make their own choice, except where the law says they must be used. Balance how you feel when wearing a mask against the benefits - it?s in all our interests to reduce the spread. ?I am young and fit anyway so i have no fear of the virus.? I hope that lack of fear means you don?t catch it but it?s not just those who are old and unfit that can be badly affected. I know of someone who caught it, spent weeks on a ventilator, weeks in hospital after leaving intensive care and is due home on Monday. Still some way to go in his recovery but he was the one in the family they were least worried would catch it. I?m sure if you are the young, fit person who catches it and ends up in hospital it won?t matter to you and your family that most young people don?t get it bad. ?Anyone who does would do well to avoid catching it by NOT going to shops on 'the lane' and keeping yourself safer like common sense would dictate.? Plenty are, but it?s not fully in anyone?s control just as you can be involved in a road accident when you?ve followed all the rules but the other driver didn?t. I don?t expect anyone to respond to this to say this has made them think but if it makes one person think I?ll be happy.
  13. A friend posted this on Facebook. Says it all. "When I wear a mask in public and in the stores, I want you to know that... 🔵 I'm educated enough to know that I could be asymptomatic and still give you the virus. 🔵 No, I don't "live in fear" of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution, not the problem. 🔵 I don't feel like the "government controls me". I feel like I'm an adult contributing to security in our society and I want to teach others the same. 🔵 If we could all live with the consideration of others in mind, the whole world would be a much better place. 🔵 Wearing a mask doesn't make me weak, scared, stupid or even "controlled". Makes me caring. 🔵 When you think about your appearance, discomfort, or other people's opinion of you, imagine a loved one - a child, father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle or even a stranger - placed on a ventilator, alone without you or any family member who is allowed at his bedside. 🔵 Ask yourself if you could have helped them a little while wearing a mask. Copied and posted. Who's going to do the same?"
  14. If you are out tonight with pubs and restaurants reopening a plea please. Enjoy yourself but remember unfortunately the pandemic hasn?t gone away. Please practice social distancing and follow any instructions from staff. For me one of the most worrying things is that I could be carrying the virus but feel totally ok and pass it on unknowingly. If you get it and get mild symptoms you might be ok but we probably all know of someone that would be at higher risk if they caught it so if you think the restrictions are a bit over the top please think you are doing this for those more vulnerable than you. Particularly don?t ?shoot the messenger?. The person telling you to step back / wait will be telling you either what the government or their boss says. We all know the government isn?t always right and who hasn?t disagreed or not been 100% in agreement with something their boss has said to do? The person telling you to step back / wait has been in lockdown too. Be polite, be kind and do what they ask - it might not be what you think should be done but does anyone have all the answers on the virus? Not that I?ve seen.
  15. Got the permit online a few days ago. There were earlier slots available but we had a couple of jobs planned we wanted to finish so we could take as much as we could. Arrived and put the permit and proof of address on the dashboard, had to move the proof of address closer so it could be read. Directed to join the queue - 5 cars ahead of us in queue. They seemed to radio between each other and then direct you in. 4 cars allowed in, one person at each bin at a time - not an issue on our visit. Staff directed you where to go for the bin if needed. All very efficient. About 20 minutes from arriving to leaving.
  16. If you?d like to say thank you to non NHS workers have a look at this site https://www.yourcustomerssaythankyou.co.uk/ Sainsburys Dog Kennel Hill and shops on Grove Vale and Lordship Lane are on there.
  17. Cllr Renata Hamvas posted on this thread /forum/read.php?5,1984285,2114869#msg-2114869 yesterday that she was waiting to hear back on the current impact of staff sickness.
  18. Not sure what priority it will take at the moment, though if the same vehicle or location gets multiple reports that?s probably picked up by the computer and routes to KCH might be on a ?watchlist?, but you can report online to the Met Police https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/rti/rti-a/report-a-road-traffic-incident/?stepid=1-1-2-1-1-2&lid=c3ac428c-fb73-4948-bedd-1469aa202a03 The AA recommend having a note of * The vehicle's registration * The vehicle's colour, make and model * The time and place where the incident happened * Any other details, such as a description of the driver The Met Police?s website asks for dashcam footage 2 minutes either side of the incident. If you see something worrying and have time to report it then it can?t hurt and might take a dangerous driver off the roads.
  19. Apologies if this is a duplication but I saw it on a thread in General ED Issues and it seems like something for on here. The Council is asking for comments and suggestions to * maximise pedestrian space within the public highway to help people pass each other and queue, whilst adhering to the government?s social distancing rules * provide measures to make it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport, whilst removing through traffic, as the lockdown is lifted [www.southwark.gov.uk]
  20. Sally Eva thanks for pointing out the request for comments. Something needs to happen to make more space available to pedestrians / cyclists but sending traffic down Melbourne Grove doesn?t seem to me the answer. How would buses / ambulances be affected? Not to mention those who live along there. The road wasn?t designed to carry that amount of traffic - not sure any of the roads were really. Anyone know what the measures taken by the Council on Lordship Lane are - it was so busy and there was nowhere to social distance when passing the queues that I?ve not been since. I?d like to support local businesses if that?s changed.
  21. No date has been mentioned that I know of. Keep an eye on this page on the Council website https://www.southwark.gov.uk/health-and-wellbeing/public-health/for-the-public/coronavirus/impact-on-council-services/coronavirus-parking-restrictions-and-controlled-parking-zones. The postponement of the East Dulwich CPZ is mentioned.
  22. There is an FAQ that indicates feedback is through the relevant App Store. ?This is a not for profit app that was produced in a very short development time, therefore we admit there may be a bug or two. We welcome any and all feedback about our app in the relevant app store, or at covidtrackingquestions@joinzoe.com. Please bear with us as we resolve these issues.?
  23. It reopens on 14 May.https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/reuse-and-recycling-centre? It should only be used if you can't store the item at home. A free permit will need to be applied for in advance. Full details on the website.
  24. The queue isn?t as bad as it looks. As has been said it moves pretty quickly. There are differing views of 2 metres (as a general rule I find it useful to think two trolleys or the width of a car space). Keep moving when you can. The exit and cash machines have tape showing where to keep clear. If you can also keep clear the pedestrian steps / ramp into the car park which weren?t taped on my last visit anyone coming in will b able to observe social distance. As for trolleys I saw people queuing with them and getting them at the entrance. Once inside you might have to hold back if someone in front of you wants the same item (please don?t reach over them) but this wasn?t really a holdup. I didn?t see queues to pay. It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. Please wash your hands before shopping and say thank you to the staff. They are putting themselves and their family at risk to stay open for us. It looks like the lockdown is starting to have an effect but think about how many people you have contact with each day and how many they must. As you can pass on the virus without showing any symptoms we can all help slow the spread. This might be obvious to most but unfortunately not all. I know of a shop worker who was abused for telling someone to join the queue - they?d walked past that and a sign saying only one person in the shop at a time and this was week 3 of lockdown. The second was a hospital worker who caught the infection, two members of the household caught it and he ended up on a ventilator. Seems to be on the mend and they intend to take him off the ventilator. So if we have to adapt to a new normal that seems a small price to pay.
  25. I don?t understand how people can?t recognise the seriousness but its still happening. If you are able to use the open spaces and see others not using it as intended have a quiet word. Tell them you didn?t see the sign at first / your experience / someone you know of or are worried about. They may not take it well then but may think about it later and change their behaviour. Odd as it may seem not everyone thinks in the same way. The ?official? advice isn?t totally clear either and there is plenty of conflicting information. Is it any wonder people have different interpretations? If you are choosing not to go out Weatherman Walking on BBC iPlayer is taking me on virtual walks along the Welsh Coast
