Parking Marshalls directing cars. Short queue on arrival just before 9am. Queue around car park on exit at 10. Queue to get into car park backing to Dog Kennel Hill at 1030 but queue to just beyond roundabout at 11. Inside shop less busy than normal at this time of year although social distancing wasn?t really being observed or possible in popular aisles.

Do you need a visitor?s parking pass? As has been said Fellbrigg Road isn?t in a parking zone. The CPZ for that area has been put on hold due to Covid. You can double check on this map on the council website https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/find-somewhere-to-park/parking-map If you are in a zone check out the council enforcement times over Christmas and New Year. There is no enforcement on Christmas Day. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/parking-enforcement-over-christmas-and-on-bank-holidays

Its busy every Christmas even without current circumstances. Can you shop just one person for your household - please think about it the queue will be shorter for all. Please be polite to staff - they might have to ask you to queue or social distance but they didn't set the rules. I wouldn't want to be them at the moment. Their Christmas plans will have been affected too and they are having to work so you can adjust yours. Bear that in mind. Where you'd normally give a smile say Thank You - the smile is hidden by the mask. It took me a while to realise this.

The official guidance has been published. Its "stay at home", no relaxation for Christmas and a section on travel. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home You can only leave / enter tier 4 for very limited purposes.

The council have put details of their plans for parking enforcement on the website. I?m sure there will be those who think all restrictions should be scrapped for the period but you see enough inconsiderate parking and driving when restrictions are enforced so this looks like a reasonable compromise to me. No enforcement on 23 & 24 would be better but there will be people driving about who would park inconsiderately causing problems for deliveries and those doing last minute Christmas shopping so this may seem a bit harsh in some areas but if you make a Christmas bubble after restrictions end on Christmas Eve you / your visitors will be able to park in a bay for the period restrictions are lifted. Note charging will continue in parks. Understandable as they will be busy. Enforcement of double yellow lines and traffic enforcement (banned turns etc will also continue). Again needed for safety because of the few inconsiderate drivers. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/parking-enforcement-over-christmas-and-on-bank-holidays

New trees have gone in on Quorn Road

If you can wear a visor on top of a mask. A visor is better than nothing for those of us that can wear both two is better than one for all

We had mice and after they went we put in an earlier version of these. Seem to work. Maybe put one in the room you want to stay mouse free? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cheese-Repeller-Humane-Rodent-Deterrent/dp/B004QIRL8Q/ref=sr_1_12?crid=LC4PEMP510P4&dchild=1&keywords=mouse+deterrent+plug+in&qid=1607425058&sprefix=mouse+deterrent%2Caps%2C244&sr=8-12

What was the time on sign on the bay you parked in? If you were in a bay in the West Peckham zone according to the traffic order and the sign had the times for the West Peckham zone then legally the penalty is correct. The online map might have been misleading but even if it was incorrect it has no legal standing. Also I?ve not seen on here any question over the CPZ boundaries and if there was one I?m pretty sure it would have come up on here and been sorted by the Council and no PCNs issued until it was. It?s some time ago now but when I dealt with PCN appeals if the sign and traffic order were correct the penalty would have stood and a Notice to Owner been issued. Unless you are sure you were not parked in the West Peckham zone pay now. If you were wait for the Notice to Owner and make a formal representation (this will go to the registered keeper at DVLA so if this is not you let them know as if they pay on receipt there is no right to appeal).

Stay at home is the first thing the guidance says so although the answer is yes you could drive for a walk should you just because you can? The guidance says you can travel to an open space ?to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)? Could you go for a walk locally? We have more green space than other places in London. Rather than driving out for a walk could you visit / re-visit a local green space each day? I?ve been taking pictures of the same 3 locations in a local park on my weekly visits and hope to see how its changed over time in due course. I?ve also seen squirrel behaviour I hadn?t taken in before. I?m finding there is more on the doorstep than I thought and no need to suffer the traffic, which might be less than it was but the roads aren?t clear. 20 minutes walk and I?m at the park, 20 minutes in the car and at least the same to go again before you can walk. Even without the fact we are in lockdown is driving for a walk always necessary?

Skin_deep, thanks for posting. everyone should be wary but as you say it could be innocent Be alert but also be kind. There will be grandparents who haven?t seen their grandchildren and want to see that carefree attitude only children have. Unfortunately there are also those with less innocent motives.

A sensible suggestion by Nigello. The council will have even more calls on their limited resources than normal anything any of us can do to help that means they can use those resources elsewhere is good. 15 minutes clearing leaves, take your litter home, put a mask in the bin rather than dropping it on the floor - preferably having cut the straps to save wildlife getting caught up in it. I grew up in a cul de sac with a steep hill. In ice and snow some cars would struggle to get up it and the only way out was uphill Everybody cleared the road across from their drive meaning the cars that needed it could get a grip and make it up the hill and out. It didn?t take anyone too long from those houses and everyone who needed to drive out could.

The CPZ is still operating but in the earlier lockdown civil enforcement officers (parking attendants) were redeployed to other roles. That may be happening again or they may be refocused to areas that parking could cause more of an issue with where traffic is at the moment. It?s not all about raising money, and most people follow the rules and don?t get a penalty most of the time. Take note of the restrictions where you are parking and park accordingly and you?ll avoid a fine. If you park somewhere that?s restricted know you are taking a chance. Not all restrictions are sensible but most are there for a reason even if its not obvious to you at the time. I remember sitting at traffic lights and thinking the stop line was a long way back from the junction. When a bus turned into the road I saw why - a car further forward and the bus wouldn?t have got round bringing the whole junction to a standstill as would a car parking on the yellow line.

Apologies for the quality of the scan - I scanned it on my phone. This is what came through our door. Having read it again it doesn?t mention being able to leave for an MOT or provide the link for government guidance but it does say ?This includes? so isn?t intended to be complete.

I?ve read that the government will be providing some winter funding to support families and children. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-winter-package-to-provide-further-support-for-children-and-families The funding will be managed by councils. I?ve been volunteering at the Community Fridge at the Albrighton Centre in East Dulwich and the number of people using the Community Fridge has increased. The Community Fridge has been running for a number of years and providing food to those in the community who need it and I believe would be a recipient of funding which can use the funding to provide food where it?s needed locally. The Albrighton Centre is not something I?d come across before but they do great work and the Community Fridge is known and well used by those who will benefit from the Covid Winter Grant. You can find your local councillor on the council website and it would be great if you could contact them to suggest funding is given to the Albrighton Centre. http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgFindMember.aspx?

Penguin68 sensible response to common misunderstandings. The OP is right though some people are not following the basics and if we get complacent before there?s a vaccine then at the moment the only tool available is lockdown / tougher restrictions. It?s been clear for a while that although the over 70?s have more serious illness should they catch it they are not the only ones affected and cases are climbing in all age ranges, if at different rates. Long Covid is still an unknown but should be a concern for those younger who catch it but it?s such an unknown that until you know someone who?s experienced it or seen someone wiped out by glandular fever which is the nearest I know of it will be so outside people?s experience it won?t be expected. Yes it was starting to look like Tier 3 measures where working but there wasn?t time to see if that was the case and for the NHS to be able to cope if cases carried on rising. Waiting just a few weeks could have taken us past capacity the virus was increasing so fast. When masks first came in the government left wearing them to common sense. Some did / some didn?t as you?d expect. We all judge risk differently. Laws were brought in just as they were for wearing seatbelts and drink driving. Laws still get broken but enough follow them to avoid the worst consequences for many. Hopefully lockdown will bring the rise in cases down and nowhere will need to go into Tier 3 when tiered restrictions return. Having seen what can happen people will do the minimum so some families can meet for Christmas - not expecting to be able to visit my parents in Greater Manchester but maybe they can see my sister also in Greater Manchester - and businesses can reopen. The virus isn?t going away any time soon but if we work together we can keep it down and have a new normal until there are some options available other than do nothing with an overwhelmed NHS, deaths and the economic impact or be in an extended lockdown. Not something anyone would choose but it?s pretty clear all over the world that there are limited actions that can be taken to have an impact on the virus. I wish I was wrong but for all ?the government had got it wrong? here / France / Italy ..... There is no magic bullet. In answer to the OP?s post I think we have a chance but it?s not going to be comfortable. Stay safe.

JohnL as you say the legislation allows you to leave home to go to any business that is open or to pick up anything pre-ordered. The guidance from the Council covers the minimum. Too long or complicated and people won?t read it so it could never cover everything. As some won?t even do the minimum which could mean extra restrictions for more for longer keeping it simple seems like a good approach. The Council website has a link to the government guidance with more detail and I think that was on what came through the door. The government guidance covers more but runs to pages. How many have found and read it but read the two pages that came through the door? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#businesses-and-venues Hope your MOT is booked in I called yesterday and they advised me to book for an MOT due in January. First available date 21 December.

A great offer by the Mirash. Glad to see another example of support for the community

Just Giving is a good idea. I don?t know of one specifically for school meals but the Community Fridge at the Albrighton Centre provides free access to food to anyone who attends. They are always in need of donations and if you can help this is available at all times and used by a number of families, and others each week. If you can make a donation, this will support people locally, the Just Giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunitycentre
