  1. Yes there are classes in ED but they get booked up quickly, the person you want to request for SE22 is Tess Dailey. Brilliant classes - can't recommend her enough. She is fantastically calm and unflappable, but has the experience of having 4 children herself and combined with that, and the theory behind what works best (not preachey at all!)she was a lifesaver (when I think of the silly questions we probably asked that were just common sense I cringe a little, but she never let on). Also my (initially) reluctant husband loved the classes, and we met some lovely people, who 5 years later remain great friends. Would thoroughly recommend the whole NCT experience, and if you can get it locally then it's a good start to know a few people in the same boat as yourself. Good luck!
  2. Awful to hear another one go. Have great sympathy for you, SamY - we have one which is named as well and although not owned for long, it would be terrible to lose. Any thoughts from anyone how to make them more secure? Thinking wheel lock/clamp maybe?
  3. Not finger food but I find Porridge works well as a first cereal- especially if made to be gloopy as it sticks to the spoon when they scoop it up.
  4. Try the 'Mr Gum' books by Andy Stanton. A brilliantly written and funny series that captures childrens imaginations (especially boys)with the fantastically funny characterisations from around age 7 upwards. The first one is called 'You're a Bad Man Mr Gum' and I know Tales on Moon Lane stock them. Worth a peep at the website to get a feel for what type of books they are. www.mrgum.co.uk A bit of a modern Roald Dahl I'd say.
  5. If you are applying for a church place then yes, if not, then no. It was very confusing when I did it last year, some literature in Southwark says you have to but the school office clearly say no.
  6. Has anyone heard anything about Goodrich? Are they closed?
  7. Brilliant, think we try it out next week too. Have been doing toddler session at Grove Vale library but guess could always do that on way back. Will see you there Sparkle? No.1 is looking forward to your music club next week!
  8. Can you just turn up to Coppleston, or is there a list could someone tell me? We are also looking for something on a Tues am to do!
  9. Definitely interested and Tuesdays would suit us. I know how fab your sessions for babies are and am sure this would be great. Will pm you!
  10. Smollensky's is very child friendly and right by there on the strand. Always gives pencils and gift bags and has entertainers on sundays.Pays to book but is never hugely busy and actually prices are comparable to pizza express.

  12. My twopenneth- The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd Young Samurai by Chris Bradford Both aimed at 10-14. Both have amazing hooks right at the start and have strong female role models, although not the main character. Both have short chapters so do not appear arduous but with high quality writing. And both have a high pace and are very exciting and hard to put down. The London Eye is particularly good for hooking ch in as has lots of Southwark references. Have copies of both if you want to borrow ;-)
  13. Really glad have just seen this as am planning to go to Coram's tomorrow and wanted the best buggy route- thanks quick brown fox! We go the Natural history alot and my best with buggy and by myself route is to get train from ED to peckham Rye then to Victoria and then hop on the 52 bus. Sounds longer than what it is but fine if you get your train times right, I leave ED at 11.44, get on a Victoria train at 11.50 and get a bus at 12.15 ish. Often there by half past. Make sure the Vic train goes from Platform 1 not 3 at PR! Well worth it for T rex.
  14. Erm, I know a Sarah Russell in ED. Will PM you!
  15. Depends also on no of siblings and what form entry it is + if they have taken in any 'looked after ch' which is usually considered above distance. Catholic schools tend to have high sibling counts for maybe obvious reasons;-)
  16. Our 10 month old likes porridge sweetened with some apple juice. Not sure how we discovered it but works a treat but maybe not if you have tried all dif consistincies already. Would she take to some fruit spread on fingers of toast? I know that was very successful for a friend who could not get a child to eat a thing. I think you can get fruit spread at SMBS.
  17. Well I think this is wrong on lots of counts and you have the right to be pretty peed off with it all. The school in my mind should have been more proactive in following up the theft and assuring your son (and you) that they would do their best to return. Taking possessions within a school is not only theft but is pure bullying at it's most base form after all. Furthemore it is crucial that the message comes from a person in authority when the bike is being reclaimed as that will serve as a warning to not do it again. In my mind it should be school representative+police that go round to this boy's house.
  18. Out of interest, is William Rose planning to expand or relocate does anyone know? Saw that it had acquired premises opposite Dulwich hospital- had banner up yesterday.
  19. Ooh I was wondering what was happenning to no. 98 - my friend used to live there and I thought some serious work was going on there when I walked past the other day. Good luck with it. Oh and good luck with being opposite Ganapati and not draining all your profits in there - it's all too tempting when they're cooking and the smell wafts across the road!
  20. Unfortunately the wholefood shop you mention has closed, as has the coffee shop on the corner, Lucius and Richards. However, the Review bookshop is the best bookshop in the area and Petitou on Choumert is easily the friendliest cafe. I could also go as far as to say Ganapati up the road is the best Indian. The drycleaners is also brilliantly friendly. ED it aint, but there are some treasures there, though I would agree there has been some interesting choices of businesses there in the past, Fish shop? Carpet shop and now woodcarving shop?!
  21. The guys in Moxons are brilliant. I don't eat meat so can't compare to WR i'm afraid but even under pressure (as they were on Saturday-apparently their busiest Saturady ever thanks to Valentine's) they are so friendly and polite. Oh and the fish is top notch too. Think Sopers is great as well, just this is nearer now.
  22. According to the website they are shut.
  23. If you are planning to walk in, there is a great website called walkit.com which will tell you best route and approx how long if you are a slow or fast walker.

    Apex man

Yes, very pushy. Worth keeping an eye out for as they are definitely looking for when people are in and then pushing for phone no.s. If they were nicer they may even get some people's details off them!
  25. We had the call from Apex today- behind Goose Green. Very pushy and did not like it when I would not give my phone no. Refused to leave me the leaflet unless I took them up on the offer. Wanted to know whether I would be in mornings or pms for an assessment but did not want me to ask my other half and call them back. Kept pushing for times we were in and phone no so told police who apparently sent a van out to track them down. There were 4 guys operating on our road at the time, so they are obviously doing one area at a time. The guy we had was very persuasive and I can see people falling for this unfortunately.
