  1. Myself and my partner have had real problems either replying to threads or starting a new thread in the For Sale/Offered section. Has anyone else had the same problem?
  2. Jesus H Christ - poor Richard Ayoade. No wonder he looks faintly terrified.
  3. I'm guessing Marmora Road is outside of the ED ward?
  4. I got the 185 from Wood Vale right to Victoria and it didn't take too long. It was busy, but most people managed to get on.
  5. jctg Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Email the UK CEO. Seriously. > http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/guylaurence/ This worked for me the last time. They got back to me almost immediately and gave me 3 months worth of credit.
  6. Sorry to dig this old chestunt up again - but is anyone having any probs with Vodafone again? We're on Marmora Road and we're lucky if we get one bar.
  7. How's the drink selection now? Have the started diversifying a bit now or is it still whatever the brewery will give them?
  8. Tylertoes - slow down and think before you start throwing the insults about. This wasn't a pop at the police in any way - nor was it to say there was any blame. If you were passing the spot at the time (which I did) you would have agreed that it looked a lot more like an 'operation' than a callout for a collapsed man. Bearing in mind there was a fatal stabbing in Lewisham this week, it could easily have been a swoop on a suspect. Now I have more information I know that wasn't the case.
  9. I counted about 3 or 4 police vehicles, a dog handling vehicle and two ambulances which is a pretty big turn out for somebody randomly found in the grass. I get the feeling the police may be the reason why he was lying in the grass in the first place.
  10. Does anyone know of any local walking clubs at all? I'm thinking more of a group that does decent hikes in the South East and occasional forays into the hills rather than a ramblers group. I'm looking to get back into doing regular treks, and tying friends down for a weekend (easy now) can prove quite tricky - so I'm looking for like-minded individuals who are happy to head out of town once or twice a month and tackle some different trails. Kind of like these cycling excursions people seem to organise down here all the time - but without the lycra.
  11. Has nobody started the thread speculating about whether they'll be building an M&S or Waitrose there yet? I couldn't care less what they turn the play area - it'll take a lot more than a knocked down climbing frame to fix that place. I'm holding out for the re-opened Ivy House for a decent local pint.
  12. Ah, the good old South London microclimate. There's about a cm in Victoria and the place is ghostly. It looks like loads of people stayed at home to avoid the second ice age. Of course, I won't be joking about it when I'm stuck on the 185 at Vauxhall at 10 tonight after setting off at 5:30.
  13. I'm in Marmora Road and I'm having the same problems. I'm effectively paying ?40 a month for sweet FA - and their overtures of fixing the problem and compensating me for the inconvenience have come to nothing. I've sent message to their CEO and complaints again today. Let's see if anything comes of it (probably not)
  14. I bombed the house with Indorex last weekend and apart from finding a couple of dying ones over the following days, the house has been flea free since (touch wood). Whatever you do, buy it online instead of at the vets. It's about half the price.
  15. Having lived in Peckham for the past 5 years I can't say I agree with the sentiment; but keep avoiding Peckham - I'm sure it won't miss you.

  17. Frontline no longer works sadly - fleas have grown immune to it. I use Advocate now and it's brilliant. Despite having a house full of the wee *******, not a single flea is living on my cat.
  18. Is it wrong that I read this thread with the theme from Our Tune playing in my head? I almost shed a tear. ilondoner - I fully support your quest and I don't think you should rest until East Dulwich looks like the scene from The Hay Wain.
  19. Cheers folks. I just read some reviews on Indorex and it sounds like the best on the market. I'll give it a try
  20. I just had a chat with the vets (which I should have done ages ago) and like most flea treatments, they can build up an immunity to the sprays that you buy from local shops e.g. the doc martin's stuff you can buy in supermarkets. I'm going to swing past later on and buy some of their death spray. I'll let you know how I get on.
  21. Phew - I'm not alone. I'm guessing it's something to do with the weather. I know foxes spread them too. Did you have your place professionally fumigated then? It would be good to rule out any more useless treatments. I keep telling myself that they're just a minor pest (which they are) but just the knowledge of them being there makes me itch.
  22. Has anyone else around SE15/SE22 had issues with fleas of late? I've spent weeks of constant cleaning and putting ineffective chemicals around our house to get rid of them, but they keep coming back. I spoke to a guy in the hardware shop on Lordship Lane the other day when buying some powder and he said that he'd sold more of it in the last month than he ever has before. Does this sound like a familiar problem? My cat is thankfully flea free (Advocate does work) and looking very pleased with himself - the little bugger.
  23. EG - how far up Solway Road do you live? I'm going to look at a place on Solway Rd next week and I'm keen to find out as much about the street as I can before making a decision. I had a bad experience about 4 years back where our neighbour's sons were members of a local postcode gang in the east end and caused us a lot of problems. On some evenings there would be up to 20 of them hanging around outside the front door , spitting on visitors and harrassing my female housemate. It caused us months of distress and I'm keen to avoid it happening again at any cost.
  24. After a couple of solid recommendations from friends, my good lady and I popped down to The Duke last Friday for dinner and a few pints. It's a lovely pub with great food and half decent service. However, for a good part of the evening we were the only people there. On the plus side, we had our choice of fires to sit next to and very attentive service - but it is a little bit disconcerting sitting in a pub where the bar staff just look like they want to go home because there's bugger all to do. Here are my suggestions - although I think it's going to probably take a lot more to persuade people to drag themselves from their locals: - Decide what you want to be - a pub, or a restaurant. It looks like the aim is to be a restaurant first and foremost. However the menu (and don't get me wrong, the food is excellent) doesn't really stand out from most pub menus in the area. If you want to be both, perhaps try two different, smaller menus with a slightly more eclectic choice for the restaurant. - Find a couple of promoters/local DJs to put on a night on Friday or Saturday. Nothing major - just some nice music for people to drink late to. I've been here for about 6 months now and I still haven't really found anywhere local to drink late and shuffle around to some good tunes. If a good DJ can get a bunch of their friends to come, it might be the start of something good. - Food promotions a couple of nights a week. The two for one nights at places like The Old Nun's Head and Licorice seem to work quite well. Choose a different night from them and get the punters who can't be bothered to cook swinging past. - Get a couple of decent ales in. The beer selection is pretty poor truth be told. I'll definitely be back over the winter months. I just hope you guys are still open when I visit. Best of luck
