That's a relief - and better late than never. The council's only had five or so years to do something about it, after all. Many thanks to UVArchitects. -

If any of the direct neighbours are reading this thread and have any issues in the future re house insurance or the like, do feel free to DM me. -
dangerous structure on crystal palace road

It was in poor/middling condition in 2013. Things went rapidly downhill when the (unfinished) loft conversion was carried out in 2014. The "project manager" had no building industry experience whatsoever, he was simply an associate of the owner. The guys who carried out the work lived in the property for the duration, without electricity or heating to the best of my knowledge. I was also led to believe that, bizarre as it now sounds, Southwark Council funded the works in the form of a grant. The property was to be handed over to them for rented housing. The owner goes by the pseudonym of James Richards. His real name is Jacob Reichman and he is an utter tool. -

I had the misfortune of dealing with the owner of this property back in 2013. He lives in Stamford Hill and in my opinion is a highly unusual character. As other posters have pointed out the house has been empty for at least six years, probably a lot longer. When I last ventured inside in 2014 the interior was caked in pigeon excrement. It was crusted all down the staircase and banister, like a sort of bird-poo stalactite. The smell was indescribable. After months of trying to get the owner to sort out his chamber of horrors, I contacted James Barber and Tessa Jowell, both of whom were extremely helpful. I was put in touch with Michelle Williams at Southwark Council who was... well, less helpful. The upshot of all this was that the council assured me that they would enforce a compulsory purchase order on the property. This was in 2014. Clearly little has been done since. No surprise there. -

Sounds insane, how are you supposed to turn left into Sainsbury's if there is a bus (or buses) in the bus lane, without using the bus lane yourself? Have also been using that lane to turn left for years. Thanks for the warning.

The 37 is a temperamental beast and I've more or less given up on it, unless it's teeming with rain. Not sure if time is an issue to you, but I walk to Brixton tube from Pellatt Road every day as part of my commute to Camden Town. I follow the same route that the 37 takes from Townley Road, but go straight on down Dalberg Road in Brixton. From Townley Road it takes about 35 mins. Not the most scenic of routes, admittedly, but music/spoken word/language learning on the iPod makes it bearable, plus it keep the middle-aged spread at bay. Could be worth a try. -
Posh just went out on pens... should've stepped up, Erhun!

noise disturbance on Pellatt road from Royal Mail depot
Hawley replied to Nattaliec's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Much of what noise disturbance there is comes from some of the British Gas engineers who pick up bits and pieces from the sorting office in the morning. Many enjoy sitting in their vans with their diesel engines rattling away, seemingly blissfully ignorant of the "Generation Green" initiative currently being run by the company... Compared to them the posties are like Trappist monks. -

Our car also keyed on Pellatt Rd either Friday night or Saturday night. Reported to 101. Surprisingly, they also issued a crime number and have said officers will call round in the morning.

Took my German father-in-law who was visiting from Berlin on Saturday. He loved everything about it - the atmosphere, mix of ages and m/f ratio in the crowd, standard of football on show etc etc. Anyone reading this who hasn't been to see DHFC before, come along, It's always a great day out.

Based on what I witnessed at 8.25am this morning, I'm afraid it's a huge problem. A dumper truck waiting at the lights on EDG, travelling in the direction of Lordship Lane, had to ignore the red signal and move 10 metres forwards to let a coach past. The coach was marooned in the middle of the road, unable to turn. Meanwhile, traffic behind it was also stuck. What a mess.

Only a personal preference, but I would definitely choose InDesign for its superior layout and text editing capabilities.

Jones, Letts, Donovan , Williams, Roberts... the heady days of 1986: -
My wife and I stayed in a very strange place in Cambodia a few years ago. We were checked in by the glassy-eyed, vacant owner who was friendly enough but couldn't stand still and had terrible shakes. Then, when we reached our room, we found the chambermaid sprawled out on our bed watching telly. When I invited her to leave she got a bit stroppy and didn't make a huge effort to get going - kind of backed out of the room with one eye still on the soap opera she'd been absorbed in. Weirdly, though the room was spattered with dead mosquitos and the bogpan looked like something out of Trainspotting, the thing that most annoyed me was the lack of a waste paper basket. I actually went down to reception to request one - no idea why that bothered me so much. Oddly the reason why it bothered me bothers me to this day. Anyway, when I got to the reception desk I was told they didn't have any bins. Rather than question why not, I just shrugged and went to go upstairs again, whereupon the owner asked if I needed a taxi. When I said no I was offered a moped, "a whore" and then "two whores!" when I refused, hash, coke and finally heroin. All very hospitable but all declined. Later that evening we saw him and a gang of his mates boozing it in the pool. When he clocked us, he got out of the water and ran towards us screaming, "My sex! My sex!" and using one of those noodle-floatation-thingies as an approximation of an erect donger. Breakfast was a boiled egg and a can of 7-Up. No other choices. No coffee, no bread. Sorry, rambling on. Slow day at work etc.

Very impressed with the tall right back. Can someone tell me who he is? Didn't recognise him from the 6-7 timed I went last season. Good game yesterday...

Thanks all - much appreciated

Salsaboa - Yep, am aware it will fail its MOT. Jeremy - I noticed a slight judder when I first applied the brakes about 50 metres down the road, but nothing thereafter. Managed the 50 miles back to SE22 with no mishaps.
