Darren Gray replied to shell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Hilly Fields in Brockley. Not that 'hilly' if you park on the peak of (or near to) Montague avenue :) Was actually listed in the evening Standard last week Thursday or Wednesday as a 'where to watch London New Years Eve Fire Works' -

Christmas and New Years are remarkable times! We eat and drink plenty and have heaps of fun. The last thing we tend to worry about is gaining a few pounds; however, once the New Year kicks in and the festivities are over, getting back physically to where we were before the holiday period can be a little tricky for some. Here are some tips to get you back into shape! Try to evict feelings of guilt- Don?t feel bad about over indulging during the Christmas. Correct feeling states and having the right frame of mind is a huge asset when trying to get into shape. Be positive and ?simply? just get back to exercise as soon as you can! Engage in exercise that you enjoy- This is the most prevalent factor associated with long term exercise adherence. Put in other terms, it is evident that if exercise is enjoyable it is more likely to be carried out. Thus, your exercise programme or physical activities should not be a chore, but something you enjoy to do. Reduce processed carbohydrates- These are often low in nutrients, and contain many added toxins that our bodies are unable to deal with. To lose body fat quickly you should aim to substantially decrease or eliminate processed carbohydrates from your diet. Detoxify the body- We all know that our bodies store fat if we have eaten excess calories, but a lot of people don?t consider the fact that if the body is toxic from a lot of processed foods and alcohol it will store fat to put these toxins somewhere as it can not detoxify it all. Our advice is to drink lots of water (2-4litres) a day, eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruits low in sugar, avoid processed foods, and eat lean cuts of meat. A number of amino acids in protein powders are also beneficial for detoxification as well as other supplements like milk thistle, glutathione, psyllium husks and dandelion. You will be surprised how quickly you can lose weight when you put the right fuel in your body. Include resistance training- Resistance training is great for increasing lean muscle tissue and burning calories. Increase protein intake- Increasing protein (fish, egg white, chicken, turkey) intake makes your digestive chemistry work harder than it does with digesting other foods such as lettuce. This keeps you ?fuller for longer? leaving you more satisfied from each meal. Drink water at regular intervals- Water is often overlooked as a useful tool to change our body shape for the better. Our bodies work in an aqueous solution so if we are dehydrated in any way we will be unable to train as hard, think as clearly, transport nutrients around the body or eliminate toxins and wastes as effectively. I wish for you all a double dose of good health and wellbeing, Happy New Year.

Dear East Dulwich Forum Administrator I'd like to talk seriously about Weight Control (if permitted) I hope this is the space... The majority of weight loss approaches typically tend to look more at exercise programing, how much exercise and/or how often for example. There is also plenty of emphasis out there on the intricacies of a diet plan and its relative effectiveness for our weight lose ambitions. But less if any attention is given to behavioural aspects of weight loss. If 'eat less-move more' was as 'black and white' to implement for the masses as the analogy suggests then weight loss would be easy. But it simply isn't. One of the major differences between a person wanting to lose weight and someone wanting to stop smoking for example is that smokers can literally erase that behaviour completely, whereas to lose weight you can?t stop eating- you have to eat several times a day, so in order to make the changes I believe you have to learn to think and feel differently about food. Shall/can we discuss?

Just my opinion but I believe losing weight isn't as simple as 'eat less move more'. But what do you think... please share your; -success stories -opinions -ideas -difficulties

I did have a small issue with a package not being delivered last week and if the case that there are indeed temporary postmen/women working to cover than I'd admit my location has caused a little confusion for delivery services in the past. This has been put down to the fact that I'm 137-138 Bredinghurst Overhill Road and I believe there's another door with 137 on this road also (?). Nevertheless my package was taken to the post office on Forest hill road and have to say no issues with the service there.

DagmarJ I most certainly will thanks.

The beginning of the school year is a great time to start back on track if you have ?let it slip?. Like New Year?s, this time of year marks the time to get back on a responsible schedule after having holidays and down time. While many of us are adjusting to new schedules and enjoying the last of the summer weather, you may want to consider undertaking a new fitness program. If you?ve been wanting to get started, or if you just want to change things up, this is the perfect time to take the plunge into a healthier lifestyle. Whether you work outside the home or if you?re a stay-at-home parent, you?ve suddenly got an empty house and you may have some extra time on your hands. The availability of snacks paired with the absence of running after children can often equate to weight gain. So why not nip it in the bud and set yourself up with a new fitness program right now? I'm offering free taster personal training sessions at my exclusive studio on Overhill Road www.darrengrayfitness.com If you would like to enquire further then please do by getting in touch. I am very happy to discuss further any questions and quires you may have. 07904331044 Thank you Darren

I really enjoy outdoor exercise, and I've gone through the process of signing a contract and pay for a permit that means that as a personal trainer I must use the common within a set of rules. If I were to break them I'd lose my freedom to use the space as so. Therefore I agree with 'first mate'- as a community we should try to tackle such forms of anti-social behaviour. How in this instance?

Thanks for sharing. Was planning/hoping to take my younger brother for a paintball adventure and will now be extra careful before parting with my money at least. May do Go karting instead.

I'm 137 Overhill Road and have had to close my personal training studio because last year I lost control in the car at the same point you mention. Didn't cause or have an accident thank goodness but this year I'm not taking the chance.
