Hi all, Just a mention of Southwark-freecycle as a really good alternative to dumping the tips etc. If you have items you have no further need of or have outlived thier purpose (please no gender jokes) it's worth a look. Essentially, for those who don't know, it works as a swap shop, the main proviso being that nothing is sold and everything is free. Have a look at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southwark-freecycle and no I have no connection other than I am a new member and think it's a great idea. cheers mike

wow, I'm stagered anyone thinks ?11 pounds for a sarnie is even faintly resonable. Go into the cheese block and say "I'd like to spend ?11 quid on a sarnie", the resulting expression will be priceless. I can hear the chandelier laughing from here! mike

Groan..... not that old chesnut, "oh yes we'ill heat the pool etc" They can't even keep the pool open for more than 2 months! Fusion have run (owned?) East dulwich pool for some time now and thay have never spent a penny on the pool, they've done maintenance sure but apart from that you'll still swim with the cockroaches, who will still be better looked after than you. Can anyone explain to me how Jags charges ?62 per month for family membership while Brockwell AKA Fusion charges ?82. You don't even get a pool at Brockwell, instead they have a steam room. Never mind, maybe Fusion don't want customers?

Oriental Culture started OK, though now they've gone "high salt" which is a shame, especially on the seaweed, Mr Liu's is better both to eat in/out and the staff are wonderful either way. Chopstick's is diabolical now, yet before the makeover they were better. Mind you they went so much over budget on the rebuild that they had to regroup somewhere. employing family as architects is never a good idea IMHO. Don't know Lamoon though I'm open to suggestions so will keep an eye out for flyers. Is the Dragons castle the large place at the junction of the Woolwoth Rd and Haygate st, my kids kove the dragons but I've never tried to park there :-S

it is, true, all the more so when an area is well served for Bijou tea shops. What makes morocan tea shops so wonderful is the copious amounts of hash consumed with the tea, which is unlikely, though not impossible in ED. Realisticly how 'like ' a tea shop will it be with prams clogging the door and little fearn or phoebi running amok.

6 months to a year, If they can fix the rent. If not the rates will rise in 3 months and they will realise just how much orange juice you have to sell.

there is definately an upper limet, it's 6 months and they will not issue any further exemption without a valuation /tribunal. I've almost finished converting my house back from 2 flats into one family home and have finally bee given my new banding. However the council have not and cannot alter my council tax as the paperwork is stuck in the system and they have no way of knowing when it will change. Also they need to see all evidence ie plans/engineering drawings and 2 further site visits before they will accept that the house is not habitable (meaning legally, it has no water/sanitation)

Cheese block is brilliant, sure they don't go all Yankee on you and fawn when you deign to enter their shop but frankly I can't stand that cheery C**p when it's obvious they don't mean it. We've lived in ED since 1998 and have been going to both to the Cheese block and SMBS for years and have never had any issues at all. the (Cheese Blocks) boss is also a fabulous cook, knows more about all things food/cheese related than most have forgotten and has a remarkable appetite for Lemoncello, which is nice. Personally I don't think EDD does anything worthy of note, poor ingredients, poor staff, poor prices. Just my point of view of course.

Hi all, Long time resident but first post here but I just wanted to say Le Moulin is wonderful. great food, unfussy, unpretentious and could probably do with a bit of support. the meat is from William rose (of course) the fish is delivered daily from Hastings and the home made schnapps is probably not good for you but so much the better for it! Anyone born in the 70's will love it's style. Try to ignore the neon yellow Chinese sign for next door, advertising plated dishes which it doesn't serve.(Anyone who works in planning could do far worse than check Zin orientals paperwork !) Mike
