  1. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations or experience of groups in the area that might teach little ones cricket? We have a 3 year old who seems to be gifted at catching, hitting (he has been able to play swingball since 1.5) and catching - but most importantly he enjoys playing cricket with us in the garden and we think he might enjoy taking this further withh a group Have contacted dulwich cricket club but any ideas gratefully received! Thanks in advance.
  2. Crumbs... Errr. Moderator???
  3. Operation Big Wing Day, does sound a bit silly though. Sounds like it's just, 'talking to the parents of some badly behaved kids' - or 'doing the job of a community policeman' Which actually is desperately needed these days.
  4. If you can get a picture of them texting at the wheel and the number plate then I don't think you need much more, evidentially, for the police to take it up. Appreciate that's a minority but if you can get one idiot off of the road then it has to be worth the effort.
  5. or do as many cyclists do - some sort of camera taking hard evidence which you can then feed through to the police... Ultimately Southwark isn't going to do anything about it.
  6. I think it's a great idea to turn the whole of Southwark into a 20mph zone as hopefully it'll reduce accidents and make it safer for cycling. However, I'm finding it really stressful at the moment because it's not always clear. For example, what is the speed limit on Forest Hill Road outside the boys Harris East Dulwich school? Unless they are enforced with hidden cameras or police doing speed checks you'll always have some nutter diving up your bum trying to overtake in daft places. Please sort it out Southwark!!!
  7. I was told that the decision re catchment would be made around the Summer of 2015 so you have good time to figure out your other options ready for the 2015/2016 applications process. I don't think the new site is to be an infant school.
  8. Hi Henryb - the blurb seemed to suggest catchment up to Inverton road (assuming admissions measured from the existing Ivydale site). So despite living in Hichisson Road (not very far from the new site at all!) we'd be in real difficulty by the sounds of things!
  9. I went along - it was a really helpful set-up, and good to chat through some of the issues (and look at the proposed building!). I hadn't realised that being towards the Cheltenham road end of Nunhead my eldest stands (if admissions for the new site run from existing Ivydale) basically no hope of getting in. That would be a rather perverse scenario given that, by far, it's our nearest primary school. If that applies to anyone else, there is a form to fill in to voice your concerns!
  10. Nunhead for me... does that count?
  11. Quite a busy road and difficult to park at times (if you have a car). Surrounding roads just off Cheltenham road are nicer (I say that because we live off one of them!). Our report mentioned risk of flood which seems loopy as we're on top of a hill... I've never known it to flood (in 4 years).
  12. I'm with edcam. Pick up the poo in a bag, follow her home and repatriate it through her letterbox with an appropriate note.
  13. Fingers crossed it will go to Catford (where we are shortly moving to!!).
  14. Hi all, In a more practical question - is the Blythe Hill area of SE6 and SE23 very nice at all? We are looking to move out of our beloved Nunhead for more space (at cheaper price)! Any views welcome (particularly on schools and whether the area has/will improve)! Thanks!
  15. I live in Nunhead and to be fair, that bit around the station isn't particularly nice at night time. Were you looking at a place near the station or just worried about getting a train from there? I can't imagine, for instance, that general crime is any better in the surrounding areas but if the concern is purely about using the train station then I would go with your gut feeling.
  16. Is Nunhead getting expensive then?
  17. In response to Chickpea:- a) Normally one would apply the brakes - of course, if a pedestrian is mere feet in front of you then this will not help either party. Obviously it is also not particularly easy to move out of the way when this happens on a busy road which cyclists have to share with cars/buses. This happens with alarming regularity in Rye Lane b) Ringing the bell doesn't usually work in my experience. People either freeze or ignore it. Many also have headphones in etc. I would also add that people just don't seem to 'get' that bicycles have stopping distances too (which particularly suffer in the wet). I say all of the above as a pedestrian, cyclist and motorist.
  18. Absolutely horrible - sorry to hear that. What did the bloke/bike look like?
  19. There's a brilliant flute teacher called Karen Bertolaccini. I've worked with her for years. She's lovely, very reliable and is very good at getting students through grade exams if that's what they want to do - 07968619427
  20. Scallywags is brilliant! It's on Tuesday mornings during term time from 10am-11.30am and it meets at the scout hut by Dulwich golf course. It only costs ?1 and it's run by Grace Church Dulwich. The people are really friendly and there's real coffee and homemade cake with water and biscuits for the kids. There's a baby corner, lots of free play with clean toys and some craft activities. There's a short bible story and lots of singing too during the last 15mins. It's the highlight of my little boy's week.
  21. My 18 month old boy can play in the paddling pool for hours, especially if he has cups and bottles in there too. We bought one for ?3 from Tesco Direct. He also loves the little ball pit he has.
  22. Nunhead the next Peckham? Hardly. Nunhead is far nicer than Peckham (as a generality).
