Thanks very much ianr and ed_pete I have noted the questions you suggest. I feel far better armed I bumped into the foreman electrician the other day, who is still on site. He thought it could be an earth leak or that previous to the upgrade the cooker hadn't been within an RCD but that now it was. He didn't feel it was necessary for the cooker to be within the RCD but there wasn't time to go into detail. I'm awaiting an appointment but I am getting the feeling they hope I just go away as I'm getting the silent treatment from the contractor. I saw this link for anyone else learning the basics of electrics like me http://www.jlmelectrical.co.uk/my-rcd-keeps-tripping/ Regards
-
Hi ianr > The contractors electrician fitted the cooker whilst I was there to speak > to him. I oversaw his work and all was in order with the re-connection. By that I mean I wanted to be at home to see the cooker re-installed as my cooker has an old wiring system and I wanted to be clear about colour to colour compatibility as It is likely that I would need to uninstall the cooker myself to paint the floor under it and reinstall it again myself. I needed to remind myself with an old to new mixed installation : Red to Brown - live Black to Blue - neutral Green and yellow to green and yellow - earth I watched while he wired this connection up, which he did. I then turned on two of the rings, which warmed up and the system did not trip in the way I have described above. I have been loaned a hotplate which I operate from a socket in the lounge which was not in operation at the time. All seemed 'in order' when he and I were present Did he test the cooker, and did you see him doing so? He made no tests of any kind, other than me turning on two rings How extensive were his tests? As above, he made no tests of any kind. The site manager has booked an appointment for further tests of the cooker to try to ascertain where the fault lies. I would like though to gather some knowledge to go into discussion with the contractor so as not to be palmed off. Many thanks Regards

You are entirely right to point out the dangers of D.I.Y electrical work if you are not qualified

Thank you Uncleglen for your reply The contractors electrician fitted the cooker whilst I was there to speak to him. I oversaw his work and all was in order with the re-connection. You raise two important matters though. 1. The 30amp fuse How do I visually verify the Amperage of the fuse.ie, where is the fuse for me to inspect and confirm that it is 30A ? 2. the cooker is on a upgraded and rewired system. I think it is not on a separate system otherwise why would it trip the household sockets? Regards

The Columbians I have worked with in the past got their lunches from a Columbian restaurant on the 1st floor of the Elephant & Castle complex. They ate there daily as did I. I thought the food was delicious. -

I have had a kitchen refit with a wiring upgrade. My electric cooker was re-connected yesterday and I tried to cook on it but it trips out the sockets as well as itself. Today the contractor says there is a fault with my cooker which is causing the trip out and it's not their problem. There was nothing wrong with the cooker before and it worked perfectly. I appreciate it's difficult for an electrician to make a hard and fast comment on this without an inspection and test but could an electrician reading this confirm if this is possible ? Thanks

Hi Buddug Thanks for the link I have previously made F.O.I requests via the environmental department of Southwark Council rather than the link you gave and received a response although on reflection, perhaps your link is the more formal and official route. I hope though that my response was the same as you might expect from your request in terms of factual accuracy. Whether either of ours is legally binding and admissible in a court of law is another matter. Can anyone clarify this? -

Can I ask, the 10 days you say your F.O.I request has to run; is that to reply to your request with the information you have requested or to acknowledge your request from the initial date you made the request? Which Southwark Council department did you make the request to? -

I would counsel against going to social media at this point There will be a complaint procedures in place within the housing association and Southwark Council which need to be responded to within fixed time limits. It needs to be shown that this 'Due process' has been exhausted otherwise, should it go to law, a judge could through out the case if this process has not been gone through. It is also worth mentioning that if you want a Councillor to respond, they should be addressed by name with a direct question or questions -

If the properties to be demolished were tenanted by council tenants with secure tenancies, would the council not have a statutory obligation to rehouse these people ? -

I never let a browser store my password even for an email address password, however for some sites, even my bank, my browser doesn't automatically ask me, as does yahoo for example when signing into email. I am awaiting a written response from my bank regarding this. Thank you for your reply Loz

Apologies for going off thread slightly What are views about AVG free for online banking / purchasing ? Someone advised me not to use internet explorer at all for this kind of usage but to use Google Chrome for windows 7 Thanks for your thoughts

Have you had your gutters cleared if there is a 'T' downpipe that is blocked if you are in a terrace? Does your neighbour have a similar damp problem?

Hi Worldwiser A contact number for the F.O.I office for Southwark Council is 020 7525 0728, according to the poster I saw, should you wish to take up the matter of a 15 week wait. I wouldn't necessarily equate slowness of response to incompetence though, but rather to a hunger for information from F.O.I requestees, and the huge subsequent workload. -

Unless the timetable for a response to an F.O.I request has been re-timetabled due to heavy usage, a request should be responded to within 20 working days. I have seen this on a Southwark Council poster in a public library. Your ward councillors can inform you of the contact details of an F.O.I officer to look into this. 15 weeks is unacceptable. Were you informed about the response time in their acknowledgement of your request? -

Hello all Not a Dell PC issue as such but are any of you experiencing a repeated request from google to agree to data protection terms? I have clicked on agree previously but am receiving these requests every couple of days now and cannot proceed with google searches unless I click on agree . I am beginning to feel: a)If I click on agree, I am allowing a virus in or b) much like a), in that I don't want to adjust my preferences and so by agreeing to maintain my preferences as they are, I may be allowing a virus in Are any of you receiving these requests / demands ?
