former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Freddy1929 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
what happened to the extra pedestrian crossings that were going to be put on lordship Lane? Has the Council run out of money, or have they given in to motorists again? -
Hi I applied last year to be a Games maker at the 2012 Olympics, and after an extensive interview process! I have been offered the role of Print distribution Team member. I have to attend training and a Test event in November and I have been informed that my event at the Olympics next year will be at the Aquatic Centre. I'm chuffed as little mint balls, as I think the London Olympics is the greatest sporting event to happen in this country certainly in my life time( and yes I remember 1966, I was there!) Yes I know, its cost us all money, and what?s going to happen after the Games to all the venues? Will they be used? Who will make money? I know all the arguments but sometimes let?s support what will be a fantastic event, and enjoy!!!! Am I the only person who has volunteered to work at the Games? Everyone I tell, laughs at me, asks why am I doing it? By no means am I a supporter of David Cameron?s ''Big Society? but if peoples reaction to volunteering for the Olympic Games is anything to go by there is no chance of it working. People ask why am I doing it, using annual leave from work, and not getting paid? What a sign of the 21st Century, every thing being measured by pound notes. Sometimes what we gain from something we do does not have to involve a monetary return.

E.D.Station controlled parking zone
Freddy1929 replied to joobjoob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bit off the wall, I know, but why not ask your guests to use a bus or train, most kids I know see a trip on public transport as great fun becauce they travel by cars all the time. -
E.D.Station controlled parking zone
Freddy1929 replied to joobjoob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
you would be surprised - they park in Spurling Rd for the Station, and it's the other side of the roundabout at Goose Green! Can't wait for the Council to put CPZ in Spurling, I know, I know, I am the exception, wanting a CPZ and wanting to pay money to the Council!! -

DO NOT SPEED OR PARK ILLEGALLY and you won't get fined, so the Council will no longer need to fund Traffic Enforcement staff!!! everyone will be happy!! -
East Dulwich Flight Path No Planes today
Freddy1929 replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A friend of mine visited yesterday and was shocked at the lower height since his last visit. During a peak period he timed the interval between aircraft from 1minute to 1.20 for two hours. He had heard that Southwark are spending ?6 million on developments at Burgess Park. With Boris'Island still way back of the boiler and the third runway at LHR a no no, the thought struck him that the approach height is destined to become lower and Burgess Park will become the new runway. Was he serious? I am beginning to think he may have a point. -

37 Bus Route - good and bad comments please
Freddy1929 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A very handy Route, but appalling reliability! I have known the 37 route for a lot of years, and it has always had a reputation for poor service, yet it is a bus with a realy useful route. -
Drivers have a choice...................... don't park illegally................ don't drive in bus lanes.......... don't cross a junction, if your exit is not clear...... (all mentioned in Highway code?) AND YOU WILL NOT GET A FINE!!! and on top of that you will deprive Southwark of some very welcome cash!!!!!!!!! bless you all - because if you didn't park illegally - my Council tax would go UP!!

Did anyone hear Radio 4 this morning, the MOD has 'LOST' ?60million worth of equipment......they didn't mention a Chinook, but the MOD were unsure what/how the items went missing! I'm just going to ring MOD, they may need to raid Alleyn's....

I saw the Beekeeper on Friday in lordship lane ''catching'' the Bees (not sure if thats the correct word!) Seen this before, and the Beekeepers never wear any protective gear. What made me laugh on friday was some very tall lads, in their late teens, walked over from the cocktail bar oposite, looking very 'cool' but as the bees flew near them they ran off screaming and pulling their tops over their faces not so cool then!!

Virgin Media broadband not working
Freddy1929 replied to Heart108's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have BT Broadband, and it's fantastic it never goes down, I know it may seem a bit more expensive but well worth it. I also have BT Vision, worth every penny, better than Sky....... -
trees losing branches at top end of lordship lane
Freddy1929 replied to Miacis's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Near the Chener bookshop there is a hazard sign on a tree (not a big tree) which just says tree.......it seems it would have been better to cut off the branches that were hanging over the road!! -
Dulwich Baths Money Taker (Squib)
Freddy1929 replied to edhistory's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Years ago the Baths (I remember the Wells way Baths) were bath tubs with partitions and doors, the partitions and doors did not go up to the ceiling or down to the floor, and the baths didn't have taps, you had to shout 'more hot water in number 4' and if you were lucky the attendent would turn the tap on for a second!! There were also rooms were you could do your washing, as many of the tenements around Southwark had no water/sinks/toilets etc. -

One of the best B&W films I saw as a kid!! Stood in the cinema in the Old Kent Road many years ago to see it - in those days you could stand, Health & Safety had not been invented then........ -

If Southwark go to fortnightly collections for paper/glass/tins as well as residual waste, it will be madness. We fill up a box of glass/plastic as well as a box of paper each week, and as it's collected weekly at the moment it's OK. Isn't anyone from the Council looking at how much waste individual households are putting in their boxes/bags each week? -
Will not be long until we see photos on You Tube of Boris Bikes in the most unusual places.............................. great wall of China etc.....

Hi i know Southwark have collections of food waste in some areas now, is this being rolled out to other areas soon? I recycle glass, paper, tins etc and I live in a conveted house into 2 flats and we have two green househould waste bins, and I was talking to my upstairs nieghbour and we agreed that if Southwark collected food waste seperatly (weekly) we would only need one green weelie bin between us. -

Hi how is the plan for the two new crossings in lordship Lane going? I live just off the Goose Green roundabout and have recieved a consultation letter with a very good map, I have replied and fully support the plan, and I have got to say what a good map/plan it was, my comliments to the Council Officers who organise this sort of consultation, it was easy to understand. -
Yes what a place!! use to spend hours wandering around - could never afford anything though! ccould never understand why the developer was allowed to knock it down - now I think the front would be kept and flats built behind - thinking about it I seem to remember a large parking area infront of the shop.

I applied for tickets so I could take my Grandson.I decided on a morning session at the athletics stadium, heats only, and then an afternoon session in the Pool for water polo, heats only.So we would see both venues, but I did not get any tickets at all. I did think of applying for a lot more tickets, but I have a very small limit on my credit card, and the booking conditions stated the money must be avaiable in your account from May until June. It does seem unfair to me that someone who applies for ?35K, but gets ?11K worth of tickets and someone who applies for ?80 worth of tickets gets nothing (I know, before you all start - it was a lottery - and the odds are obvious!!!)listening to the guy, who got the ?11K worth of tickets, on Radio 4, he said he was contacted when he was allocated the tickets as there was not enough money on his Card!!! It didn't say anything on the Olympic site, that people would get time to pay!! I shall be glued to my TV during the Olympics, watching everything!! and if I see EMPTY seats at the two sessions I applied for, Lord Coe will be getting a very irate call from me!!!!!

Hi Is the proposal to have one or other of the two crossings option? Having looked at both plans, either would be great, both would be fantastic.
