  1. Carbonated sugar based drinks leave you feel disgusting afterwards. Bloated, sick, often dizzy with the sugar rush. This can only be a good thing. These drinks have their place of course, but the days of living of them and finding water disgusting are over. I think most people realise the health benefits of water of these types of drinks, now more than ever before. Louisa.
  2. I have a stock photograph of the Rye Lane Marks and Spencer shop front taken in the 1950's, but I am not allowed to share it without prior authorisation from the M&S archives. It's a lovely photograph too. Louisa.

Goodness me, why do all threads need to rear off topic? Louisa.
  4. Tremendous post rah, its gonna be great. Now getting back on topic, and by the way Rosie O'Donnell has said some tough things about me, the nasty woman, nasty nasty woman. *ok sign* Louisa.
  5. Passiflora, the shop near the post office selling curtains and towels I remember was called Pollards? Is that the name you were looking for? Louisa.
  6. apples Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I believe Holdron's was further up, I reckon where > Primark is now. The 'RONS' chimney in the > industrial park is the only thing left (I think). No, what was Holdrons is now part of Khans Bargains, before the railway bridge. The Bet Fred and Bargain furniture store on the corner of Bournemouth Road can clearly been seen in the picture you've just provided! Louisa.
  7. It seems an update of some description here; http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/65-sites-earmarked-development-new-southwark-plan/ "Dulwich New Charter School and health centre on the former Dulwich Community Hospital The vacant Grove Tavern to become a new care home, if a new pub, restaurant, or business doesn?t move in Up to 118 homes built on the Guys and St Thomas Trust Rehabilitation Centre site, with the requirement that a health facility of ?at least? the current size is retained" My heart sank when I read the bit about the Grove Tavern. Louisa.
  8. I toc can remember Rye Lane before it was left to rack and ruin after the channel tunnel re-route and collapse in property prices. Holdrons closed down in 1948 so is it any surprise most of us can't remember it? Jones & Higgins was around until much later, possibly mid-80's? Rye Lane was most famous for tailors when I was a child, the lane had so many of them it was hard to keep track. I also remember the record shops and the old fashioned J Sainsbury counter service shop (now occupied by Clarks shoes). Louisa.
  9. Could we get this back on topic please, quite a serious issue at hand here. Louisa.
  10. I've just checked the planning portal and no updates. What a mess the village is looking now. Various empty shops, no pub nor any sign of work going on to complete its refurb. Absolutely disgraceful. Louisa.

Right again. Louisa.
  12. I too would like to know the plans for this stretch. Interesting to note a new planning application has been re-submitted for the Londis unit on north cross/lordship corner. Worth a visit to the planning portal if you haven't already. If Londis are forced out due to some fancy chain restaurant coming in, I'd like to think they could relocate to another unit locally. A lot of us find Londis very useful. Louisa.
  13. It angers me beyond belief when I see parked vehicles with fumes pouring out the back. It's even worse when it's the council doing it. Many of us have lung and breathing issues in colder weather, exacerbated by pollution levels in London. Seeing people park up and leave the engine running idle is so offensive and anti social, it's socially rude not even consider those with health issues around you. Make it illegal. Louisa.
  14. Trump is indeed narcisstic, and extremely polarising. Not my favourite person, and I'm sure that's echoed by many on here. However, don't see the point in cutting off our nose to spite our face. If we are leaving the single market we will need as many friends willing to do trade deals globally as we can muster. Whether they be from unpalatable leaders of the free world, to countries in the developing world with untapped wealth who want to do deals with us. Surely personal opinions are put to one side for the greater good? Louisa.

  16. McDonald's. Rye Lane. Louisa.

Anyone know where I can order a case of red wine? Dry Jan is killing me. Louisa.

The polls have continued to shift in Scotland towards a majority in favour of remaining part of the union. As for people's opinions of finding an alternative way to remain part of the UK and the EU, split evenly down the middle at 40/41. It's easy to assume Brexit sees the end of the union, and notwithstanding the complexities of Northern Ireland (marginally addressed in May's speech), the situation is far more complicated than it at first seems. A game changer perhaps, but end of the union? Unlikely. Louisa.
  19. The point of democracy is to respect the decision made by the majority. Hard to swallow, or not. You deal the hand you've been dealt. I still regret my decision to vote leave, by I can still see why so many others decided it was the right decision for them. Wouldn't it be more constructive at this stage to fight for us to retain as much of the single market access and co-operation to get a deal that suits everyone, rather than have an ultimate aim to overthrow a democratic decision? Just a suggestion. Don't mean to offend. Louisa.
  20. The building itself is still under the ownership of the C of E, no? They just rent it out. Louisa.

    *Bob*

Where art thou *Bob*? I miss your endless sarcasm, banter and the Louisa dungeon isn't the same since you dug your escape route out to the bad lands beyond sunny East Dulwich. Are you back and in disguise? Are you wearing a false tash and Donald J Trump hair piece? Let everyone know where you are! Louisa.

Beer and snow! I too remember this day. I had a busy schedule and needed use of the bank which had somehow managed to close despite most of the staff living within striking distance of their work. I was absolutely furious, and then couldn't get any shopping because Somerfield had managed to close its doors too. An international city. Unable to deal with snow even down to the point where public transport had stopped and people were forced to walk into suburbia from the centre because even taxis wouldn't brave it. Yes it was a very memorable few days. Welcome to London, open for business (unless it snows!). Louisa.
  24. It's nice to see. One step at a time chaps. Louisa.
  25. Goose Green footpath. And it's just starting to snow outside now mixed with rain. Louisa.
