    Le Moulin

Sean I think that if the Plough has attracted a different sort of drinker, it may well attract people into Le Moulin for a meal after. But having said that, a lot of these younger people are not keen on a place if it doesnt fit the image or look like it gets a new coat of paint ever other week. We shall have to wait and see I think. Eric and Margaret would probably appreciate the new customer base, I know that they have taken on board a lot of what I told them about some of the comments on here. I would hate for them to change though, it's as if time stands still when I go in there.

Le Moulin gets very busy on friday and saturday nights, the best nights to go are monday, tuesday or wednesday.

Susyp, thankyou for your honesty, and I am glad you had such a wonderful experience. Perhaps a few other people on this forum who seem to harbor negative opinions about this place could now take the hint and try it for themselves. It isnt pretentious, and it is good quality.
  4. Huguenot it's quite remarkable the number of people who have these badges. I've seen 6ft plus tattooed gentlemen wearing shorts jumping out of vauxhall vectras with darkened windows with these so called disabled badges. It's shocking. I could tell you of at least four locations along Peckham High Street where these things are sold on the streets.
  5. Sean I agree with you there - if it's the law then it has to be adhered to regardless of what we all think. But I do think the current situation is ridiculous, and should be reviewed.
  6. No of course not, but the practical situation is quite simple.. I know lots of diabled people, and half of them do not choose to have these badges because as keef has pointed out already, relatives beg to use the badges when they are going out on a saturday morning. You simply cannot catch these people, they will do it anyway. If disabled people do not need these spaces, then lets stop being all warm and cuddly and socially responsible about it, and just abolish the whole damn thing. It obviously doesnt work, and it just adds to the tension of a shopping trip out for people who desperately need to park somewhere!
  7. Good grief what is this world coming to! It's wetter than a weekend in the Brazilian rainforest!
  8. My mother is 88, she drives, and she has been registered as disabled now for 25 years or more because of severe arthritis. She is still able to drive, and she would be quite happy to park slightly further away and give up her space for someone else. Then you come across the guy who has a fake disabled badge (VERY easy to get hold of), and he gets to park where he likes because no one ever checks these badges. The whole thing is a farce, those who deserve them dont want them, and those who want to flaunt the law park anywhere they like. Their really isnt any point in these special spaces. They make no difference at all!
  9. I dont get that. Jamie I quite agree that half of the disabled spaces around ED, and especially in supermarkets are an absolute farce. I do not agree that people should be fined for parking in them, especially in supermarkets, when on saturdays their is little in the way of parking for anyone. We all pay taxes, why should a disabled person have priority to park somewhere when others have to park miles away and walk. I am not being difficult here, I genuinely see no point in the majority of these disabled spaces, and for the life of me cant get why they take priority.
  10. I think Primark.. I mean White Stuff...
  11. A true local would know that the Lane refers to Rye Lane in Peckham, and always has done. I've never heard of a cafe going back that name on LL though?
  12. The lane has to be Rye Lane because it was the place to shop back in the 60s and 70s, lordship lane was basically nothing comparably back then..... I've always refered to Lordship Lane by it's full name back to topic..
  13. I think I may attend tonight (if you all dont mind).. I shall sit alone and you can call me over as and when you see fit.. i'm sure the eagle eyed amongst you will notice me from a mile off! (no comments about a sour faced old witch please) ;-)

    The Plough Pub

I've not had a fight in a pub since 1978, and that was in the Liberal Club in Bognor Regis.
  15. i'd say the Clock House.. (but it's not worth visiting just for a smoke outside TRUST ME!)

    The Plough Pub

Did people partake in sexual activities in the toilets there?
  18. They also had kennedys deli which I loved, but that has sadly closed down now, i'd love them to come to LL... Beckenham is a bizarre place, it has a Waitrose M&S and sainsburys all within less than half a mile of each other, along with an Odeon cinema a lidls food shop and a number of annoying chain pubs full of so called 'chavs'. Bizarre place, it even has a tory mp! It all confuses me..
  19. Beckenham is posh, and even they have lidl on the high street!
  20. I know Peckham twinned with a small village in Kent called East Peckham a few years back. This could be fun.. i'd quite happily do an exchange trip to a hotter Dulwich.

    The Plough Pub

Lets get this right, the people who go into pubs and start fights and cause problems are not working class drinkers... They are trouble makers... I remember drinking in many traditional working class pubs around London and the majority of people had a laugh, joke and didnt cause problems for others. I think the death of the traditional pub is what has caused this break down in society! The culture of Wetherspoons and clubs like Oceana and other pub chain clones up and down the country offering alchi pops 2 for the price of 1 and all this sort of rubbish, its just not good for anyone.

I was highly disappointed with the place. I love the interior decoration, and I love the food menu. However, I dont think this makeover will get rid of the yobs, and I cant see the place being restored to what it once was. Such a missed oppurtunity. :(
  23. we have a butchers, the bakers.. how about a candlestick makers?
  24. The base of the chimney stack are still in place behind a group of trees, and you can actually work out the expanse of the building. Below is a painting of the building from a different angle. It's well worth a wander on a sunday afternoon. http://www.ideal-homes.org.uk/images/southwark/peckham/peckham-rye-01683-750.jpg
  25. As a customer of the Woolwich for the past 20 years, I was sent a letter yesterday explaining that the final phase of the Barclays/Woolwich merger were taking place over the next few months and my local branch would be closing. Does anyone have any ideas what will be replacing the bank on LL? It is quite a big unit and has the potential to be anything from a restaurant to clothing outlet.
