Man in balaclava on Crystal Palace Road
Louisa replied to GtotheD4's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No reason to be walking around with a balaclava on. It's hardly a ski resort. Don't ever feel threatened by these people, never cross the road or act scared. Face them down, they'll think twice about approaching then. It makes me so mad to think people like this get away with this sort of threatening behaviour. Louisa. -
Foxy, I stayed with friends a few years ago in what used to be called Tiger Bay. They took us out for this lovely meal and I was shocked at just how much of a unique experience it was! The service, the ambience, the food being matched to certain wines. It really was just a unique experience and well worth the 65 quid per head if you're going in a big group. Maybe the EDF Curry Club could do a little weekend away to try it out? Btw the taster menu is 7 courses and you won't leave wanting a kebab, it's filling enough. Louisa.

KK it seems unlikely, but worth a punt if you can get delivery costs waived ;-) If you ever happen to be down in Cardiff, I would genuinely offer a solid review for this restaurant. Lovely people too. Check out their tri advisor ratings here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186460-d1425982-Reviews-Moksh-Cardiff_South_Wales_Wales.html Louisa.

There's a fabulous little contemporary Indian restaurant in Cardiff. It ditches the bog standard theme, and goes for a much bolder menu. Think it tries to blend modern European with one or two specific Indian regional cuisines. I'll find the website for you and edit the post. https://www.moksh.co.uk Louisa.

It would appear to me, that with the closing of the launderette next door and the Irish shop, along with the old closed down shop - something is afoot here for a larger business to move in to that whole stretch next to William Rose? Oh for goodness sakes malumbu don't get your nickers in a twist, the world is still turning and ED has survived without an Iceland for a good few months now. Life goes on regardless of a potential nuclear holocaust on the horizon. Or maybe we should dwell on the end of the world coming? What a cheerful old bunch we are on this forum. Louisa.

Absolutely NOT. I was unhappy at the loss of a a lordship lane institution yes, but the million page thread involved councillors and other stakeholders and was drawn out for at least 4 years. It got to the stage of even people like me saying get on with it then if you're gonna do it. Camberwell doesn't kick up such a fuss, around here it was like the bloody second coming! Louisa.

Well sort of.. I have been in and out of Kings College Hospital the past few weeks and there are signs everywhere saying that a new M&S simply food shop will be opening inside the hospital on March 17th. No fuss, unlike the song and dance caused in ED when Iceland was exterminated. Louisa.

An awful lot of elderly people do too, and I think being vulnerable these scammers know this and are therefore more likely to use these tactics to target those people. I'm constantly receiving phone calls where no one answers or they ask me strange questions. Louisa.

Give me rough around the edges Penge over Trendy foodie Brixton any day of the week! Useable high street shops, a decent boozer, and plenty of places to eat that won't cause your bank balance to sigh. Louisa.
-
Brixton has always been diverse for its eateries, it's just people from certain postcodes chose not to venture into those places because it wasn't 'cool' to do so back then. Now it's become quite a generic place, boring even. Peckham is next in line for the Brixton treatment, in fact it's already well underway. Louisa.

My positive shout out is to the young lady who helped me order a coffee at the services earlier today. Don't often go into a McDonalds, and certainly never used a self service touch screen super dooper thing before. FYI the coffee was crap (as expected). Louisa.

The chicken was froxen, defrosted overnight in the fridge. I have a feeling it couldn't have been fully defrosted when I cooked it, and the bloody water was a consequence. Lesson learnt, However, I didn't get food poisoning and have just returned from three nights break on the Devon/Cornwall border. Doris has not been my friend today, 11 hours to get back home. Ridiculous. Louisa.

I have just cooked a chicken for two hours (average size in a fan assisted oven). The skin is crispy and the breast meat is cooked through, but after laying on the carving plate dark red coloured juice is pouring out from the front of the bird. Is this normal? I don't know what to do, any help much appreciated! Louisa.

More interesting to me at this time, is the question of the island of Ireland. Part of this island remains part of the United Kingdom, and following on from the Good Friday Agreement, it remains absolutely imperative for reasons of peace and democracy that no 'hard border' ever returns following Brexit. Will this happen? Who knows. Currently everything is open to discussion for negotiation with the EU, but for the Northern Irish population this really is the most important issue to arise for many years. At the moment it feels as though we will potentially be stepping back in time, and as we all know the fragility of peace in the north of Ireland is a constant threat to all stakeholders in the peace process. Secondly, the Irish Republic. We are there second largest trading partner, last year they exported $16.3 billion of services and goods to this country, 12.7% of their national total (United States was first). If we leave the single market, where does this leave the trading deal between us and them? It's become a hot topic over there too, with some even suggesting there should be a 'Irexit'. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jan/03/ireland-should-not-rule-out-leaving-eu-says-ex-diplomat-ray-bassett Not to mention the simple fact that many hundreds of thousands of Brits and Irish citizens live in each propestive country, and have family ties too. Where will this leave us with our closest neighbour and reliant trading partner post Brexit? Louisa.

Rats amid filth surrounding Sainsburys car park
Louisa replied to grancabrona's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nothing wrong with having a pampered pussy. Ferrel pussys are far more likely to be ravenous and go on the rampage, causing untold damage. Louisa. -
And Blair isn't alone in that aspect. Many of the pro leave Tories also fall into this category. Louisa.

Whilst I agree that people can't be held responsible for where they were schooled, what that individual chooses to do afterwards with that education,is the key difference between Attlee and Blair. Attlee was the father of the welfare state, a decent principled man who helped a war ravaged nation back on its feet. Not even a whiff of career based narcissism about him. Blair took a very different path, courting spin doctors and adopting Tory light policies to win numerous elections. For me, politics is about using your education to better the greater good of the masses, and not self indulge your own interests. Louisa.

Anyone know when Turtle Bay will be opening their new branch in Peckham? A planning application went through but no news yet. Also, the mini Sainsbury's in Dulwich Village will NOT be going ahead. Dulwich Society says the estate is actively looking for a permananent supermarket option, but an extension will be added at the back to give more shop floor space. In the meantime a pop up boutique, independent, will be taking on the space. Louisa.

Blairs intervention won't change the result of the referendum, nor will it encourage sensible moderate debate. What it will do, quite successfully IMO, is further isolate northern heartland voters who wanted 'OUT', and potentially lose Labour two by-elections in the coming weeks. Blair can't resist sticking the knife in, when it comes to the Labour Party. Louisa.

There's a bigger branch of the same vet in Penge with a big Sainsbury's with car park opposite side of road. Louisa.

New French Restaurant On North Cross Road
Louisa replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mick Mac and Jeremy, you know damn well that Le Moulin was a fine FRENCH restaurant, Eric was a Frenchman for goodness sakes. They provided many regional specialities, most of which would be unrecognisable to most 'supposed' forum connoisseurs of authentic French cuisine! Anyhow, this isnt the time or place to be digging at long gone successful institutions. I'm not willing to go into the menu options here, you are both fully aware of Le Moulin and it's superb menu. Louisa.
