Beautiful flowers being picked and walked on.
Louisa replied to loni's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is such a terrible shame that we are revisiting this same topic close on 7 years from my first post about this very issue. Saw some brats running around picking the daffs on Goose Green a few days ago, parents encouraging the behaviour. I was in my car so couldn't react beyond a hoot of the horn. Very infuriating when this sort of brazen ignorance is displayed in such a public way. Some gorgeous displays on show this Spring too, be warned pickers tredders and enablers. If I see you, your dog or one of your little darlings picking any wild flowers the wrath of Louisa will come down on you. No more flower murders! Louisa. -

But isn't that part of the problem? Big chains will always start serving the food in new ways to hide the fact that the food tastes like shite. This is why I don't do big chains that sit comfortably in the middle of the market, serve up dross and charge for it too. I get the whole street food thing, but when it decides to leave that part of the market and go into a restaurant environment the costs start to stack up and this is why I don't agree with them. The sit down experience has been murdered by street food expanding into the sit down market. Ingredients great yes, but in house experience awful. Louisa. -

Never been to Angus steakhouse and every time I've gone to the Harvester it's been served on plates. I was more referring to the street food type places which are now jumping into the sit down, semi casual dining experience. Louisa. -

The death of plates in restaurants as a result of street food rubbish is one reason I don't like eatin out much anymore. Garlic bread served on a old wheel trim isn't my Idea of appetising. Louisa. -

Sue I think it's great that we still can host so many independent restaurants, regardless of their menu type and offering. Many high streets do not have any restaurants at all. Better to have another Indian rather than a generic chain. Louisa. -

Has it all fallen through? Let's hope xoco is continuing as a Indian restaurant. Louisa. -

I have chalked a few sauces and so far there is no 100% accurate figure in the earths human populous, so can we stop all the bickering when it's obvious none of us are completely accurate. I do genuinely believe the human population is closer to 4.7 than 7.4, but let's just agree to disagree. Can we get this back on topic please. Louisa. -

Foxy is indeed correct. There are 4.7 billion people on earth, I just checked on Wikipedia. Now stop with this awful goading. Facts are facts. Louisa. -
titch juicy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And saying that demographics change and areas > change accordingly and always have done in London > is such a cheap, cop-out answer. But Peckham has changed more than once in my lifetime, and will continue to do so. And your argument about what if wealthy Africans moved to ED and transformed the area doesn't stack up. Peckham was predominantly white working class in my youth and many of the shops moved away as the demographic changed in the neighbourhood. So you could argue that those people were displaced using your argument? The truth was, those people moved onto new things and the Afro-Caribbean community took over shops which otherwise would have been derelict and empty, and those shops have served that community of Peckham for a good 25 years plus now. This new wave of hipsters or arty types who've moved to Peckham are taking on abandoned buildings and breathing life into them too. The council are just taking advantage of the fact this new wave of demographic is younger and it's encouraging a nighttime economy in the area, and they want to spruce up the station to take advantage of this new reputation. The neighbourhoods of big cities do change, and with the greatest will in the world we can't stop that from happening, as much as some of us, bang on about it all the time on here (the G word btw in ED). Louisa.

Peckham has undergone change before and will undergo change again. Highs and lows in a neighbourhoods social/economic status aren't really news. In the mid 90's the threat of the channel tunnel rail link saw various chains ditch Rye Lane and property values collapse. A change of heart on that issue came and went, and most of the salons and butchers/fishmongers you see in Peckham today didn't arrive until the early to mid 90's when leases could be snapped up at bargain basement prices. At least these businesses are being offered an alternative venue, often times small businesses are just told to get on with it. Louisa.

I'm not a hypocrite, I've never visited PeckhamPlex nor have I visited Picturehouse, I have visited other establishments who's LLW status I am unaware of. In principal I support the LLW, but I'm not going to pretended it's something I think about every time I walk into a shop/restaurant. Others on here will go or of their way to reinforce their ethical credentials, then be sneaking into places such as Picturehouse and saying how fabulous it was. Louisa.

I am very straightforward too. It's often my downfall. You know as well as I do, Foxy sometimes goes off on a tangent, innocently and never offensively, and yet you goad him for answers when it isn't necessarily needed. That's my conclusion, but anyway let's drop it now. Louisa. -

There are people on this thread rendal, who openly talk about patronising this establishment, and yet on other threads like to wear the 'ethical hat'. I'm not making it up to suit my argument, it's true. I just find it painful to listen to certain people praising this cinema on the one hand, then talking about how they care about workers rights on other threads. You can't be a socialist when it suits, if you care about social justice then it should be in every thread of your being, not just when the moment is right. Louisa.

I don't wish to get too involved here, but I do struggle with the double standards of some people who move to places like East Dulwich (I'm not singling anyone here btw). Lots of people on this forum begged, nay pleaded, for this cinema to come here and open up (as they did M&S). I remember at the time saying that it would force more families on a low income out of the area for things to do because of high prices and yet everyone jumped at me and accused me of stirring up class hatred, that was never the intention. We have a lovely independent cinema on our doorsteps just a brisk walk away and so many people are rude and critical about it on here. Do you realise how lucky you are to have such a cheap and well run resource on your doorsteps in Peckham? But no, you choose to use a chain in ED. Then when the moment suits, the ethical hat is worn and everyone's up in arms about the LLW and how awful picturehouse is. Why did you spend months begging them to come here if you knew about what was happening at Brixton Ritzy? Why do you still go there on the quiet but then come on here telling them off about how awful they are for the way they treat workers? Now THAT is hypocritical. Louisa.

I'm happy with > Oddono's. Each to their own. Don't think anyone associates any of the above with the cinema in Peckham, but hey some people like to think they're better than everyone else by going to a poncy cinema and poncy ice cream shop so they can feel good about themselves. And guess what, that's fine too! Just admit, rather than putting down people who might want to save a few quid rather than waste it on trying to be seen spending money. Very absurd behaviour. Louisa.

Some folk on this forum just can't resist winding poor Foxy up. It's not fair to constantly call him up about everything he says when others do exactly the same thing. Many of us are absolutely worn out with all this constant bickering. Some of us just want a nice peaceful afternoon browsing the forum for some intelligent conversation, but others just love a good old finger pointing session. Totally uncalled for. Some growing up needs to be done me thinks! Louisa. -
Man in balaclava on Crystal Palace Road

Hahahaha Louisa. -
I haven't been to either option but I would go to PeckhamPlex every day of the week over Picturehouse. Cheaper, bigger capacity and you can grab some food in McDonalds nearby which won't break the bank! Who wants to spend the best part of ?20 on a cinema ticket (not to mention the food costs) per person. Craziness. Louisa.

Eyes on the prize everyone please. This thread is about Swedesh. I've searched the planning portal to no avail, it does seem suspicious to me that a whole row of shops are now empty in a prime retail spot sandwiched between a cinema and a successful butchery. Does anyone have more information on this? Do Parkhill own those buildings? Louisa.
