  1. Seems to be a new game on Lordship Lane today as my OH has just returned from the bus stop having been attacked with considerable amounts of tomato sauce squirted from a moving car. He was too busy trying to work out what they had done to take down any details but has had to have a complete change of clothes before he can venture back out to the bus stop and head into town.
  2. Dear James Are there any rules about visual pollution? The real estate agents seem to leave their For Sale or To Let/ Let By signs up for months, even after properties have been let and/or sold. Lordship Lane is a awash with the wretched things, especiLly between Heber Rd and The Plough. Thanks
  3. Wow thanks for all the responses. @minder I am a regular 5-6 books a week person but the ebooks offering at Tower Hamlets meant that I could also have a book on my phone for those times when I didn't have a book with me - stuck on the tube, longer wait than usual at the doctors etc. Being able to search the catalogue via the web, from work, home or on my mobile phone also meant I did not have to turn up and queue to see if a book I wanted was in. It's a shame that the library cannot become the heart of the community again and if Tower Hamlets can do it then surely Southwark can? I do agree with the comments about the library stock and staff though - just because you are part-time does not mean you cannot be customer or user-focused. Times have changed and people want libraries that embrace the multi-cultural, multi-purpose offerings that reflect the local community. It used to be a real blast going into the Tower Hamlets libraries and seeing little kids learning their native languages, whilst older folk were being taught how to use the internet and middle aged women like me could pop in a grab a couple of novels. People oriented, friendly, happy spaces.
  4. Recognising that Southwark is not exactly a council that is rolling in dosh, can someone please explain why the library services are so bad? We came here from Tower Hamlets, one of the poorest councils in London, yet their libraries are thriving community centred buildings with classes, regular events, study rooms, and superb online services and digital offerings inclusion ebooks for iPads & kindles you can borrow. Using the library services in Southwark, Dulwich in particular, is like going back 30 years. How do school kids, small businesses, new migrants, book lovers, parents, cope with what's on offer in Southwark?
  5. FANTASTIC FORUM SUPPORT - to the kind folk who live at 100 numbers less than us on Lordship Lane, we got our shoes today thanks to my post on here last night. Nice to know the there are still honest people around. Really appreciate getting our shoes.
  6. Anyone in Lordshop Lane received a delivery package from SportsDirect via Yodel containing 2 pairs of new running shoes - one white, one black? We are stuck in a timewarp of hell - "use the online tracker to show where your delivery is" "Yes but it's showing as delivered and we haven't got it nor do any of our neighbours" "But according to our records order has been delivered'. And of course, our bank account has already been debited the funds... Hope we find them soon! Any suggestions?
  7. We live in an older place divided into 4 flats, each with separate entrances. We are the closest to the road and often get all the post for the entire building shoved through our letter box. Last week we had confidential medical letters plus a credit card (you could feel it) for one of our neighbours. I have rung Royal Mail several times but reckon the postmen take one look at our place and decide it's too hard walking up the others' steps.
  8. Interesting feedback on the NHS site - http://www.nhs.uk/Services/GP/PatientFeedback/DefaultView.aspx?id=43499
  9. suggest you ask a couple of the real estate agents in LL - they will know who owns most if not all of the property in the area.
  10. Just been searching Twitter for things on East Dulwich and found an entire feed scrapping the forum under the Twitter name @tweetsdulwich. Seems to be tweeting the posts and linking to here. Is this legit?
  11. Don't know if it will be the traffic or the people who will be the problem. Spent most of the past week in and out of ED via LB and most issues arise when non-Londoners stand on the right on the escalators or stop dead in front of you with a map. Nearly poleaxed someone as I was going down the escalators at a pace and she backed out into the right side of the steps to talk to a mate. Really going to need lots of patience over the coming weeks......
  12. Hi Just moved to ED and looking for a book group. Is this group accepting new members? If so, when and where do you meet? I see you have the next book already - Love in the time of cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marques so I can get cracking on that! Thanks Jane
  13. Brilliant in Lordship Lane down the Dulwich Library end. Was using my 3 'all you can eat' data plan on my phone to tether wirelessly to use the internet on my laptop and work from home when we were waiting for BT to install our new broadband. Couldn't believe the connectivity and I was using it to make calls at the same time.
  14. Not all ED residents are nappy changers, unless you are on about the grandkids! We've just moved here, and know others who are moving or have just moved, and we are in our 40s and looking to enjoy the community village feel that ED offers. We are all movie goers AND we watch films on our ipads, via laptops hooked up to the tv etc. I would love to see a theatre showing films in ED
  15. Hi we are having terrible trouble finding a telco/internet provider that can supply us a landline and internet connection before the end of Sept. Anyone recommend a provider? So far we've been told by two telco's that East Dulwich is key to the Olympics and therefore no further work will be completed til the end of all the games..... Anyone with any ideas on how we can be connected in the meantime? Thanks
