  1. The original poster is 13 years old. She lost her phone and it hasn't been returned (and we all know how easy it is to do that if you really want to). Yet some people still choose to criticise her and not the person / people who have dishonestly kept it. Very confusing. The comment about the gypsy may have been inappropriate but once one person has raised it is there any need for it to be commented on again and again and again, especially given her age? The comments of some people on this forum only discourages the community spirit that the EDF is meant to promote.
  2. Perhaps that is why I've got a broadband / tv / phone outage too? Fingers crossed everyone is ok and they get it sorted as soon as possible.
  3. That's a shame. We've already got a couple of independent shops selling good quality wine and beer.
  4. It sounds like the ED Picturehouse are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they reduced prices so that they were more competitive with the Peckhamplex they would be criticised for taking away business. If the new cinema maintains prices in line with its other cinemas (Clapham, Brixton, Hackney) they are criticised for not being within everyone's budget. I'm really excited about the cinema opening and hope that it will put on events that encourage everyone in the community to get involved. Re the hoardings - do we even know if the artists were paid?
  5. For those wanting to get to Denmark Hill buses are running from the Elsie Rd stop. According to the signs at the bus stops there are also buses running from Barry Rd too though might be useful if someone else could confirm this?
  6. So disappointed I missed this but very pleased to hear that reaction has been so positive. I'm one of the people that regularly travels to the Ritzy (by car) and would walk to this one so I also agree with their theory re traffic. Fingers crossed!

    The Patch

We went on Wednesday and had a great meal - 5 courses between us and alcohol for just over ?60. I thought the food was great and the house white was very drinkable too. The service was also spot on - the gentleman who served us has worked with Keri in her Selfridges restaurant (and other locations as well I think) and obviously knew a lot about the food he was serving. I really like the work they've done inside as well. It had quite a cosy atmosphere the other night and there was a good turn out. Re the other post that said tiny portions - ours definitely weren't tiny and we had a very good sized option of chips that kept us both happy. I'll definitely be going back and am looking forward to trying out their weekend brunch.

Also there is > the fleapit in Peckham that the ED film club use. > Further reason why a cinema is not needed, nor > should it have been wooed by 1 local politico. Nor > will it keep yoof off the streets. Arguments for > it are ridiculous IMO. I'd like to go somewhere local that isn't a fleapit to watch a film. Also, I don't think that saying the space could be used as a police counter is a useful comparison - it's not a matter of someone inviting the cinema and not the police to use the space and in any event, as has already been pointed out, it's far too big. I think it would be great to bring something new to the area - ie not another pub / coffee shop etc.
  9. Wow, very exciting! James - how can we keep ourselves updated about this (not expecting you to post regular updates).
  10. How sad that it's been taken. I love the murals, although they're not all to my taste, I like the colour they add to the area. The fact that the tours bring lots of people to the area is a real bonus for local businesses. Ingrid - I've noticed the mushrooms but didn't know what the story behind them was - can you help?

    The Patch

Why not go and visit when they are up and running - then you'll be able to form a valid opinion on what they're doing (as opposed to relying on websites / twitter feeds / EDF etc). I'm sure that in the long time they have been trying to get this off the ground they have had to make some changes along the way. That would also give you the opportunity to ask them some questions in person, and give them some feedback - I'm sure they would love to hear how they could improve things and encourage more people to go and eat. I also think that its best they steer clear of this thread. Most of it isn't about The Patch anyway! I really hope it is a success and wish them all the best.
  12. I found this booklet quite useful when I was dealing with the Party Wall Act. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/207310/Party_Wall_etc._Act_1996_-_Explanatory_Booklet.pdf If works are being done without notice being served then you can either contact Southwark or get in touch with a surveyor who will be able to email you a letter that you should give them asking them to stop works whilst the matter is being considered. I also found Southwark very helpful when it came to Building Regs and planning.
  13. I got my shutters from Shutters Up having had quotes from them together with Aafordable Shutters and Shutterly Fabulous. Although all 3 were very professional and friendly, Shutters Up were the most reasonable and I was also impressed by their service and attention to detail when quoting, discussing details with me that neither of the other companies did. www.shuttersup.co.uk
  14. No trains at all from Peckham Rye at the moment either :(
  15. Yes I've done the same. If you ring that number you can register for text updates. The text I've just received says there is a blown fuse at our local substation.
  16. Yes I'm in darkness on Jennings Road too. No info as yet but will post if I get any.
