  1. and while you're at it, why don't you ask plod to have a crack at arresting some of the drivers who use their phones whilst tearing around south london in speeding hunks of metal glass and plastic. you know, the sorts of people that account for in excess of 2000 deaths annually in the UK.

    Hipsters

apropos of this tiresome conversation being a bit 20 fking 12, i'll just copy pasta this here and everyone can go home. apols if pearoast. ----snippy---- ?Hipster? is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else?s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself. It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker. Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you?ve probably sensed the pattern on your own). You can?t define what ?that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle? actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That?s because you don?t use ?hipster? to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you. The twist, of course, is that if it weren?t for your own insecurities, nothing that a ?hipster? could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - ?Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I?m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!? - so you project those feelings. Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, ?ironic? Them. ----snippy---- /thread
  3. what a load of specious shit. try again.
  4. it is not illegal to 'weave' in and out of traffic, it's called filtering. cyclists ARE traffic.
  5. "Most of the people carrying the torch are people who have served their community in some way (mostly in a voluntary capacity)." like will.i.am and jedward? mmm, hmmm.
  6. ah yes - they 'olympic torch' relay. a carefully orchestrated moveable feast for slavish proles in the provinces to ooh and aah over thereby creating the illusion that good ol' common folks actually give a rats ass about this vulgar excuse for corporate facism. no suprise the tradition originated at the 1936 Berlin games.
  7. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hear Hear confiscate the bikes! how? by whom? following what legal precedent?
  8. also - barclays branded ken bikes are not allowed within a half mile radius of the olympic site as they havn't paid seb 'shuddering f_u_ckwit' coe and LOCOG millions of squids in sponsorship bungs, like Lloyds has.
  9. why stop at moaning about cyclists riding on pavements when you can also bang on tiresomely about them not stopping at red lights, always overtaking me, wearing lycra, not wearing helmets, not wearing a hi-viz jacket, not having enough lights, 'nearly' killing you while you were trying to cross the road and not paying bloody 'road tax'? /as stated up-thread, riding in the olympic lanes will attract a PCN, which can only be issued by civil enforcement officer, so to all intents and purposes, you can ride your bike in LOCOG's Zil lanes with utter impunity. in the unlikely event that you are asked to stop, just refuse to supply any details to any fake bacon that asks for it - nod, smile and carry on your merry, and safe way.
  10. stop listening to LBC. it will give you cancer.
  11. the Grosvenor in St Ockwell - OG punk venue that also has regular folk nights and much more besides. great beer and smokin' hot bar staff.
