  3. It was all too good to be true. The 8:10 arrived and departed EDW on time. It made it to South Bermondsey, whereupon it is currently stuck as the driver is "unable to release the brakes". If you're on a service behind us... sorry!
  4. Four carriages again on the 08:30 this morning. Plenty of passengers stranded. Another ?2 Oyster charge for tapping in and out at the same station, before nipping on a bus (another ?1.60), train to Victoria and tube. Just as well there's a PAYG price cap. If the 08:10 service turns up, full length, on Monday, I will applaud it into the station, cheering wildly.

I was one of those who couldn't board at 8:30. Previous train at 7:30, then the 8:30 rocks up only half-length. I'd noticed this on the signage and tactically stood in the front half of the platform, but it was already rammed, probably leaving some stranded at North Dulwich too. Walked up to Denmark Hill and got in to Blackfriars instead. For the priviledge of entering and exiting the same station, I also got charged ?2 to my Oyster Card, which I then have to chase for a refund. Had I taken the bus up Dog Kennel Hill, that'd have been another ?1.60, too. The ridiculousness of this situation is that there's no accountability and feels like we have next to no recourse.

Does anyone here take this service through to London Bridge, or is there some confusion?

The current system makes nobody happy. A one-way approach would, at least, kill off the inumerable natural contraflows that are created during the rush, and reduce a lot of huffing and puffing.
  8. Would someone who takes the 8:02 from EDW mind clarifying... does this secretly carry on to London Bridge, or terminate at South Bermondsey as advertised? Was tempted to leap on this morning, but didn't fancy getting stuck.

Not really good enough. For what it's worth, at just before 8am the 40 took around 45 minutes from the Picturehouse/Police Station stop through to Monument. In the past when I've taken it, it's been an hour +/- 10 minutes, so this was around the quickest experiences I've had. It helps a lot that the works at E&C are 'finished' these days. I was expecting it to be horrendous, but it was manageable. Am going to run in tomorrow, and then try walking up to Peckham Rye and taking the Thameslink from there, just to compare experiences, and then settle on a regular plan come the end of the week.
  10. Leapt on to a 40 outside the cinema. Was already full by the time we picked up at Goose Green. We didn't strand too many at the station though, perhaps only 20 people waiting, so perhaps the message got through to most.
  11. Five years ago they were at 03, 15, 27, 33, 45 and 57. They did briefly go to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 00 before all the LBG works kicked in and began to terminate services at South Bermondsey.

  13. Well, the buses up to Denmark Hill are already a lottery from North Cross Road onwards. There is a viable option to walk (ten minutes from EDW to DMK if you're relatively able-bodied), but of course the services at Denmark Hill are going to suffer huge knock-on consequences. Many commuters from Peckham Rye will surely switch to the Thameslink route, and by Denmark Hill that'll be rammed, too.
  14. I'm nervous. Southern's new timetable page is on their website, here. Here's the new map, colour coded to indicate changes. Timetable #32 (the Beckenham route) suggests that no trains will start/terminate at Beckenham, but that trains servicing West Norwood, Crystal Palace and Gypsy Hill will continue in to Victoria Timetable #33 (the West Croydon route) suggests that the same trains will run as they have done in recent months There is no posted timetable for the Wimbledon route (at least, not that I can find). The timetable page states: The inference I'm making here is that we will be down to two trains per hour - those to/from West Croydon. That would be a drastic reduction in service. Their journey planner isn't going to be updated until tomorrow, so until then we're reliant upon digging the info out ourselves. That being the case, the new commuter services into London Bridge would be as follows: from North Dulwich: 6:53, 7:27, 8:27, 9:28 from East Dulwich: 6:55, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 from Peckham Rye: 6:58, 7:33, 8:33, 9:34 There is also an additional service which terminates at South Bermondsey: NDW 7:57, EDW 8:02, PMR 8:09 Notice that some of those services allow extra time between NDW and EDW than they used to (up to five minutes) and between EDW and PMR (up to seven minutes) The services back home from London Bridge would depart LBG at: 16:10, 16:40, 17:11, 18:08, 18:51. Yes, you've read that right, basically one train an hour. The off-peak service is actually more frequent than the peak service. Someone please tell me I'm mistaken.
  15. I don't live on MG or any of the adjacent streets, but do walk through it to the station (and back) every day. The stretch between EDG and the station appears to be nice, quite typical of the sort of street of terraced houses that is common to East Dulwich. The primary differences that make MG stand out, in my view would be: 1) traffic - it's definitely a ratrun at times and can be a pain navigating through. I don't own a car, but if I did would consider this a pain. 2) parking - as per the above, there is a severe lack of it. that said, there's a lot more parking in front yards that have been converted than most streets, perhaps a reaction to the lack of parking itself. That the yards have enough space to park is a plus in my view. Most streets don't. 3) environs - the pavements feel wider than many of the other streets, and the trees (particularly the ones with blossom at the station end) are generally nice 4) safety - I've never felt unsafe walking through there, in the four years that I have 5) businesses - the part of the street beyond the kink definitely invites a different type of visitor to the street (compared with, say, Derwent Grove). More vans etc. 6) public transport - the proximity to the station and also both the 40/185/176 and 37 routes is a major, major plus I actually think that MG is quite different to most of the residential streets in ED, but still as nice.
