  1. But those aren't bindweed flowers, are they?

  3. I think it must have been the same man/dog in North Cross Road early one morning a few weeks ago. One would have needed a shovel to pick it up, and a supermarket carrier bag to contain it! Luckily there was a man inside Pretty Traditional, getting the place ready, so he was able to fill a bucket with hot water and flush it away into the gutter (actually, it took two bucketfuls). Perhaps posting about it on the forum might lead to the man being identified, and made aware of the the nuisance he is causing.
  4. I believe there's a good place near the hospital.
  5. Do they work for adults? (not the sheep ones, of course!)

  7. Plus ca change .......
  8. Exactly where it's always been!! But we must all make sure that we make full use of it - I gather that the new rent is considerably more than it used to be. So they need all the custom they can get.
  9. Does Kings have some sort of arrangement with other local hospitals (Lewisham, for instance)? It shouldn't be too difficult to courier the stem cell material, surely?
  10. There was a most moving item on today's One Show about stem cell donation, and how difficult it can be to find a match. If you go to to the Anthony Nolan Trust website you will see how to register your interest. It seems a wonderful thing to do, and it would be a lovely way of asking your baby's birth extra significant.
  11. Whenever it's possible I use the cash-back facility at the Co-op. It means waiting to be served by a real human checkout assistant, but it's worth it for the peace of mind. I sure that Sainsburys and Tesco do cash-back as well - worth checking.
  12. I had my first at 42 and the second at 45. The big advantage was that "because of your age" I had to have consultant care, and could choose which A-rated hospital I fancied. As it happened, I didn't need any special care, but it was nice to know it was on tap!
  13. I'd always assumed that the xxxxx's were a sign of affection.
  14. Would it be rude to ask where all these classes will take place?
  15. If you google Herne Hill School uniform you'll find a link to the parents' handbook. Full uniform info is in the appendix at the end.
  16. There's a bailiffs' notice on the door saying that they have been given 14 days to clear their stuff out of the building.

Topps Tiles do a pretty convincing range of little black/white or black/brown tiles, with border patterns to match, for an affordable price, and surely it can't be beyond anyone who can tile a wall or a floor to use them to tile a Victorian style path?

    Water meters?

We've just had a water meter fitted. It took most of the day, but it was all done outside (on the pavement) and they only switched our supply off for a couple of hours, so the whole process was very painless. But we live in a house - a flat might prove more complicated.
  19. I don't understand why the Virgin service is so very patchy. We had it installed when we moved here eighteen months ago and have only had a couple of very minor problems with it, both of which were sorted out very quickly. In fact, one of them turned out to be something to do with the settings on my iPad, and it turns out that they have a special unit somewhere that knows about such things and talked me through putting it right. And yet someone a few streets away experiences something quite different. Can someone who understands all this IT stuff explain why this should be so?
  20. When we lived near St Albans there was a wonderful shop called "Outgrown" that sold baby/child stuff. I equipped both my children with everything (clothing, pram, pushchair, toys ....), and sometimes I'd even sell things back to them. I know that rents round here are extortionate, but I'm sure that people would beat a path to the door if someone opened a similar shop round here, even if it had to be in an out-of-the-way (and cheaper) position.

  23. Just a thought - when Runcent Joinery move out of their current premises, might it be possible to persuade the developers to include a shop in their plans .........?
