  1. That looks most promising - thanks very much, Fleur.
  2. I have unearthed a small pile of assorted tapes that date back to the 1960s, and would love to know what?s on them (there?s a chance that one of them is my late grandad reminiscing about the trenches in WW1). However, I don?t have the equipment on which to play them. There are two 7? whoppers (EMITAPE magnetic recording tape), three 5? (Sony high density video tape for helical scan video tape recorders) and four 3? (Agfachrome super8) I?d be very grateful if someone could suggest where I might go to get them transferred to DVD.

If the practice I?m registered with is anything to go by, the doctors must be very well paid indeed! Come to think of it, how is their pay calculated - is it by the number of patients on their list, or the number they see? (And where exactly is the Lister clinic?) .
  4. Can anyone explain why there seem to be so few full-time doctors these days? Getting an appointment can be so difficult that the solution is often to give up trying and instead to go to A&E, which doesn?t help our overstretched hospitals.
  5. Has anyone spoken to the owners of these poor creatures?
  6. Our car (a red Alfa 156. GNO6 LVW) has disappeared from Archdale Road. I?d be grateful if it could be added to your group.
  7. HAYA Minis at Telegraph Hill centre on Fridays at 4-5 is amazing. As is Little and Loud at Honor Oak pub on a Saturday morning. HAYA?s contact number is 020 8694 8535
  8. The birthday card that my daughter posted (1st Class) in Norwich on 2nd October arrived today. Is this a record?
  9. Thank goodness hospitals are now using text messages as well as snail-mail to advise about appointments. The letters are arriving days after the due date.
  10. Our ?comics? (due lasst Friday) have arrived, together with a fistful of assorted mail one of which was a letter from Kings dated Sept 3.
  11. The same here on North Cross Road - no sign of the 2 ?comics? that usually arrive on Fridays. Fingers crossed for today.
  12. We?ve never had a problem with Virgin. Most of the time everything works perfectly, and on the odd occasion when there?s been a problem the service has been impeccable. That?s why we stayed with them when we moved, six years ago, from a provincial city to the middle of East Dulwich.

    Carpet Moths

Moths don?t like synthetic carpets. As far as they?re concerned, there?s no substitute for wool.
  14. I doubt whether the cat that left the uneaten blackbird corpse in the middle of my lawn early this morning was a poor waif that had been locked out by its cruel owners. Much more likely to have been the ginger tabby that comes in via next-door?s shed roof.
  15. The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (the one that?s curated by Grayson Perry) would be a sure-fire hit for the grandchildren. I went yesterday and haven?t had so much fun for ages. Packed with happy people of all ages thoroughly enjoying themselves. But it finishes at the end of this week, so you?ll need to be quick!

    Japanese Knotweed

Tuesday?s email to Southwark Council has already born fruit! The Grounds Supervisor, Michael Ross, has just left after a site visit to assess the problem and to explain it to our nice neighbour (who had absolutely no idea that the attractive plant in his garden was a pernicious weed) and work will begin some time next week. Apparently it will need at least three applications, and there?s no guarantee that it won?t try to return, but we should be able to deal with it ourselves following instructions they will leave with us. So HURRAH for the council !!!

    Japanese Knotweed

    As was Himalayan Balsam.

    Japanese Knotweed

If it were confined to my garden I?d be out there anointing it with poison every day! Unfortunately, 99 percent of it is next door. Apparently the council will deal with it (for ?99+), so I?ve emailed the environmental department. The automated acknowledgement promises to get back in touch with me in due course .......
  19. Has anybody had this pernicious weed dealt with successfully? Any advice would be most welcome !!!!!
  20. Does anyone know where it is?
  21. While you?re at it, it would be worth while having them powder-coated - tough as old boots, and lasts forever
  22. What about a wig? You could take her for a walk down Rye Lane, where she?ll be spoilt for choice.
  23. SMBS? Farmers? Organic Village? Dulwich D.I.Y? Johnnies? Etc etc etc ....
  24. I was prepared to overlook/forgive the data-harvesting issue until I read ?I'm not using data from this survey until after the election? How to lose a vote in four small words ....
