  1. Try the Stag and Bow in Forest Hill. They do workshops.
  2. Thanks for that fl0wer. I too appreciate the wonder that is the spider and its web. :-)
  3. Good on you PeckhamRose! I would have done the same had I seen the numbskulls.
  4. It looks fantastic! I used to despair when I drove past it everyday seeing it slowing declining into a point of no return. Thanks to English Heritage and Hexagon Housing for saving this original example of a concrete house.
  5. Newwave, there's nothing wrong with Sydenham, you snob!
  6. So sorry to hear about the burglaries you've all been experiencing. I've already suggested on other threads somewhere but will suggest it again here too. If you want to consider a monitored alarm system I can highly recommend Direct Security Alarms who are a locally based firm (Sydenham) and provide excellent customer service and very reasonable prices. I have used them for over 10 years. Call them over to give you a quote for an alarm/cctv. Having my premises alarmed gives me peace of mind and is a very good deterrent against these scumbags. I set it at night when I go to bed. If it goes off during the day the signal goes through to the monitoring centre and there's a list of keyholders who get contacted if it's a false alarm (I've never had a false alarm unless I've set it off by accident myself!) Or if the signal shows that there's forced entry the police are contacted by Direct Security (thankfully, this has never happened). Phone: 0845 3703 999 Weblink: http://www.directsecurity.net/Contactus.html
  7. Definately put in an appeal straight away. Say you will represent yourself. Get on the phone to them first thing tomorrow to tell them that is what you are going to do so that they do not stop your benefits, then reply in writing, following the the instructions on your decision letter. Good luck.
  8. If anyone might consider an alarm/monitored system Direct Security are very reasonable in fitting/monitoring prices. Based in Sydenham. I've used them for over 10 years and they provide excellent customer service. They also fit CCTV. http://www.directsecurity.net/index.html

  11. It's in here too: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/police-hunt-for-man-who-tried-to-abduct-girl-9-on-way-to-school-in-south-london-8482561.html
  12. Have you contacted the police? How long has he been missing? What area is he missing from and what is his name? Hopefully he is found/comes home soon.
  13. Great photos Krigh. Very atmospheric. Are you a pro photographer?
  14. I think it's disgusting that the woman didn't even apologise to you. How dare she say that the tear in your trousers was already there?! I'm glad you reported the incident. It was serendipity that the two police officers appeared when they did.
  15. Where would she be getting the Big Issues from then if she's not genuine? Did you ask to see her ID and she did not show it to you?
  16. I saw Stephen Lewis, (Inspector Cyril "Blakey" Blake from On The Buses) at Sainsbury's in Forest Hill.
  17. How awful. You poor things. Maybe for peace of mind you should get a monitored alarm fitted. Direct Security are a good company based in Sydenham. I've used them for over 10 years and would highly recommend them and their rates are reasonable. I hope I'm allowed to put this link here but here are their contact details. http://www.directsecurity.net/Contactus.html
  18. I doubt they were eally from ADT. Just probably casing people's properties in order to come back another time and burgle them. I'd never let them into my home.
  19. Yes, brilliantly written and I loved reading it. Will also be paying a visit soon.
  20. Such an awful thing to happen. Just hope the cat's found soon and is not suffering somewhere. ALL dogs should be kept on a lead when being walked on the streets.
  21. Albert Fegg, that made me chuckle!
  22. Ditto. Thanks ChristopherH for offering your assistance. You're a true gem. 90%towelling - I do hope your mother is not too distressed. The spineless person who carried out this act targetted the most vulnerable in our society. I hope whoever did it has Karma deal with them.
  23. This post was on the Sydenham Forum. I thought I'd post it here too: Hi All, I just wanted to share an update from Celia Hammond Animal Trust in Lewisham: APPEAL FOR FOSTER HOMES! ADULT CATS AND MUM'S AND KITTENS. Lewisham Branch is currently struggling! So many cats and kittens have come into our care during July and August - far more than have been homed and now we are having to cope with a cat flu outbreak in the rescue centre which means we cannot take in any more new cats or kittens at the moment. Urgent calls are continuing to come in begging for our help to rescue stray cats and kittens and take in cats that people can't keep for a variety of reasons. With every rescue in the area also full the situation is serious. There are calls coming in related to really urgent situations with deadlines such as evictions. If you could help please email lewisham@celiahammond.org Calls include a woman in Lewisham who is being evicted on Wednesday and has four cats that need emergency boarding can anyone help foster these - can be split into two pairs. Additionally, there are lovely cats needing homes from the RSPCA in Balham (some cats are kept in Streatham Hill Vets. http://www.rspca-balhamandtooting.org.uk/pet/cats/ Thanks!
  24. What about the babies' parents who'll return to feed them and find an empty nest? :-( Despite this, well done to everyone showing concern for the little creatures. It's nice to know that there are some people out there who notice these things.
