Mini scooters - suggest alternatives to the Mini Micro
bluesuperted replied to QueenMab's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ours is blue with one fluro pink and one fluro orange handlebar - I was happy with the gender mix of that combo! -
Hi popsy, sorry you're still feeling awful but glad you've been signed off! Glad Nevasic is helping a bit too - I found it the same, really glad I had it to help me even though it didn't cure me. It's weird to listen to though isn't it?! I think I read about it on babycentre but pretty much never heard of it before of since, they need to publicise it more! Fingers crossed things will turn a corner as the hormones calm a bit, in the meantime rest as much as you can! xx

I often think of this thread, even though shockingly it was three years ago, tempus fugit... Was reminded of it today, listening to the words of the lovely Ellie Goulding track 'How long will I love you?' which surely must have been written about a mother's love for her child. I love every word and feel they could have been written for me and my little girl, already almost 9 months old. Think my favourite bit is: 'How long will I hold you As long as your father told you As long as you can' Forgive me the sentimental bumping of this post. It's almost Christmas and I'm feeling blessed with my two! xx

Best containers for batch cooking
bluesuperted replied to Undiscovered's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Interested in this too, now we have a massive freezer, a friend said stackable is a must and I'd like a healthy/BPA-free choice... -
Any Christmas Fairs this weekend?
bluesuperted replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Kilmorie's fair (Kilmorie Rd, Forest Hill) is Saturday 2-5pm and sounds lovely - theme is Alice in Winterland. -
http://m.zulily.co.uk/event/1005139?email=lucyorton%40gmail.com I know they get mentioned a lot on here and thought people might be interested in this deal as it's pretty good. My son loves his collection.

Have read really good things about the Catford one actually - am going to attempt to get tickets for it.

I had really, really bad nausea with my second and found a very weird thing that helped a bit where nothing else did - Nevasic app - it's really strange distorted music that you listen to and it apparently disrupts the neural signals of nausea/vomiting. I didn't find it an absolute cure but I used to listen to it on headphones whenever I could and it definitely did something positive even at some very rough times! Definitely worth a try: http://nevasic.com/

Plantation shutters for family home
bluesuperted replied to Anna27's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just to update, we had our shutters installed today from Affordable Shutters and couldn't be happier. The fitting was really painless and quick and the effect is brilliant both inside and out. Would most definitely use again and am attaching a picture to show how nice they look :) -
Other people waking my baby
bluesuperted replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agree, once asleep my 3 year old will not be woken - can be carried in from car etc without waking, similarly can turn lights on, baby can crawl over him and he just snuffles on and continues to sleep... It's lush! Really think their sleep deepens and changes around 2.5... Do agree with white noise though, works a treat keeping my 8 month old napping through the most ridiculous and varied building work noises known to man, a quick burst of white noise resettles her through the most unrelaxing and jolting sounds! -
Complete refusal to take medicine
bluesuperted replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had this at the same age and I did my own yoghurt mixed with -eek- golden syrup!! I'm quite strict with sweet stuff and certainly was then so he was so shocked and gobbled it all up!! I reduced the syrup quantity bit by bit and found this Mary Poppins approach invaluable when I really had to get the ABs in!! Good luck, I remember being v stressed by it. -
Massive Moving Baby/Toddler/Child Things For Sale

Very suspect and would now put me off Peekaboo events in future... -
Forest Hill is brilliant, I love living here. This site is pretty useful and largely up to date I think: http://www.nct.org.uk/sites/default/files/related_documents/FH%20Baby%20and%20Toddler%20Activities%20NEW.doc Lots of good things happening at the Ackroyd Centre, St Saviours (Honor Oak) and Kilmorie Children's Centre. We love Blythe Hill Fields, lots going on at Mayow including a Forest School, Sydenham Woods, little swing park opposite Dalmain School. And of course the Horniman inside and out is just an amazing resource, it literally rocks my world! New farmers market on a Saturday morning is superb way to start the weekend and great for the whole family. Coffee shops - Canvas and cream, St David's and Montage (which has a playroom). I also have been using the very sweet community cafe with play area off Stanstead Rd - Phoenix Community Cafe - they are making some changes to the menu as it's currently quite basic but I love it and the ladies that run it are fab with children. It reminds me of Bread of Life in ED. When I move from FH I will be moving out of London, it has everything you need, enjoy!

Massive Moving Baby/Toddler/Child Things For Sale
bluesuperted replied to melissasmith's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm interested in the dinosaurs and one of the ergo baby carriers if possible. Can collect at some point over the weekend, will PM! Thanks :) -
My 3yo played with a friend's marble run at the weekend and also loved it. Played on his own then asked for some construction help, then on own again. Definitely brilliant toy for his age group and tempted to buy for playing during baby's naps as she will eat the marbles!

Mortgage Adviser / Mortgage Broker required!
bluesuperted replied to helenjackman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have recommended Mark Cornelius at MDL to many friends and on here. He is brilliant and always finds us a great deal (and we are a bit tricky with only one salary). 07887 558901 -
This book, ToddlerCalm, from the people behind the brilliant BabyCalm (very scientific, easy to read and AP-leaning) have just brought out this book which looks fantastic: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0349401055 Haven't read it yet but keep meaning to order a copy. Also recommend anything by Laura Markham including her Ahaparenting newsletter and site and her book: Peaceful Parent Happy Kids. It's excellent and I think along the kind of lines you're after: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/ref=mw_hm Also How to talk to your kids etc is a classic for older kids: How To Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1848123094/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_T9wysb0YD5MJZ

Books on autism/Aspergers - recommendations?
bluesuperted replied to CFM's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome by Luke Jackson is an amazing book. It's written by Luke who has AS and is a teenager so it's very relevant to older kids but there are younger kids in his family and he talks about their experiences plus his own when he was small. He has become a bit of a guru for ASD and is pretty inspirational, the book is lovely and he comes across brilliantly. Another great book is A Friend Like Henry which is about a troubled little boy with severe autism who comes out of himself when the family get a pet dog - it's heartwarming and a true story. Definitely a bit depressing at the beginning but it's worth it in the end as the dog had a transformative effect on the little boy and helps him with emotions and looking after himself. There is another resource which is great but I can't remember the name right now, will come back to the thread later! Hope this helps. -
Presents for 3 year old girls

Great selection of Orchard toys and jigsaws on Ocado... -
Excuse the pedantry but I believe it's the National Literacy Trust that LondonMix means? Interesting thread. Only slightly tangential but my comment is this: I hate Michael Gove.
