  1. Your poor friend, sounds like crap support when she needed it most. I had an EMCS following a very long induction but my milk came in on day 4 or something like so no personal experience. I'm sure others will be on soon to offer that but here are some bits of advice that might help: - call claire kedves at kings if that's possible following Tommy's birth, amazing lady who has helped so many. - check for tongue tie as well as latch - get private lactation consultant if necessary or else Peckham breastfeeding cafe. - pump pump pump after every attempt to breastfeed - but don't pump on place of offering boob - feed pumped breast milk using either syringe or cup so baby doesn't get nipple confusion - spend day(s) in bed naked with baby loads of skin on skin, warm baths, lots for mum to drink (and I mean lots) - lactogenic foods - google contented calf cookbook and ingredients that help - fennel and oats off top of my head but loads more - fenugreek - also call Dulwich health matters for supplement advice - don't feed to any kind of schedule and offer breast as often as possible even if baby keeps refusing - even just contact builds up supply - post this question on the leaky boob page on Facebook - there will be people there who've had this experience and also with supplemental nursing systems (SNS) and its a fantastic community. I'm sure there's lots of other advice to come but I hope some of this might be of some help. Best of luck to your friend xx
  2. Thanks Len!! Excited but very nauseous at the moment :) hoping it passes before the new hummy mummies term starts!
  3. Wanted to share a great (in a weird way) experience my family had at Rocca at the weekend, and had to wait til I'd had my 12 week scan to out myself as pregnant!! We've always had great family meals at Rocca in the village, food is good and staff are lovely with children. We decided to go along at the weekend on a very hot day. Despite having thought I'd kept my nausea-filled self cool all day, I clearly wasn't feeling my best as I managed to semi-pass out in the corridor en route to the loo. A very kind customer led me back to my table outside and then the Rocca staff kicked in: cold flannels, ice buckets and even the manager fanning me. It was all very embarrassing but I felt so rotten (had forgotten fainting feels like you're dying!) that I couldn't have been more grateful for their care. My waitress Lucia was so lovely to us and to my slightly bewildered 2 year old. And in fact the team kindly took him inside to a cooler area to eat his dinner and sat with him while I perked up with my husband at my side. Thanks to their lovely service I managed to recover well enough to eat all my lasagne (big deal for me at the moment as can hardly stomach anything) and we left with smiles on our faces! All too often you read a bad review or a negative experience with staff so I thought it was definitely important to mention how superb all at Rocca were to us. Family-friendly all round, thank you Lucia and everyone at Rocca!! Email to manager on way too.
  4. Also love it and don't go often enough! Great addition and as others have said, very well thought out indeed and deserves lots of repeat custom! Cheese scones delicious.
  5. A&E for babies is brilliant Strawbs, they are so great and you get seen really quickly. Have always had lovely nurses and hardly any wait. Babies under one I imagine get seen even more quickly.
  6. Signed! I was lucky enough to escape any TT issues but I saw the agony some friends went through (including Knomester-the-brave!) and it was awful, makes me cross that such a simple check is not routine when it could save so many BFing relationships and help new mums no end in an already difficult period.
  7. I use the fantastic Anna who comes to my home and does all waxing, threading, nail and beauty treatments and is really friendly and reasonable. Her number is: 07905 509125
  8. Uniqlo is amazing, another big thumbs up, just properly discovered it this year and their coloured/black&white trouser/jeans are wonderful plus if you buy in store they alter for free while you wait, fantastic for me as I have short legs. I've also bought their stuff online as now I know my waist size it's easy and I have bought ankle-length trousers that way and they fit my legs perfectly! I also like Matalan, not at all trendy but very reasonable and their dresses/tops can be teemed with more expensive items. Dorothy Perkins dress selection is also fantastic if you are dress-type of girl, whenever I go in I always see several lovely dresses around the ?35 mark.
  9. For me it seemed pretty dramatic and projectile at the time but actually it wasn't proper projectile vomiting which is when it literally crosses the room. It was kind of impressive in a slightly gross way though!
  10. Glad you feel reassured and she's doing so well! Once every 36 hours sounds great to me! No one mentioned reducing dairy that I remember.
  11. Hi there, I had this with my LO from him being days old to probably about 8 weeks. I was so worried - he would often be sick 4 or 5 times a day, and it always looked like a lot of liquid coming up. Luckily for me, I was with Brierley midwives and they were amazing at reassuring me that he would still be taking a lot of milk in, they came out and weighed him (he was gaining), asked me if he was alert and happy (he was) and if he didn't seem in pain (he didn't at all). At one point a very experienced, calm midwife came and sat with my husband and I for 2 hours and reassured us whilst watching him feed; he did a 'massive' (in my mind) vomit while she was there and the midwife looked at us and said, 'that was a tiny amount' - she thought less than half of what he was taking in had come out, whereas to us it looked like loads. One of her tips was to throw a eggcup of water on the carpet and see what a mess it makes - a small amount of liquid can indeed look like a bucketful! So I totally understand what you are going through but if you feel that your little one is happy, alert, gaining weight and not in pain, you may find it resolves before too long - I remember feeling very stressed, down to my underwear for the second time in a day, and feeling I would never be able to leave the house for fear of being covered in sick! Once I felt reassured by the midwife I could cope with the vomit (and washing!) a bit easier, and then it was suddenly over without me really realising it! If you are in any way concerned, I would try calling a community midwife who can visit you at home, calling seldoc or even going to A&E if you feel your baby is floppy, losing weight or unhappy. If she is not worrying you in any other way you are probably doing great and just have a guzzler of a baby like I did. Oh and I wonder why you are worried about your milk supply? If you are feeding on demand at this stage and she seems happy and gaining, I'm sure your supply is great. Hope this helps somewhat, take care! x
  12. Thanks to the EDF and very helpful forumite who PMd the shoe has been reunited with its pair! What a fab forum :)
  13. Thanks Knomester, meant to post the same few days ago and forgot. Fi who runs Natural Childhood/magic circle groups is a great person to connect with in this area and lots of homeschoolers, would be homeschoolers and people just generally interested in child-led activities, attend. Plus the site is great and has loads of evidence-backed support for child-led learning.
  14. Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help us, my husband just carried my 2 year old round Lordship Lane including Grove Vale area in the sling and one of his new crocs fell off :( did anyone happen to see a forlorn red coloured croc lying around anywhere? They were also in Goose Green playground. Any sightings/info would be very much appreciated!
  15. Molly, I think it's changed, as when I sorted my Maternity Allowance (MA) for self-employment 2.5yrs ago, I didn't need to declare earnings in the qualifying 'test period' - every week that you pay full NI stamp you qualify for the full MA of around ?130 per week and as long as you do this for 26 weeks of the year or so before baby is born you are sorted for full MA for 39 weeks. The thing you really SHOULDN'T do as a woman considering more babies is apply for the small earnings exemption (where you don't need to pay NI) even of your earnings are low, as then they do look at your earnings in the event of maternity to work out what you're due based on average earnings. It's very good cover to pay a little over ?100 a year in NI to have the insurance of decent maternity pay! I found some good information on direct gov which is fairly clear: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/moneytaxandbenefits/benefitstaxcreditsandothersupport/expectingorbringingupchildren/dg_10018869
  16. Agree, Baby Bjorn terrible, loads of great soft structured carriers that are much, much better for you and bubs. Still carrying my nearly two year old (full time, very seldom use buggy, although we do now take the bus a lot!) in our fabulous Manduca. Previously had the Ergo, the graduated to Beco Gemini. Loved both but Manduca works from newborn and is so so comfy and adjustable, it's worth the extra ??, have recommended to loads of friends and no one disappointed yet. If you get the ergo you will no doubt be thrilled, but if you can track down a Manduca I think you might find it even better and useful for longer. Happy babywearing :)
  17. I really agree that honesty is best in all this stuff - laurac my parents were pretty open from about aged 10, but as I started my period at just 11, I felt just the same (I felt dirty, it was really horrid) and so maybe they could have started earlier so it was all more ingrained. My 23mo is very interested in his willy and his daddy's too and we are being totally cool with this! In fact yesterday we had a 'chat' about how E has a willy and daddy has a willy but no mummy doesnt have one cos she's a girl. Unchartered territory as a female with one sister but I do think the more open you can be (bathroom door open, seeing bodies naked and answering or responding to them labelling boobies, willy etc) the better. As the questions get more detailed i plan on sticking to age appropriate honesty and looking at books to find out more together.
  18. It's pretty quiet - not silent but it never bothers me and is quieter than our washing machine which rocks the whole of our open plan lounge/diner/kitchen!! It's positioned in our hallway which is double height and not quite below where my son sleeps, it's never woken him up. Also has a handy lock thing which means the programme can't be switched by toddling hands while it's spinning. Hope this helps!
  19. Haha Buggie! I was recommended the Beko or a Bosch equivalent by some friends and went for the Beko as reviews were fab and it was about ?150 cheaper. Have not been disappointed and am a bit of an evangelist about how a tumble dryer is hugely important with little ones!!
  20. Belle (and others!), we have an AMAZING tumble dryer, it is this model or very very similar and requires no plumbing so can go anywhere with a socket! you just empty the water container every handful of washes, no problem at all. Think condensers used to have a bad reputation but this model is fantastic and I love (saddo) that we can take it with us wherever we move to in future without worrying about plumbing. http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/DCU7230W-Beko-Condenser-Tumble-Dryer-White-23584.aspx?productid1=DCU7230W_WH&channel=googleshopping&cm_mmc=Froogle-_-FS%20tumble-dryers-condenser-_-Beko-_-DCU7230W_WH We paid ?180 for it and it was money well spent - plus interestingly it didn't seem to add to our electricity costs as the heat it emits actually warmed the house quite a lot! We keep ours under the stairs,it's quite wide so worth measuring. Boring but life changing, especially with cloth nappies!!
  21. Re: yoghurt, I did stick to 'pure' BLW but just loaded the spoon - still messy but a good compromise. Pretty sure he wouldn't have countenanced being fed by that point anyway!
  22. I had an experimenter rather than an eater for many weeks and months so no experience with rage! But I also coated slippery things in porridge oats! Made it much easier for him to grip bits of mango, pear etc although sure it tasted a bit odd!
  23. I went to Health Matters on LL following a few hours in GG park last week about hayfever remedies as was suffering a bit that day - the lady there asked where I'd been and told me what kind of pollen/plant it was in that park and that it aggravates allergy sufferers - really sorry I can't remember name of it now but might be worth calling them as she seemed v knowledgable about it. Must have been very strong/known to be irritating, my hayfever symptom haven't been bad again since and I've not been back to GG park either. Hope this is helpful...

    .

Poor man! Have you tried contacting his service provider on his behalf (with his blessing of course)? Maybe they could reposition his dish/receiver?
  25. Ooo this is providing me with some eye candy for my rightmove app! Love a bit of property/location porn ;)
