Sure Fuschia will be on here soon. I have a fast let down (two children) and it calmed down both times around 8/10 weeks. It didn't bother either of mine that they vomited up the excess either... What I'm saying is you might just be able to wait it out. My daughter does still regularly get squirted though, I think she's used to it though! Think re seeming to prefer bottles, babies do find bottles easier so I'd recommend stopping bottles, doing lots of skin to skin and getting him to BF as much as poss so he gets used to it again to avoid what sounds like a kind of nipple confusion. Hope this helps and sure F will be on here soon with some pearls! -
Parenting book recommendation please

It's 'Kiss me! How to raise your child with love' and sounds fabulous, have read reviews plus articles by Carlos Gonzalez and it sounds great. Have read great things about 'My child won't eat' by the same author, very reassuring. -

Yes! -
We are mainly out in the mornings, back by 2 at latest. It's boiling and lovely at times but REALLY hard work. I also suffer a bit from feeling faint in extreme heat but find staying in worse for all concerned. Water play is a must, shaded picnics, big hats, cream on before we go and massive cotton scarf over baby in sling (as don't want to make her overheat in loads of clothes), regular drinks for all - so proximity to cafe v useful. We also went to the woods yesterday - much cooler. The weird thing is, it's not getting cooler late afternoon - in fact the other day the forecast said 6pm was hottest time of day. Madness! I use public transport as don't drive but have taken a few cabs the past two weeks - getting tired toddler back on the bus is hard work as Bea wiped out, as am I. Any great suggestions of cool activities? I am seriously considering the cinema tomorrow... On the plus side I'm getting a proper tan as if I've been abroad!!

We sell on Amazon - you get really good prices for technical/text/study books, we sold loads of teaching and speech therapy text books for close to their actual prices - so ?20ish a pop. Take a look at the Used prices and slightly reduce accordingly!

So....which water plays are open people?
bluesuperted replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's what we did - actually we left at 8 but the way there was fine. The way back was awful because 3x accidents on M2 so we moved 15 mins in 2.5 hours. We ended up turning back, going to Whitstable to try and find a room, predictably there weren't any, so we had to wait until the roads cleared and ended up having beefeater dinner and then getting home with two sleeping children (thank god!) at 1030pm. The best laid plans!! -

Oh yes various roads are closed, we drove today via Hilly Fields (round the top) which was fine. Lots of bus routes though (better in the week anyway as parking is tricky/meters. The 122, 185 and 75 I think all drop very close by. -

Ladywell is gorgeous, quite quiet in the week but much busier today. Loads of children catching fish together. It's kind of got it all with the cafe and play area too... Although they are trying to shut the cafe guy down (been there for years) and put it up for tender. I believe there's an online petition to save him, I'll see if I can find it. His ?1 homemade cakes are great and it's very reasonable for other things. -

Am I making a horrible mistake? (Newborn naps)
bluesuperted replied to Emski's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Agree agree SW... Saying that to a mum of a 4wk old is outrageous. Although first time round I was told by my MW at I think 2 weeks postpartum that I should put the baby down more. I didn't, it felt right to hold him, it still does. This article explains the fourth trimester really well: http://babycalm.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/the-fourth-trimester-aka-why-your-newborn-is-only-happy-in-your-arms-30/ -
I like the Warburton square brown wraps, make great, easy sarnies for little hands (cut in two). Also, trail mix, leftover pasta including filled pasta is nice cold. Homemade pizza - make two at dinner and save one. I really can't picture what you mean with the hotdogs and worms!!

bluesuperted replied to Emski's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm on number two and it's bliss to be away from the worries of first time mum-ness. I feed my baby to sleep left, right and centre, carry her in a sling, or in arms, for all naps and do not feel worried or guilty for a second. I did the very same with my son and he ended up napping beautifully on his own when he went to two and then one nap a day. Today he was so exhausted from his busy morning in the son that he nearly fell asleep sat on the carpet, yesterday he did the same sat next to me on the bus. He has zero sleep problems and I was totally baby led, I say cuddle and papoose your baby and enjoy it as much as you can (definitely with cake at hand). -
I would do the Nunhead community choir if I had free evenings... A friend was interested in the WI in SE23 (not my cup of tea but they do lots of interesting things apparently). Stagg and Bow and Sew ED (is that their name?) do craft courses. Book group?

Sydenham is on! Was great this am, not packed at all although plenty of people about. Imagine it's VERY quiet now though due to the activities of a certain Scot! -
I thought the same re: backpacks but have managed to break two (decent ones) by over stuffing them. Hence my latest purchase! I think the material and stitching need to be really strong given how much grief I give my bags when out and about, chucked around on buses, hastily grabbed and ransacked when a snack/nappy/potty is urgent.

I just bought a Baby Mule (it was heavily discounted but usually ?90!!) and so far it's fab. Really roomy and works as a proper rucksack (I babywear), a messenger bag or a pram bag. I'm really impressed, it's really well designed and has loads of amazing features and is particularly good for me because I have a newly potty trained toddler (so lots of spare clothes and a potty!!) and a 15w baby, I don't drive and I seem to be constantly carrying round picnics and outfits for rain or sun etc and so far seems great. I breastfeed but there is a single bottle cover thing too which I'm using to keep toddler beaker from leaking. Plus I cloth nappy my new baby! I can see it lasting and being a fab bag for ages to come. Worth looking at pics and reviews on Amazon and maybe zulily will do another offer soon? I paid about ?60.

17 month old and newborn - will I need childcare?
bluesuperted replied to monkeymoo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You're absolutely right Belle, I'm blessed with a good sleeper and very chilled out number two. That massively helps as I don't really worry about her at all, just logistics and toddler needs are what make life tiring, she's a breeze. If I had the money and had a third (who may not be as easy) I'd definitely try and budget for a doula type person to at least come and make me drinks and lunch for toddler in the early weeks after paternity leave finishes. Refluxy baby is such hard work and I think would require serious lateral thinking and calling in help from wherever to get through the early months.
