  1. Having bought a traditional bird feeder on top of a pole only for it to be emptied daily by squirrels, I tried numerous contraptions and crazy ideas to squirrel proof it, all of which failed. On the suggestion of a family friend, I tried greasing the feeder pole in Vaseline and low and behold it worked. For a few days after, we were provided with much entertainment watching the squirrels attempt to climb up the pole only to be defeated again and again and eventually they just stopped trying. For weeks after this we were rewarded with the arrival of numerous garden birds once again. This was then halted by the far worse, noisier parakeets, that could empty the feeders in far less time, fill the garden with ear splitting screeches and bully away all the native garden birds. We never found a solution so have had to stop filling the feeder. Squirrels 0 - parakeets 1.

I?ve most definitely noticed this but in our case it was due to one thing alone.....parakeets. I used to regularly buy bird feed and top up our feeders in the garden . However, we have had to stop this this year after parakeets completely took over the feeders, completely emptying them within an hour and bullying away all the small, native birds. We went from having swarms of local, small birds visiting our garden to nothing but flocks of screaming parakeets fighting over the bird feeders. It?s such a shame as I used to enjoy sitting watching the garden visitors but we now have hardly anything.
  3. I feel a bit sick reading this post as I had a meter reader come to my house on the same day, sounds very much like the same guy and I just let him in. Normally I?m at work but I?ve been unwell so happened to be at home. I showed him down to the cellar where the meter is and then he asked if he could use the toilet - which again I allowed him. Reading this now I?m kicking myself that I didn?t ask for any ID at all, especially being a woman at home on my own.
  4. I had a plant growing in my garden which i was unsure about so I emailed a photo to environet uk who are knotweed specialists and they replied a day later to say it wasnt knotweed. Maybe you could email it to them. [email protected]
  5. If you go into the section that you want to search, e.g. Family discussion, then on the search area in the top right corner click on the magnifying glass. It will bring you to a search page. Put in what you want to search for then on the drop down option select 'search only this forum' as opposed to 'search all forums'. This will search for your key word only within the family discussion section. It's set as a default to just search the last 30 days worth of posts but you can go further back by using the drop down menus.
  6. Deleted as r?alis? you are the person who lost it originally!
  7. Wow - I'm guessing this is what I can hear and I'm at the top end of Upland Road and Lordship Lane! It must be insanely loud for people living closer by!
  8. According to the staff, tomorrow is the last day that they'll be open as they are closing this branch. Real shame as it is our go to for bread and coffees. I guess it just wasn't making enough money to warrant keeping it open with another branch so close by with greater footfall.
  9. If you still need them, we've got 51, 66 and 82. We don't need any in return, just glad to help. PM me if you need them and I can let you know where we are.
  10. Thanks for the recommendation! I was hoping for somewhere a little closer but if I don't find anywhere, it's a good excuse to pop into Bromley for a bit of shopping! midivydale Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not sure how local you need but the best threading > I have found is at debenhams in Bromley. 11. Hello. Not sure if this is the right section but figured local mothers might know! I'm looking for recommendations for somewhere local that offers eyebrow threading and tinting- I don't want anything extreme and am looking for a natural look? Thanks!!
  12. Lost last night around Franklins on Lordship lane a remote control for a Cochlear Implant. Photo attached. If found, please let me know!

  14. I don't know if they'll have that particular brick but we went to a builders merchant in Streatham, Lewis and Co., a few years ago for a patio we were doing. They were very helpful and had a range of bricks on display. From memory, they're just off streatham common. Even if they don't have what you want, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
  15. Photo attached - just informed police
  16. Just driving home and spotted this moped on the corner of crystal palace road and Jennings road. I'm assuming it's been stolen and dumped as the number plate has been snapped off, the front light has been torn out and the top box is lying in the gutter. I took a photo as I'm clueless about mopeds and couldn't see any identifying model name. Just wondered if anyone had theirs stilen recently?
  17. I get weekly emails from urban explorer.com which sends details of events held over London for all sorts of events aimed at children. They often send details of coding events/activities. This weeks email had two things listed ... http://www.wizziewizzie.org http://ioi.london
  18. I've taken my son twice now and both times received very good service - they've been polite, helpful and given a very good haircut.
  19. Found in Peckham Rye Park - valid 16-25 Railcard on a Santander logo card. Belongs to a male. PM me with your name if you think it's yours.
  20. Saw it today - think it was called La Bonne Bouffe
  21. Thanks for the recommendation.
  22. Hi all. My 5 year old has been showing some interest in playing the piano and I wondered about getting him a few lessons locally to see if he'd enjoy it. Can anyone recommend a local, trustworthy tutor who works well with young children? Many thanks.
  23. I wondered why I had stopped receiving emails from them. The other site I use which is very similar is urban explorer.com. Weekly emails to say what's happening in and around London for children.
  24. What brand would people suggest?
