  1. @MrDude21 - were they white, black, asian??? or something else?
  2. Thank you Seaabag - rehanging the gate is the first solution we are going to do.
  3. Thanks very much AbDabs, a number of solutions are being tried as a first response. I just wanted to know how likely it was that the gate had to be removed.
  4. Hi Jules, The private side entrance belongs to the houseowner on the left... but the gate is attached to the neighbours building, it is not a shared entrance or access point/path for the neighbours in any way. Hope that clarifies.
  5. Hello EDF's, I'd like some assistance/direction from those in the know to help me understand the rules and rights of house owners when it comes to the gates that are fixed between them. Here are two scenarios: 1. Between two detached houses there is a gate that has been affixed for more than 15 years (before the current neighbours moved in around 10years ago). The gate is used to enter the left hand (homeowners) building down a private side entrance. The gate hinges are attached to the right hand (neighbours) building. In the last month they are complaining that the gate is vibrating their home. No works have been done on the gate. Outside of trying in-situ solutions, could the neighbour insist on having the gate removed? 2. Between the same two detached houses a wooden gate was put up towards the back of the building to enter the back garden. There was a previous old gate there many years ago. Again the gate hinges are attached to the right hand (neighbours) building. The gate has been in place for almost a year. The homeowner did not ask permission to add the gate, but assumed (wrongly or rightly) that it was a replacement and added some level of general security. Could the neighbour insist on having the gate removed? I'd like to understand what the rules/regs/usual rights are to these scenarios. Thanks, OD
  6. I've not felt that the noise from aircraft in ED has been disruptive to me to be honest... although I don't doubt/dismiss that it really affects some peoples lives..... however, this weekend I went to Horton and Datchet (sp?) and OMG!! The aircraft noise was absolutely deafening.....I actually coudlnt hear the person next to me speaking from the noise!! It felt like I was standing at the end of the runway. I'm not sure how people living in and around that area could tolerant another runway.... really put it into perspective for me.
  7. Hey All, I'm so glad that residents spoke with BBC Radio London, as I suspected Eddie Nestor (Anna O'Neil and team) highlighted the awful situation that they are facing and tried to get some responses/answers. The responses from the Wandle CEO beggars belief and in my mind demonstrated that she simply does not care. The CEO did not once show/express/'just say it for saying sake' one drop of empathy or regret for the situation until repeatedly pressed by Eddie - utterly disgusting and I made sure to email in and say so. Whilst I suspect that Wandle is not solely at fault (again where are Southwark Council in this??) the residents are faced with dealing with this organisation for resolution. Harriet Harman seems to be doing her best to get the voices of the residents heard and bring them directly to Wandle - this is indeed progress. I really hope that they respond responsibly and with empathy and common sense.
  8. Steveo - feel for you and yours..something isn't right... As Landlords/Freeholders Southwark are required to go through a specific process when it comes to announcing/tendering for works. Do you know if this was completed properly? We (owners of 5 flats in a Victorian building) were presented with frankly criminal costs by the then managing agent.. when we question them about the process (which they neglected) they were forced to pick up some of that cost as a result. We immediately asked for a sinking fund to be instituted, then broke the chains of bondage and obtained Right to Manage (RTM). This has got to be the way to go for smaller developments/buildings. I can appreciate larger estates that would be onerous to manage, but not impossible with the right support.
  9. I take your point, but I don't agree. Can any residents tell us if a complaints process was activated/being followed/come to an end? pipsky2008 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I would counsel against going to social media at > this point > > There will be a complaint procedures in place > within the housing association and Southwark > Council which need to be responded to within fixed > time limits. > > It needs to be shown that this 'Due process' has > been exhausted otherwise, should it go to law, a > judge could through out the case if this process > has not been gone through. > > It is also worth mentioning that if you want a > Councillor to respond, they should be addressed by > name with a direct question or questions
  10. Like many others I have been viewing this thread, this state of affairs is disgusting, I feel for the tenants/owners and their families. It is clear that Wandle have put out statements that have not materialised with those living in those blocks and Southwark have gone AWOL. My suggestion to help raise the profile of these issues to at the very least add pressure to getting responses/answers and help is to contact BBC London Radio. As a daily listener of this radio station particularly the morning and drive time shows I have heard similar stories of irresponsible housing associations being brought to book and action being taken due to the fact that tenants got the story taken up on the radio. I also think that if people can; they should use twitter in direct response to the latest tweet by their CEO as that will also bring attention to whats happening.
  11. I also have a pay as you go ZipCar membership, as a result of not renewing (I was with StreetCar before they were taken over). I find the pricing is now so expensive - which is why I didn't renew - unless you are using the vehicle for a couple of hours e.g. needing to move and pick stuff with ZipVans etc. There is certainly a level of convenience of walking to pick up/drop off a car a few streets away, unmatched by the regular car hire, however the regular car hire places seem consistently cheaper for longer/weekend car hire than ZipCar. Like others I have specialist care hire insurance. I purchased from icarinsurance.com.
  12. I usually change at Whitechapel to go onto Liverpool Street or Moorgate. Will be catching the Thameslink Farringdon service (wish me luck!) and getting on the tube from there.... fortunately wont cost me anymore due to the type of ticket I have.

  14. Hello, Try these people www.pidou.com Its a wine warehouse in Calais very close to the port, but they do sell all types of drinks, you should get everything you need. I've been the last 2 years on a day trip to stock up for Christmas!!! Prices and exchange rate are very competitive to me. They have offers that pay for the crossing if you buy ?300 on a pre-order of alcohol. Hope that helps... and Congrats!!

  18. > > I think it was the word 'inflict' which may not > have gone down well though I would have to agree > that that's what someone would be doing playing > music in the park. Out of interest .... is it the same if instead of music it was someone/group of people talking really loudly or singing?

  21. Hello All, Planning a friends get together in Dulwich Park, and really want to ensure we have a great day which abides by all the rules. Looked on the Southwark website and didn't see a definitive list of the dos and don'ts for this park... can anyone help me out? Are there any rules/regulations? For example - can we have a bbq? what about music? tables and chairs? Many Thanks OD
  22. I use briquettes and firelighters. I don't use a chimney, just pile them up in a pyramid and 20-30mins later I'm ready to start cooking!! Definitely need to leave a cool area. Saw a tip recently, if you're cooking fish (not in a basket or cedar plank) you can lay on sliced lemon!! :)
  23. @uncleglen - then what youo have to do it add 'meetings' in your calendar in which you complete your work and your status will be seen as 'busy' to everyone else!! Works for me!!
  24.
