Newspaper (sorry, Mail) "reports" story using out of context photograph (& facts) worra shock ! :)

switched from Sainsburys dog kennel hill to Lidl, Peckham, made huge savings ! especially on fruit and veg, which was needed after I had a to take a wage cut after a redundancy this year. No complaints from me if one opened nearer.

What is replacing the Old Garden Centre??

Doubt it'll be a Morrisons now they've sold of their local business. -
I've been to the sylvan post's in forest hill, that was quite fun ( I know not in ED, but up the road for me in Underhill road ) They had one in the flying pig the other day while we were in there too, so joined in while having a sloppy joe :)

Movie being filmed in Burgess park the last couple of days, I was asked by a crew member not to cycle down the road along the side where the cricket nets are as a stunt scene was about to be filmed involving a BMW...wish I could have stayed to watch, but had to get to work :/

A pilates studio has taken over the old French cafe site...couldn't see another cafe and restaurant opening there tbh. But there seems to be something opening up near the cemetery end of forest hill road, go past on my bike every day and have been watching the builders at work, front painted and planters outside where I guess there'll be seating.
-
Went passed today, seems like some sort of Pilates studio has set up there, not sure if it's permanent or not

Angel of Southwark ripped from her place in woods.

I noticed the same sign on a fence around one of the graves a monument had been removed from near the entrance on the friday (10th) I only noticed the sign on the actual fence around the removed monuments this week, so if it wasn't clear then I couldn't blame the poster for being upset if they care about the cemetery, I have noticed the council have now put signs on the entrance gates as well in the last few days, probably seen this thread. -

Mystery solved...as I mentioned before, they are renovating not destroying. This is the sign on the fence around the removed monuments (including the angel, which is just out of shot and is the other side to where I think the poster took their picture from) It's the same as the signs I mentioned that I saw above on some plots with fresh concrete on top. Seems its a case of the total opposite to what was originally posted ? Nothing to see here, move a long ;) -
I noticed that the cemetery is part of the green chain walk, so are the council encouraging people to use it as a recreational space ? I also noticed today that they are laying new foundations for some of the old wobbly memorials which have been removed but will be returned when the new foundations are set. I live right by this place and love the peace and quiet when I cut through on my way to and from work, some of the memorials give a fascinating incite into local history, including a memorial to members of a local family who tradgicaly died in the empress of ireland ship disaster which sank in Canada in 1914 in which over 1000 perished. ( I only learnt of this piece of history after googling after I saw the memorial) Love the wooded area ( or what ever it is ) especially the green clearing in the middle, Though I do feel some of the stones look a bit dodgy and probably need removing before they topple on someone :/

while passing through the cemetery on my way home from work I noticed a few old plots fenced off with fresh concrete on top, with a notice saying fresh foundations were being laid for old unsafe monuments which will be reinstated on top when the new foundations have set.. isn't this whats happening to the ones in the photos ? -
Its sort of opposite the the entrance to the arcade to Morrisons, so won't have to go far, I only noticed it the other day and wondered how long it had been there.

Well re the cat/fox bit..I can only report what I have seen, foxes are pretty cowardly when faced with a spitting feline, & try to avoid any injuries to themselves, yes an old feeble cat or or possibly young one might not stand a chance, I've had cats years, not had one injured or attack yet, just seen them attacking. not saying it doesn't happen, just not in my garden at the moment (just after we moved to our flat 9 years ago, we saw one of our old cats sitting in the sun next to a big old fox...we thought they were having an affair) Anyway..has Lidle opened yet in the old Iceland place ? I'm getting impatient ;)

Its car boot season ....selling pots empty or filled with plants seem a good sell probably, some friends had a a small bay tree in a pot stolen from right inside their front porch, & they have a a big iron gate and long front garden to get through to have got to it. bit concerned about my boxes and tubs that have been out there for near;y 6 years now :/

I care. > > > > DulwichFox > > Interesting, most foxes would tear a cat to shreds > given half the chance. Not so in most cases, witnessed our cats practically tear a fox a new one last year in our back garden ! one of our cats is always looking out the window & shoots out the cat flap in pursuit when a fox dares to step foot on our patch (sorry foxy) ;) anyway back on thread. found the big Iceland on the old kent road Dire when I tried it, half empty shelves, veg on it's last legs. Love the big purple "BARGAIN" signed place further up the road though. I would be very happy if Lidl took over the Icleand in ED, love the peckham one, practically halved our food bill. Just wouldn't use an M&S foods at all tbh.

Loved the wimpy as a kid ...used to go one in the town I grew up in with my Dad and sister on a friday during the late 70s early 80s.. the silver lining to divorced parents scenario (also a place called the golden egg, you know for a change) Loved the round frankfurter with I think a tomato in the middle. I never liked them when they went all McDonalds for a while and did away with table service and made you Que.. I think they went back to the old way after. not been in one for years though since.

GBK Hardly Hipster ... & you can't move in the west end for five guys, its like an EDs diner on acid ..GBK, I tried it once when it first opened here,(and just the once) just a bun so overfilled with mayonnaise, the meat part shoots across the room like a bar of soap ...both chains ...couldn't imagine someone of the beardy-sleeve clan stepping foot inside either tbh (unless they start selling vinyl)

My pet hate is those people who feel it's ok to just help themselves ...not talking about hardened criminals who kick doors in & cause misery and mayhem (who I also obviously hate with a vengeance) But people like the person who walked past my garden, saw the pretty little red tree & thought - "that looks nice, it'll look nicer in my garden, so little old self entitled me will just help myself. they can buy themselves another one, they must be able to afford to buy a new one" (which I can't after e recent redundancy btw)

Bizarrely they filled in the hole it would have left after it had been taken out and left it all neat and tidy like it had never been there .....how thoughtful .....

Underhill road - what's it like?

Sadly The little newsagent I mentioned above on woodvale closed this week, was only in there last sunday, and the owner didn't say a word as I collected the magazine he keeps for me. Lovely family. But the woodvale stores next door is now selling the newspapers & magazines, and have taken on the paper rounds to. -
It was only a little one from B&Q, been there for two years, replacing it with a holly instead.... or maybe poison ivy
-
To the scumbag who decided to help themselves to the red Acer in my front garden ...your a piece of Sh**te ! (not the most important thing in the world, but I feel better now)

We have lived here nearly nine years, just in-between Belvoir & Langton rise...thought about selling up and moving last year, but then realised we love it so much and decided to stay put. We have fab neighbours, and find it no problem getting anywhere by bus, often walk to lordship lane on a sunny summers day, or cut through cemetery to get to forest hill road. Woodvale stores, the butchers and newsagent are alway used by us just around the corner. I often order magazines from the newsagent which he keeps back for me. ( he also sends parcels ) :) -
I used to get the 7.34 from Peckham until April when I left my job. Sometimes it was rammed at Peckham & you had to force your way on, sometimes not... and I always felt sorry for people trying to struggle on at Denmark hill. A few people get off at the Elephant, and practically empties by the time it gets to Farringdon....glad I don't commute this way anymore.
