Burro e salvia becoming moxons new seafood restaurant
spark67 replied to teddyboy23's topic in The Lounge
Oh wow I was talking to someone not long ago funnily enough about the old Moxons restaurant in Clapham. as I drove past the old site.. I remember going there in the late 90s, it was only opened 3 days a week and was quite small. I went there a few times back then :) -
Silvester Rd post collection shambles
spark67 replied to bels123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Waited Two hours this morning to be told that as I received the card yesterday it wouldn't have been processed in time today and that i should come back later or tomorrow... I did suggest they put a notice outside to convey this to people qeueuing still outside, and also put the sign saying its open Christmas eve outside, as it was in the foyer and you wouldn't see it until you've queued for ages, I just got a blank look... I did tell a few people as I walked back along the qeue when I left. I know its a mass of work for the P.O this time of year... but its not as if its unexpected Also I wouldn't have had to pick up today if the royal mail had sent it next day delivery which is what I paid for... 8 days ago.. will be expecting some reimbursment I was lucky in the fact I had a parcel that I received a card for 3 days ago that had been processed, and as an added bonus received a parcel they had received a week ago, which I didn't know existed as They didn't leave a card. -
We've a den on a patch of land behind our garden, my cat runs up there as soon as she hears them.... I'm a bit worried she likes to watch 😶

While I can sympathise with losing a business like this, sometimes they just don't survive as trends change, I have lived here now for 20 years, my partner was born here and so were 4 generations of his family (most of who still live here) I think gentrification fails when rents rise so much that only corporate chains can afford the rents, at the moment we are lucky as business premises that close tend to be taken up by independent retailers, a lot of by local people or people from other areas in our SE corner, the danger is when they too cannot afford to rent and you have the bland high street clone stores moving in. 10-12 years ago myself and the other half used to trek into town or clapham to spend on eating out etc, as at the time even tho nice The lane was a bit dull, now we stay pretty local all the time, and our money goes to local businesses. Sometimes you have to adapt to survive, my family are original from stoke Newington, going back to the mid 1800's .. My Grandfather ran a hardware store on the high street right up until he died 9 years ago, for 45 years, he just kept on top on the ever changing community and its needs.

Thanks for suggestion, all sorted now though thankfully :) -
Anyone missing a "tar" delivery for their drive?
spark67 replied to spark67's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
All sorted, just as I was leaving for work this morning two guys asked me to move my car, I asked why to which they said they needed to get equipment around the back to resurface a balcony and flat roof at my flat ... I pointed out I was on the ground floor and had neither. So one of the guys phoned his builder mate and said he thought he told him to deliver to (my) address... to which after a few expletives to said mate on the phone, I was sheepishly informed they were meant to be at a property the other end of Underhill.. the address no where near similar to mine apart from road name. Hoping its all been shifted by the time I get home :) Thanks for all the suggestions anyway. -
Was out running on the Rye the other day, I am pretty sure it is the people who work at Zippos, by the way they walked out of the caravans and into the ticket office & one into the tent... could be mistaken though 🤔

Anyone missing a "tar" delivery for their drive?
spark67 replied to spark67's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If is Afghan black my reply would be the same as if it was Liquorice. I am Keen to find out who's placed it here still and find its rightful owners... (also keen as who ever left it here can repair any damage to the path too they might have caused) -

Well if its prep for hindmans road I'll be straight on to the council about using our private front garden as a storage area.... if it was liquorice I would have kept quiet and had it for myself. -
Came home from work yesterday on Underhill road to find a big stack of what looks like Tar for a driveway on our front path in our front garden ... A/ we don't have a drive and B/ we didn't order it. I have attached a photo of what it looks like, I don't think its been dumped as its been neatly stacked, and its new and still wrapped in plastic. Would appreciate if anyone can help as its a bit tricky manoeuvring past it in the morning :/

Yes, two Italian guys are opening this one (so I was told), the owner of the old Lucas was quite glad to see the back of it when I met him last year and definitely didn't seem keen to repeat the process.

From What I can gather the Duck egg owner said it was being taken over by some Italian guys, I don't think it's the old Luca's, A friend of mine (and old boss) is friends with the old Luca's owner that was on Lordship lane, I met him a year ago and he definitely had no desire to re open then & wanted out as it was not profitable enough (he is also German, not Italian) He could have changed his mind though.

Was Just wondering the other day if there has been an increase in dog mess lying around or is it me being overly observant as I'm getting out more ;), but have witnessed a few Sh*t and runs, mainly by younger people with dogs on the pavement. My personal experience of cat poop after having 4 at one point is its normaly quite hard and they always buried it in my herbaceous borders (they loved the wood chip) or used the litter try never on the lawn, cats have an instinct to bury & hide their presence, as not to put of any "prey" nearby, even burying their pee. Foxes don't give a Sh*T when feeling the urge, and its nasty and runny, they love to do it on your shoes too if you leave them out by the door, as my neighbour found out.

My partner & I own a property and also (with our two neighbours) the freehold of the building our apartments are in. A couple of weeks ago a couple of Southwark council workers came around and asked to be let into the communal hallway shared by the two flats upstairs, just a small hall, no bigger than your average houses hall way to the front door. Our neighbour didn't know what was going on ! and the two guys proceeded to drill holes in the wall and screw in two Southwark fire safety signs into it. As the freeholders and owners of the management company we were not notified or contacted about this, or informed why they decided to do this. I understand councils are now on the back foot after Grenfell and leaving nothing to chance, but not sure if they can go into non council property and just stick massive signs where they want without asking us first (if it was required we would happily comply but would have at least liked to be notified) Ours is not a huge block, a house converted into three flats, the communal hallway has the stairs which would have been used to go to original bedrooms (used to be just one flat upstairs at first) So can't see us being a huge safety risk... Also a big sign is up saying its illegal for anyone to smoke in the hall... can you tell private owners they can't smoke in their own property ? (no one smokes btw, just interested to know what the law is) Anyhoo (very) long story short, I can't find out who I need to contact about this on the southwark website. If anyone else has had this happen, or know if this is a new policy, I'd be interested to know

Use a Gas BBQ Myself in the summer, mainly due to the fact I'm so Lazy when it comes to cleaning out a charcoal one.... if you don't like burning charcoal best stay away from Burgess park, It looks like fog on some sunny weekends with all the (council built) BBQs going off all over the place :)

update on our cats history with foxes, in the thread above I mentioned we kept our cats in at night now (more for the older ones sake.... the older one has now since passed away at 20, but not before our neighbours upstairs filmed her in the Autumn seeing of a fox aged 19!

I am i suppose relatively new here having lived in the area nearly 20 yrs, I moved to London for work in the 90s, Brixton first, it's all i could afford, that WAS rough (The police asking me if they could take the bumper off my car for forensics as a bullet from a drive by shooting near my flat was lodged in it is one of a few jolly memories) I later moved here because it was quieter, yes the transport links were not brilliant... but found it less stressful than trying to get on a tube at Brixton in the morning or Stockwell) I found it easier to cycle which I did a lot, even when I worked in north London... now I work in Camberwell its the best option all together. But I really don't find it hard to get into town now, and have more options Transport wise with the event of the "ginger line" Getting to my friends in wapping used to be a right trek, now it's door to door. Sadly having better links living near a tube station doesn't make live easier tbh, I have travelled from friends in the rush hour from Clapham and found it hellish, with those platforms with track either side and the crush of people pushing you to the edge, had to let two trains go before I could get on. I have friends who live right by the Northern line in east Finchley... they said its not always great, as its pretty much shut most weekends for works (we've had to drive a few times as it was quicker when visiting them. My partner was born & raised here (his family have been here for 4 generations) as are most of our now mutual friends.. he says it was never rough, just bit dull and quiet.

Vets definitely closing on the Rye, Spoke to one of the founders and they have to move as the building is being demolished... we have already started using the Crofton park one, easy to park by, and better for us travel wise from where we live then going to Lordship lane. I think it will be a great addition to the lane though, especially if it stills sells pet food and products like the PR one.

I have an old friend who's family were JW, he was born into it. He he decided it wasn't for him when he was older, and the church forbade any of his family or friends to talk to him, they'd cross the road if they saw him in the street...He was helped by a foundation called the "witness rehabilitation program" ( or something like that ) Its been a long road for him but he has made a new life and is happy, but what s sh*tty way for an organisation to treat people, they pretty much get short shrift when they knock on my door, I told one I wasn't interested and mentioned & about my friend, and he backed away down my path like i had a grenade in my hand With regards to "knocking a minority" , they are pretty good at that themselves. I was at Brighton pride a few years ago, and they were harassing people on the march, they also chose to have seminar there on the same day denouncing all LGBT people Just a quick edit to say the above happened not that long ago, so when some say the church has changed I'm pretty scepticl

Tries to get into meat liquor last night to celebrate getting a new job, it was packed, but asked if there was a table for two, there were some empty seats by the window, someone said they were reserved, & got the girl in charge of the seating to see us, we asked again & mentioned its good you can reserve, to which we said (with a bit of attitude) they don't... all very strange, so we popped to try Xoco which was a bit empty, strange decor but lovely food and staff at a very reasonable price... it soon started filling after we arrived, give it a go before you write it off :)
-
I've bought a couple of things from here, always found the staff pleasant, and happy with the price i've paid, i've also taken a few of my unwanted things in too, and received a statement telling me how much they sold them for (?80 in my case) Personally i've not felt there being anything dodgy going :)

I don't mind the coop on LL Though i do find its prices on the high side, so only pop in if I need something and can't be bothered to pop to Sainsbury's... tho I loathe the one on forest hills rd, only stop in there if i need to get something on the way home from work as its convenient, the queues and narrow aisles ! I doubt very much if I'll pop into M&S as I don't really like their stuff tbh & will still use the coop on the lane if i need anything whilst there.
