  1. The bee drinking tea is not really to my taste either - but I love that ED has street art like this. So would rather see it stay than painted over. My favorite is the Victorian looking boxing men on the wall opposite the EDT - love that!
  2. There's a new upmarket rug shop opening in an old bank building on peckham rye. Cavalcanti. Spotted the sign had gone up when I went past on the bus on Saturday. Looks nice! http://www.cavalcanti.co.uk
  3. I don't mind children being in the pub as long as they are well behaved and not shreiking or being generally annoying. (which often they are). If children are being annoying in the pub, unfortunately it is usually the parents that are to blame! Just keep your children quiet and entertained if you want to take them to the pub. I am afraid I do not find your children as endearing as you do! :)

They obviously think there is a business case to open in this location, but it seems like a strange location up an 'up market' kind of place with hardly any passing footfall and in a residential area, not very close to either of the train stations etc. I go past on the bus some evenings, and it does look better than the boarded up old pub used to look. I guess they are hoping it will be a destination in its own right.
  5. Posted by JohnL Today, 08:23AM Just noted on Southwark News. Elephant and Castle pub now protected - no Foxtons then !!! Thomas a Becket also protected and sale postponed. [www.southwarknews.co.uk] ------------------------------------------------------- So the Elephant & Castle pub was closed down after someone was stabbed in the head with a pen? I see now why they want to protect the pub... a real community asset there! It's not even in a nice building. I think that whole shopping centre needs buldozing if you ask me. The Thomas A Beckett pub is a lovely building, I can see why they would campaign to save it.
  6. I fully agree - I think all to often there can be an element of nimby-ism with objections to new developments. That said, we are all custodians of our local areas and environments, and it is important to get involved in the planning process where we can. But I agree - there really is a housing crisis, especially in London. I think it is a good thing if new flats can be built, and I'm not adverse to going up a few storeys here and there. On the high street for example, taller buildings would be totally fine. We really do need to fit more houses in where we can! (And we also need to stop selling them off-plan to oversees investors!!! But that's another debate altogether... )
  7. Well done! How scary. I wouldn't want to live above a shop for this reason....
  8. I'm a bit confused why it is a bad thing that they would build flats above the shop? More homes would surely be a better use of space than offices?
  9. That's awful!! Total scum bags. This really annoys me.
  10. I don't see why everyone gets their knickers in such a twist about Foxtons. Oh the outrage, an estate agent!! Let's brick the windows! It's quite funny really.
  11. Never ever went in the Cherry Tree... EDT is my place of choice! why was it so bad?
  12. I grew up in derbyshire and we had a power cut for about a week one winter in the early 90's when snow brought the lines down! 5mins last night was nothing! ;)
  13. You often see rats swimming in the duck pond in dulwich park!
  14. Like a library, but 'stuff' instead of books?
  15. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a local interior designer at the moment. Has anyone else used anyone good recently that they would recommend? I would say I'm high street budget, and just want help pulling a bedroom together. It hink it will save me money in the long run. I have a habit of buying bits and then changing my mind and it all gets rather stressful! Any recommendations happily received!
  16. This thread is nearly 10 years old!
  17. John Lewis Natural collection pocket sprung 4000. Best. Mattress. Ever.
  18. I really need to go and have a walk round there, I've never been. I always go to Dulwich Park out of habit. It sounds lovely!
  19. M&S would be better than Waitrose. But if we had a Waitrose, would we be able to order John Lewis 'click and collect' orders to it? If so, I would like both!!! I would be sad to see Iceland go however, it is useful for frozen fish and picking up cheap veg late on a Sunday afternoon if Coop is closed. But I would much rather have an M&S.
  20. He might just be a very chatty cat. If someone has de-matted his fur then I'd be surprised if he was a stray or neglected - it's not an easy job! If he lets you, give him a stroke and check he's not feeling too thin. Unless the cat looks unwell (bad eyes / problems with mouth or paws etc) or looking starved there is probably nothing to worry about. But there is nothing wrong with giving him a bit of attention and a stroke. Don't feed him though, because his owners won't be able to keep track of how much he's eating and he could get fat. And as poster above suggested, if you are still concerned I would give the Celia Hammond Trust or Cats Protection League a call for some advice. Good luck!
  21. Hooray I'm so excited about this! So what if they have over run on the building work - at the end of the day we'll have a great new addition to East Dulwich, and a cinema within walking distance from home will be amazing.
  22. Has anyone given Pedlar a try? It's the new place next to the southern end of Peckham rye.
  23. And interestingly here you can see inside the cottages when they were last up for sale. I don't see how it can be justified to demolish these I really don't! http://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/detail.html?country=england&locationIdentifier=STREET%5E518353&searchLocation=Railway+Rise&referrer=landingPage
  24. According to this, it's the same property developer that did the garden centre. They have bought up the cottages and the road with a view to develop into shops and flats: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/designation_of_railway_rise_se22
  25. It's hardly exciting news, Peckham has been talked about in the media as the next up and coming area for yonks! I for one would be pleased to see rye lane smarten up a bit. And for anyone who thinks that is bad, well it used to be called the golden mile and was big shopping destination! Take the lane back to it's roots I say!
