Dulwich Village, close to the roundabout at College Road and Gallery Road. For petes sake, when are those roadworks going to be finished? The temporary lights there are not only confusing but are also a real nuisance. The past few days I haven't even seen any sign of work happening- no workmen, no equipment, nothing. Just tailback of traffic and frustrated motorists, including myself. From what I can see, they are putting a road calming humps on approach to the roundabout but why it's taking over 2 weeks to complete is beyond me. And of course with both the school runs and rush hour traffic, it's a shambles. Nicholas Nicholas Driving Academy, SE22

Argos, McDonalds, and most importantly a decent restaurant for special ocassions.

Whistable and Broadstairs are my favourites. In a car head towards A2/M2 its quite well signed. Whistable about 75min from ED, traffic permiting, nice fish restaurant there. Broadstairs about 20min further, nice beach and fab ice cream parlur on the front. On the way back you can stop off at Bluwater for a little shopping. Do you have a Sat Nav? Good luck.

Interesting comments. Approaching from the traffic lights and turning right into Carlton Ave I have witnessed many drivers who seem to think they don't have to give way to oncoming trafic, because the road is so wide they think it's a continuetion of the road they are in. Regarding the tyre tracks over the pavement area is a concern, there's no kerb protection for pedestrians (bearing in mind it's opossite to two schools). On the plus side the layout should stop parking on the corners, which would help observation. Time will tell if it's an improvement. I am all for improving road safety, but I'm not so sure that this layout will help.

All the best to you. Well said Administrator.

Has anyone noticed the ridiculous new layout opposite Alleyn's school? Not only were we all inconvenienced by the road being closed for several weeks but the layout is really dangerous, they've raised the road slightly but alas there's no protection for the pavement. As a driving instructor, I use that road alot, alot of drivers just drive over the curb unaware that it is not part of the road. It's dangerous from all angles and in my opinion a complete waste of money as it serves no purpose and there's very little protection for pedestrians and of course, the school children. Cycling on pavement (Dulwich College)
Nicholas replied to Zebedee Tring's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi, you sound like a sensible hard working mum of three. And you give your kids the right advice. I agree they would be lorry fodder. I don't see anything wrong with responsible kids riding on the pavements, lets face it some roads and drivers are leathal. -

trinity Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Agreed - truely dreadful incident and extremely > rare I agree there are loads of drivers on mobiles flouting the law daily with no regards for anyone. On the subject of irresponsible bad cyclist, I think a theory type test mainly covering the Highway code would be a good idea. Im not a cyclist myself, but as a driver I have respect for all law abiding road users, pavements included. Being injured by a cyclist is still pretty rare,as far as im aware? -

As I said in an earlier post, I don't have a problem with kids riding on the pavements, as long as they show respect for pedestrians and dismount when necessary. How many times do you see a cyclist flouting the law,not stopping at red traffic lights, riding down oneway streets the wrong way the list goes on don't get me wrong there are some law abiding cyclists out there, unfortunatley I don't see that many. Maybe we need some compulsory training and test, just a thought. -

I dont have a problem if its children riding on the pavements, some of our roads and drivers are leathal. Nevertheless pavements are for pedestrians, so cyclists should dismount were necessary, and respect that. -
Warning bendy bus crash on Etherow St
Nicholas replied to wonderwoman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think some of you are being a bit harsh about bendys. Im not a great fan mainly because of our very narrow streets, and some twats who park on or near corners. Have a thought for the disabled and the elderly there a much safer option. Cant wait for the new Aston Martin design double deckers. -
No that was Gordons Garage (Ford) The one im talking about was just up the road were the new Tescos Express is. Take it from me it was every schoolboys dream Etypes Lambos etc 73/74 I was a teenager with to much testosterone,I lived for girls and fast cars.

Melbourne Cycles, he was a lovely guy and great service. Does anyone remember a small indoor sports car showroom opposite the Bishop/Foresters and Kebab shop. Im in the late 60s 70s era. Back in those days there was another fantastic Sports car centre they sold used Etypes and Lamburgini, those days the area may not have been so trendy, but wow we had some motors. It was were the new Tesco Express is. I think it used to be a Gulf petrol station, does that ring any bells?

Hi guys, not that old, but can anyone remember Melbourne cycles back in the 60/70s it was on the corner which is now William Rose the butchers. Also during that period there was a used spots car showroom opposite the the old sony shop.As a young lad I used to love drooling over the Lotus Elan and the Etypes in the showroom every school boys dream.

Ed is a great place to live work play. If most of the shops don't represent the locals as was said. Thats what I Mean when I said cloned and pretentious. Another point how can these so called gift shops survive, especially in this climite. If the good people of Dul want these quant shops they need to put there internet shopping away, and get shopping local and expect to pay higher prices. Im all for local support.
