In my opinon if a driver/rider is traveling at excessive speed in most occasions its there fault and should pay the consequences, trouble is trying to prove it and often or not they get away with it and thats wrong. The way its going I can see traffic calming humps cameras etc on most roads. Although im not a lover of humps,if it stops idiots like this then its worth it.Money is the problem big cut backs so don't hold your breath. Its just sheer luck that there hasn't been a fatel.

According to recent tv adds,Waitrose is no more expensive than Tesco for named brands. That's food for thought! To be honest Iceland always seems half empty and I woudn't be a bit surprised if it does close down. Lets face it most people in ED would like to see the back of shops like that. Its just plain snobbery.

Hi, Im a local driving instructor and Im sure there has been at least five incidents in a year. I've seen at least three in the last six months. I don't think that Barry road is any worse than a lot of roads of its kind, but how many roads are nearly a mile long dead straight. It all boils down to a recipe for a disaster. Excessive speeds, dangerous overtaking, and above all bad driving particulary near the junctions. Something urgent needs to be done to slow these idiots down before there is a fatal incident (or has there been one in the past?). I hope there were no pedestrians near the railings.

Not his again Waitrose M&S what a bloody bore. Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

A few weeks ago we were talking about this junction on this forum. It needs painted stop lines and sign urgently. As I said on a previous post some idiots ues it as a race track and 60mph plus is no exaggeration. At least two speed cameras would help but with all the government cut backs can't see it happening. This all results to bad driving speeding and wet conditions. The black beamer must have hit the railings at some speed judging by the demage. Was there any other vehicles involved and was anyone injured?

Dog excrement is a real serious problem, although it might be rare I've heard of some children being blinded. Most dog owners, I imagine, are OK but the ones who don't give a sh*t (pun intended)penalties should be harsh. I must confess I've noticed quite a lot of it near Piermont Green. unfortunately, who enforces the law? It isn't easy to prove, because dog owners who let their dogs do it are probably not going to take kindly to a citizens arrest. An on-the-spot, heavy fine would be great.

I'm reading some of these "interesting" comments. Yes, the coaches are annoying, and unfortunately it's not just during school times, as often the coaches are there mornings, early afternoons and evenings. We have to be careful because the kids have to go out on day trips. But what annoys me more is some of the coaches look like there on their last legs, and not to mention the amount of crap that comes out of their exhausts as they leave them running. For such a posh school, surely they can afford to hire some decent up-to-date coaches that don't pollute as much. We all know during term times, particularly around Dulwich, most of the schools have loads of coaches.

Dano I think you've done the right thing. A lot of people would have kept the money, as its very difficult to trace. If no ones claimed it, then charity is the best cause. It is very difficult when your in this position because you want to do the right thing but theres not a lot you can do.

Dog excrement is very dangerious and the penalties for those who cause it should be very harsh. All of us with children see this as a very serious problem. -
Surely most market sellers are there to be bartered with if they ask for ?55, just knock the price down, its part of the fun you have nothing to loose, SE22 means nothing its not Mayfair or Chelsea. If you dont ask you dont get!

We all know that Dulwich would give their eye teeth for a Waitrose or a M&S but would the local independant food shops want it? Plus its just rumours that keep appearing I quote. The old Police station was rumoured too.

dangerous junction of barry road and underhill rd
Nicholas replied to nanki1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If only all speed limits could be obeyed particularly in residential and built up areas. This is what I tell all my pupils.Remember, driving is a team game where everybody is responsible for each other's safety on the road. I would like to see a retest every 10years for all road users. As I said previously. We have one of the world's best road safety records. Nicholas Driving Academy SE22 -

Of course I can't be 100% accurate but I have a pretty good idea of speed. To be totally accurate we would need the police to have regular speed checks and I think you will find that 60mph is not exaggerated.I think some of the road markings around the area ara appalling particullary Underhill Rd onto Barry Rd urgently needs a stop line and sign. Anyway I have been teaching most of the day,im pleased to say that Barry Rd and drivers in general have been well behaved and patient to me and my pupils. Don't you think it's much calmer and safer without the school runs? -

If the council could stop all vehicles parking close to all junctions that would be a start,at least you would have much better vision, consequently much safer. In regards to the speeding motorists although im not a great lover of speed humps or speed cameras but if they save lives im all for it. Moneys tight it aint gonna happen! -

I would not trust the mirror, plus those type of things are usually used on country lanes blind bends etc. The only safe way to emerge into Barry Rd and others like it is what I teach my pupils, look right left and right again and edge out if necessary.Other thing is to stop vehicles parking close to all junctions that would help the observation issues. The real problem is bad driving and drivers flouting the law on a daily basis. I don't wish to be unpopular, Maybe a retest for all every ten years. That's another subject. -

DJKQ I can't physically prove it and obviously I don't have speed gun in my brain ha ha, but take it from a very experienced professional driving Instructor (ADI) In my oppinion I would say that some drivers have exceeded 60mph along Barry Rd, I'm surprised you find it hard believe? So many cars these days can reach 60mph in less than 10seconds,it feels like your doing 40mph.You could always purchase a speed gun, stand there for a couple of days im sure someone would do at least 60mph. Remember motorbikes bomb down there too. The road is long and straight, and at times not much traffic,so there's a recipe for a possible disaster. At times there are usually lots of buses which should slow a lot of the traffic down. But the 12 is so long in length and travels quite slowly with frequent stops that why so many bad drivers with little patience try to overtake them with no regard for oncoming traffic and junctions etc so consequently so damm dangerous and thats a major problem.Barry Rd is probably no more dangerous than other roads of its kind. (IT'S JUST BAD DRIVING IS THE REAL PROBLEM) -

Take it from me 60mph plus is no exaggeration, especially late at night. I know in these times of government cuts there's no chance of speed cameras. Barry Rd is dead straight and almost a mile long, perfect for the boy racers, and motorists who flout the law on a daily basis.Speed cameras would stop morons who use roads like this as race tracks. One very important thing is missing when approaching from Underhill Rd,and that is a painted line and stop sign. I can't believe the council has left it so long, it's a very dangerous junction. I agree, Barry Rd is treated like a race track at times, definately two speed cameras need to be errected urgently. Im a local driving instructor, and that road scares me. But most dangerous is just trying to emerge from the side roads onto Barry rd. Not only the volume and a speed of traffic as somebody rightly said, you get large vans, cars etc. that park close to the junction and the only way to get out is to edge your vehicle forward just to get a clear view. When you get lunetics coming at you at 60mph plus, you've got no chance. Pedestrians and cyclists are at serious risk. -
Don't you mean snakes on a plane, don't think iv'e heard of snakes in a gym! Bizarre

Vandalism of new playground at goose green
Nicholas replied to chuck's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Although I didn't witness the incident (i'm only going on what i've read), "Dregs of society" is a little harsh. But as Isaid previously, if they've got a sharp object, which could be a knife. I don't mean to sound dated but we often carved our names, logos and girls we liked into the wood. In this world of knife culture, I suppose it's hard to believe that they were just young kids harmlessly carving their names into the wood. On a positive note, I'm glad to have the apparatus opening very soon. -

Come on guys, stop making steve feel like an outcast. Vandalism is a real problem for all of us.If there chipping away at the wood with a sharp object that's serious.Even worse they could demage the climbing ropes which could cause a nasty injury to our little ones. Steve and Chuck are right. Playground should have been finished months ago, what are they playing at! -
I agree, he's about a metre from the kerb, on a double yellow line, on a bend. And did anyone else notice the huge dent in the left front bumper. Maybe someone didn't like getting a ticket and took it out on the car? Or maybe this is why he parks so far away from the kerb, because he keeps hitting things? Nicholas Driving Academy SE22
