There was and I think there still is a stigma attached to tattoos. They used to be associated with the working and criminal classes. Like it or not people still judge you for having tattoos and it could effect your job prospects. I think in Dulwich you would attract an older clientele. I know a few people who have their first tattoos at 50. Pedro you need a website and hope you're not winding us up. Keep an eye out for you while I'm up and down teaching learner drivers.

As a local driving instructor, I cover most of the streets and roads within the area while out giving lessons. The speed humps on Dunstan's Road are, without a doubt, the worst in the area (although Court Lane and Crystal Palace Road are also fairly dodgy). The main issues with the Dunstan's Road speed humps is that they are inconsistant and deceptive. Some look pretty tame while others look mountainous. It's almost impossible to go over 15mph without causing some sort of damage to your car. Obviously, i'm all for traffic calming but there needs to be some consistancy. You should be able to do 15-20mph without causing substantial damage to your car or causing disturbances to the residents. I would never drive my Ferrari down there!

Open the parlour your now well known and on the map. Back in the old days tattoos were mainly hard nuts and criminals, not many professionals had them apart from army and some police officers. Lets face it, now its a differant ball game its trendy artistic and can be a work of art. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but live and let live who cares its your skins. If you can afford a shop in ED,go for it. I think it would be a success.

Thanks all some good points.

Are we gonna see an influx of yummy mummys with bugaboo's, tattooed up with " I love East Dulwich", not like they used to be eg. love and hate and mum and dad, and hearts with arrows through them. They were the good old days. I wonder if they will come back in fashion?

The Dunstans Road speed humps must be some of the biggest in the area. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for traffic calming but these are ridiculous. They can't do any good for the foundations as well as the vehicles that go over them. It must be terrible living on that road, you must get vibrations and noise from the traffic. I just wonder how do the council regulate the height of these? Some speed humps aren't that bad. Can someone please tell me, is there a legal limit for the height of these, because even doing 15mph you can hear the banging of cars.

I think you would do quite well in this kind of area. Back in the old days, tattoo shops were a little scary and were only for "hard" people, including the ladies. But now its a different ballgame. Its artistic and trendy to have tattoos now. When I was 18, I had my first tattoo, and then 6 months later I had another one! And when England won the Ashes a few years ago against the Aussies I was so shocked and happy that I had the Three Lions tattooed on my leg! The only thing that worries me is that i might be tempted to do the other leg too, as England won the Ashes again! I think it will do OK.

Back to talking about the sub station, reading a lot of the posts most people seem to have positive feedbacks and seem to like it. Mind you, it's not every ones cup of tea, but i must confess it has grown on me (excuse the pun). As previously said, my business (Nicholas Driving Academy)is directly opposite. The sub station itself is pig ugly but the mural has improved its appearance immensely. I just hope now that the council will sort the pavements out. The bollards down by the shops, in my opinion, are ugly and there are far too many of them, although it would be nice to have them painted to match the sub station. I tend to worry that they may prove to be distraction for some drivers. I have heard that the council is intending upon removing the bollards, to allow for parking on the pavement, which I have mixed views about. The artist who painted the mural is called Morganic and has painted the bins to fit the theme, including Learner plates, as you can see in the attached picture. I think this is quite fun and unique.

messageRe: Painted bollards on Forest Hill road Posted by: dbboy July 13, 01:48PM They look hideous as does the "old" EDF sub station by the bus stop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hideous" in your opinion, but still a massive improvement as my business (Nichols Driving Academy) is directly opposite it. Personally, i'm not keen on the painted bollards but I think the pavements around the sub station could do with a smartening up. The only thing i'm worried about is graffitti. It would be a shame for all that time and effort to be wasted. The bins along the sub station are being painted too, which is a nice touch. I just wish that some people wouldn't dump their rubbish there. But hands up to the council, at least there trying.

Yet Another Crash on Barry Road - Underhill Road Junction
Nicholas replied to trentk69's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Speed has a big part of it. Yes, judgement from the emerging vehicle is crucial. But if the vehicles coming down Barry rd are exceeding the speed limit it makes it much harder to judge and consequently more likely to collide and do more damage. Of course emerging drivers need to observe carefully. If drivers would obey the speed limits we would have far less serious incidents. (Emerging from junctions is like crossing the road, how often do you get run over) -

We don't have a speed camera in our brains and we can't be 100% accurate but I know at times some idoits drive along this road at excessive speeds and the law of averages say that when you get police speed checks most drivers behave themself and usually its the driver doing 38mph that gets it. In my opinion we need two speed cameras sited in the two most dangerous spots. Speeding and attitude is the real problem and ther'es not much we can do about that. -

Sacasam not intended. Serious issue yes. I agree face to face action is needed. Well done and good luck with the meetings. I have written a letter weather it does any good or not. Anyone concerned about road safety should get involved. -

James Barber seems to be clued up and hope he's got some good contacts. He said he would look into this. Re: doing something,we should all make a lot of noise in the right places. (No money cut backs is a problem) You have made lots of posts and hope you intend to do something as I remember don't you live on this road? I intend to write to Southwark council, this is an accident black spot. -

I have written about this junction three times in the last three months and it was only about two weeks ago we had a nasty collision and thankfully no one was seriously hurt.Something needs to be done urgently with these statistics its only a matter of time before we have a fatality haven forbid. It was the exact spot as the last crash the railings and traffic light compleatly demolished. The railings were not repaired since the last incident. I wounder if the bus was speeding or the car just pulled out or a bit of both? -
The Minkey. Good on you.

Hi,many years ago i played div 1&2 of the Ravenborne league i was at a good standard (Long time ago)I suffer a bad back these days not as sharp as i like to be. I play at Dul college tues the standards okay, but i would like a bit more of a game. How would Sat suit me? Would you mind if i come along next week?

I think this thread has gone as far as it can go.Most of us are very concerned about the speed of some vehicles along this road including me. James Barber above is on the ball and seems to know what he is talking about. The best thing we could do is speak to the local MP write to the council, make as much noise as possible and you never know. The least they can do is to paint some decent stop/give way lines at the junction of Underhill that would be a start. Good luck.

Theres a Waitrose in Mottingham Dartford and Biggin Hill and those areas are far from up market. All this fuss Waitrose is just a nice place to shop and not much more expensive then say Morrisons. I'm surprised that ED hasn't got one. After all most of like John Lewis.
-
As I said before im not a great lover of speed humps on a road like this.I think with at least three nasty colisions in three months we have a problem. And its mainly speed related. I would like to see two speed cameras and some raised areas near the junctions. But all this will cost ???? which is not available in this current climate and weather they would prioritise Barry rd, there are probably much worse roads that are more dangerous and have had fatalities. This is my motto: Driving is a team game where everybody is responsible for each others safety on the road.
-
If you would have noticed it was said the BMW driver thretened the bus driver at the top of the road,so consequently traffic calming would have slowed him down because he was speeding to get away from the incident which happened halfway down Barry rd. This a serious thread about speed road safety issues which need to addressed.

The Minkey. I'm old school ED,I don't particularly like Iceland and don't shop there and it is a bit ugly. Every time I have passed it seems half empty and I can't imagine it lasting too long in my opinion. The majority of the clientele in ED would be more suited to a Waitrose/M&S and thats a fact. Open your eyes. Im not sure if the local food stores would be too happy. (The Person who started this thread hope your having a laugh) Most people in ED would love a Waitrose including me and i'm no snob!
