online school application forms... for dummies
melbourne groover replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Straight forward and you can edit and go back and check etc.... I was slightly paranoid that I would forget my youngest's application or stuff it up so was good to be able to check! -
school tights that don't fall down?
melbourne groover replied to sunbob's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I like Gap tights currently, nice thickness and long enough in the leg for my tall daughter (harder than you might think to achieve...) I have tried: H&M - I like these but some have seams across the top of the toes which has been deemed unacceptable. M&s - too short in the leg now but otherwise fine Sainsburys - shrink but ok if you buy an enormous size to allow for this Gap - latest try, ok so far... Good luck! -
Please can I have the cardboard box! I have posted this in the wanted section but thought the chances of the parents room having bought ikea wardrobes might be quite high... ( could be wrong about this but worth a shot) I find these boxes brilliant for packaging up my paintings but have exhausted our supply! I am obviously happy to pick up! Thanks very much, Amy

Should Melbourne Grove be 20mph?
melbourne groover replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would like to see a 20 mph limit. I have seen a load of near misses and do a double take at some of the speeds and stops. Not sure if the lower limit would fix this but perhaps worth a try? Would tie in with Chesterfield etc also. -
We got an M and S one in brilliant condition off Gumtree.

Plantation shutters for family home
melbourne groover replied to Anna27's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I got a quote from the guy in Fabric. I had some curtain rails fitted and got the quote at the same time, he is working with someone who fits them. Really reasonable pricing I thought at the time but stupidly didn't write it down and the school hols have driven from my mind... -
We used Staron (Samsung version of corian but much cheaper) a few years ago, with white gloss cabinets. Both have held up really well. We used Mr Worktops in Camberwell.

Tell me about dry shampoo...
melbourne groover replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Definitely look into the Brazilian blowdry it is great, I think you just have to go for the formaldehyde free one but am def no expert.... I have had this and found it great. I am also a big fan of dry shampoo, just use sparingly when looking a bit on the edge of greasy! I also have curly/wavy hair that veers towards frizz but have found a good cut for curly-ness and then mousse whilst damp stops the frizz without crunchy-ness. The Paul Mitchell one is the best I have found. I then just blowdry my fringe. It has been a revelation in the mornings not having to do the 20 mins blowdrying (hence my interest in dry shampoo...) I also like a cream from John Freida. If you do want it straight though go for the Brazilian blowdry when safe! Good luck. -
Raising 'high energy' children
melbourne groover replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
You are definitely not alone...;-) -
I find they do like to play up there so flexible play space and maybe a table height surface, whether that is the top of some drawers or a specific play table, as it does drive me slightly batty getting the call to get stuff up and down constantly! We were at ikea recently and I think their storage drawers and cupboards combos look good where you can combine high and low storage and get a play space. Cheap, effective, reliable and not devastating if you need to change it in a few years... Good luck! And let me know if you want some affordable hand painted art for the walls.... www.facebook.com/amydevlinart

How much for a cup of coffee?
melbourne groover replied to Dog-Kennel-Hill A.P's topic in The Family Room Discussion
After a great morning at the playground have just done this. Thanks! -
Hi all, I am just starting a small business (from home) of affordable art for kids/ families, hand painted canvases that will appeal to kids for hopefully longer than the favourite cartoon etc. I am feeling my way through the start up, so... Have set up a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/amydevlinart)and am doing a stall at the Early Childhood Show at the Goose Green Centre on Saturday. I wondered if people out there had some top tips of things that worked well for them when starting out. All suggestions/feedback gratefully received! Thanks, Amy

Shorts to go under skirts - where to buy?
melbourne groover replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
M and S have good shorts style pants, they are the seamless ones. They do packs of 3 but not sure what size they start at. -
I second a cracker in bed before you get up and try travel bands. Those Preggy pop sweets were good also (although glucose sweets would probably do the same job). Good luck, is v grim especially cooking your toddlers food... Blerghh my daughter ate a lot of kids ready meals at this point ;-)

Toy suggestions for a nearly 4 year old?
melbourne groover replied to Ole's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Playmobile, that stuff is great. Loads of it (not all) can go in the bath or paddling pool and the bits all mix in together to form even better creations. Or Lego.... -

We used Staron which is Samsungs version of corian, 5 years on I am really happy with it still. We had white work tops and white high gloss from Howdens. Both holding up really well, I was slightly apprehensive re a white kitchen/kids combo but has done really well. Easy to see any marks and just wipe up ( am def no domestic goddess...)
